A bet is a debt of honor...

Yesterday is over...

Well by the time you read this it will be...thankfully...it was not a great day personally...but we have moved on and left the wreckage of February 5th, 2008 in the ditch where it belongs...

And the last humdinger of the day was the tornado sirens blaring as a warning and the live shots of tornadoes within 5 miles of our home...and the mall about two miles away sustaining severe damage with injuries...

So, if we did not make it to your blog yesterday, we apologize...our mood was just too dark...

On Tuesday, the fans of the NY Giants gathered along the "Canyon Of Heroes" in Manhattan...From Battery Park, up Broadway to City Hall...the traditional route for parades in NYC...the route that gave the term 'ticker-tape parade' it's name...In the 30's and 40's and 50's and 60's the financial houses which had their offices on that route would shred the 'ticker-tape' and throw it out the window as the parades passed...

What is 'Ticker-tape'? Well...The origin of the term ticker tape came from the sound made by the machine as it printed, and tape simply refers to the machines using a paper tape printout as a rolling display of stock prices. In 1867, Edward A. Calahan of the American Telegraph Company invented the first stock telegraph printing device. Early versions of stock tickers provided the first mechanical means of conveying stock prices ("quotes"), over a long distance over telegraph wiring

A few arrests were made for disorderly conduct, but the wonderful thing is there apparently there were no cars burned, no stores broken into, no one sent to the hospital which seems to be the norm in other cities when their teams win Championships.

A couple of videos of the celebration...

Going to be more involved today at your blogs, and tomorrow here on The Couch...

This one is for us...something to help sooth us...it always does...

21 Of Your Sparks

  1. I've been glued to CNN all day and the minute I saw the tornado coverage there in Memphis, I was worried... hope all is well and the storms leave your area.

  2. So far so good ... TY dear... the local stations have not had one minute of Super Tuesday all night....I was able to get on for Doc...and did some 'readings'

  3. I saw those on CNN and thought about you, Bond. Hope the sirens and the storms leave you in peace tonight =)

  4. Travis Cody Says:
  5. Glad to hear the storms passed you by.

Nice touch with the origin of ticker tape. And congrats once again on the Big Blue.

  6. Kb Says:
  7. Was thinking about you last night after the news. I have family in Memphis and have to check in with them too. So glad you are safe! I grew up in North Texas and remember a tornado touching down in our back yard. Scary!

Loved your 'readings' -- Nancy is a lucky gal! Sending you happy thoughts for a better day! XO

  8. Twyla Says:
  9. A tornado??? Holy crap. That was one of my biggest fears as a kid..and what made it worse, was that we didn't have a cellar or basement to hide in. Of course, we don't get tornadoes here...so I worried for nothing.
Glad to know that you are safe and that your horrible day is over.

  10. Julie Says:
  11. Stay safe my friend! We've been in a flood watch/warning since yesterday and I guess more storms to come today. At least we live on a hill.

  12. Schmoop Says:
  13. Glad to hear that you made it through, and I hope Dixie did as well. Today will be better I am sure. Cheers!!

  14. RW Says:
  15. Yes glad your all right! Helluva parade! I couldn't hear but that last 5 minutes of the show last night I got the sound on my laptop but not my desktop which is weird but thats what I'll do next time.

  16. Thank God you're safe. I was worried about you.

The parade views look marvelous. Last year, the crowds in Indy stood in sub-zero temps to greet the Colts; looks like the NY crowds didn't have to endure that.

    Revel in it, my friend.

  17. coming over to see if you are okay, now i am worried about lois... glad you are okay though!

    smiles, bee
