Dona Nobis Pacem - 1st Anniversary

WELCOME TO THE FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF
DONA NOBIS PACEM

(Give Us Peace)

This is something we whipped up for our friend Mimi
yesterday to put a smile on her face.

Twas the night before
Peace Globes
and all around the earth
people were busy
designing Peace Globes with mirth...

They had heard of a marble
all big and blue
they heard the story of Papa
and all that he knew

Mimi was reciting
the story with glee
how Papa would teach her
and she would make the world see

Peace is a hope
a solemn wish and a dream
some think it is untouchable
like a single marble trying to stop a stream

But Papa and Mimi
came together as one
and spread the word throughout our world
that peace can be won

Add your Peace Globe to the others
pile them up wide and high and complete the dream
If we all do so together
We can make a statement - even stop the stream

So tomorrow listen closely
if you can drown out the clatter
you might just hear Papa speak
and that is all that will matter

You will hear his voice clearly
and together with might
we can all shout to the world
Peace Globes for all
and to all a PEACEFUL NIGHT!
2007VEM

She has been working around the clock the past few weeks and we know she is exhausted.

Mimi, my friend, it is all worth it...Papa is so very proud!

Why are we posting today? Well, one simple word....PEACE.

There is so much hatred in the world and we find it so hard to comprehend. When a child comes into the world, they do not know the emotions hate or love. They must be taught these.

Yes, there is the instinctive love a baby has for it's mother and father, but love to be felt toward others is an acquired emotion.

So is the emotion hate. This emotion is learned in the home. Watching parents and siblings and how they react to each other and to the outside world. Sitting at the dinner table at night, listening to adults talk about their hatred of someone who they work with, someone who cut them off on the road that day, someone who treated them poorly...

BUT especially, the hate that is spewed about the people who are a different nationality, or ethnicity or race or religion. This is the hatred we deal with that causes young men and women from a multitude of countries to have to pick up weapons and fight each other.

As we were brought up in a Roman Catholic household, we were taught that the Bible teaches to 'love thy neighbor' and that god forgives those who sin. Forgiveness and love are basic tenets within the Bible.

This is also true of the Tanakh, the Jewish Bible which is composed of the Torah, the Nevi'im and the Ketuvim.

This is also true of the Qur'an (Koran), the holy book for Muslims. The Qur'an's teachings on matters of war and peace have become topics of heated discussion in recent years.

This misinterpretation tends to be on both sides, both Muslim and non-Muslim alike. Some critics allege that some verses of the Qur'an in their historical and literary context sanction military action against unbelievers as a whole both during the lifetime of Muhammad and after.

In response to this criticism, some Muslims argue that such verses of the Qur'an are taken out of context, and claim that when the verses are read in context it clearly appears that the Qur'an prohibits aggression, and allows fighting only in self defense.

Here within our borders, the great USA, there is still too much hatred.

Between the different nationalities...

Between the different races...

So, what it comes down to is you and me. Each of us taking the responsibility to talk to our children and not spew hatred. We can be only two generations away from PEACE if it began today.

If those around the world all made a vow to teach the children of today that love and acceptance were the only acceptable form of living their lives.

We always stressed in our home that everyone was the same...no one was different from us...

Treat everyone the way you would like to be treated...

Ah...The GREAT GOLDEN RULE....

Do Unto Others As You Would Want Them To Do Unto You

Learned it as a kid...and in the end it seems to come back to that simple statement...

Come on baby take a ride with me
Im up from Indiana down to Tennessee
Everything is cool as can be in a peaceful world

People know this world is a wreck
Were sick and tired of being politically correct
I see through it now but I didn't at first
The hypocrites made it worse and worse
Lookin down their noses at what people say
These are just words and words are okay
Its what you do and not what you say
If you're not part of the future then get out of the way

Come on baby take a ride with me
I'm up from Indiana down to Tennessee
Everything is cool as can be in a peaceful world

Racism lives in the u.s.a.
Get hip to what Martin Luther did have to say
I don't want my kids being brought up this way
Hatred to each other is not okay
Well I'm not a preacher just a singer son
I can see more work to be done
Its what you do and not what you say
If youre not part of the future then get out of the way

Come on baby take a ride with me
I'm up from Indiana down to Tennessee
Everything is cool as can be in a peaceful world

Lay back the top and ride with me
Im up from Indiana down to Tennessee
Everything is cool as can be
In a peaceful world

The moneys good and the works ok
Looks like everything is rolling our way
Til you gotta look the devil in the eye
You know that bastards one big lie
So be careful with your heart and what you love
Make sure that it was sent from above
Its what you do and not what you say
If youre not part of the future then get out of the way

Come on baby take a ride with me
Im up from Indiana down to Tennessee
Everything is cool as can be in a peaceful world

Lay back the top and ride with me
Im up from Indiana down to Tennessee
Everything is cool as can be
In a peaceful world

  72. TopChamp Says:
  73. Hey Bond. This addresses some of the issues I have with 'wishing' for peace.

However it all still troubles me - I don't like religion. I don't think it's necessarily just religion promoting militant actions but each religion inherently presumes that it's viewpoint is right - therefore others must be wrong. It all just confuses me and I really don't understand.

I think I'll go and drink some wine and forget about it for now.

  74. Meribah Says:
  75. Some wise words there, Bond. Happy Peace Day to you!
