Dona Nobis Pacem - Today and Everyday

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Sunday, November 04, 2012 9 Of Your Sparks

Today we celebrate the 6th Anniversary of BLOGBLAST FOR PEACE.

It seems like yesterday I found an excellent writer who was blogging under the name Mimi Lenox.  She had a way of weaving her words into a portrait your minds-eye could see as clear as if it were right in front of you.

And then in October of 2006 she began writing about this idea...a day of blogging about one thing - PEACE.

A simple concept, especially for one who spent their teens during the upheaval of the Vietnam War and the protests across our country.

I was in immediately.

My first globe was simple...and amateuristic, and, of course, it contained a reference to music as all my post have since that first Peace Globe post.

Big Leather Couch has not been very active recently because of my move more toward Music On The Couch, but my love of this movement and the goal we have chosen is still deeply ingrained in my DNA.

This year, with the disaster of Sandy still in front of us it occurred to me that, during a natural disaster people come together.  It does not matter if that person who is in need of assistance is a different color or a different religion,

We hold out our hand and offer PEACE...isn't that what it is after all?

That food you offer gives them PEACE in their belly.

That item of clothing gives them PEACE to ward off the cold.

The bed or piece of floor you supply allows them PEACE to re-energize.

That smile you show them gives them PEACE that it will all be OK.

So, I ask, why can't this happen every day?

Why can't we extend this PEACE to those across a border as easily as we do for those across the street?

I do not believe it is because we know that neighbor...I watched a woman in an apartment in lower Manhattan talk about not knowing her fellow apartment dwellers AT ALL, before they were plunged into darkness...and now, they all sleep with their doors ajar to ensure they are all safe.

Strangers, living within feet of each other pulled together by a common cause.

This planet has a common cause.  Whether you are Catholic, Jewish, Hindu, Muslim - our common cause is to SURVIVE.

The easiest way to reach that goal is to find a way to accept PEACE

Hate is not something in our DNA at birth...it is a learned trait.

What does that mean?  Folks, within ONE GENERATION, we could have PEACE...maybe not 100% but much more than we have now and all we need to do is swallow any learned hate we have inside us and not share it with our children.

ONE GENERATION...think about that and then remember the next time the hate that is inside you wants to come out, don't pass it on to the next generation.

BlogBlast For Peace 2010 - Love Is The Cure

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Thursday, November 04, 2010 38 Of Your Sparks

"LOVE IS THE CURE" - REBA RUSSELL BAND

Today we celebrate, once again, the glorious idea brought to us by our dear friend MIMI of "Mimi Writes". BLOGBLAST FOR PEACE!

Begun 4 years ago, this idea has exploded throughout the internet and is now on Facebook and Twitter and a host of other sites. How did it all begin?

It is a much better idea to let Mimi tell you the story herself, so please go read about Papa's Marbles and find the origins to this call for Peace.

Some have scoffed at this idea - wikipedia - but when you have Peace Globes being sent from the entire US and some 50 countries, well it must touch people's hearts indeed.

I have been honored to participate in all 7 BlogBlasts For Peace and will continue to be a Peace Globe Worker Bee as long as I am taking a breath, or until the world finds a more peaceful solution to our problems.

Each year I have selected something musical to illustrate the call for peace and this year is no different. What is slightly different this year is I have found a song that many probably have never heard.

Written by one of my new friends here in Memphis, Ms. Reba Russell, it is a call for peace and love...a call for the end to hunger and greed and abuse as well as the end to war and pain.

Will we find the answer to all of these problems in my life-time...well, I can only hope it is so. It takes one person to do a kindness to start a revolution of kindness...the concept of 'paying it forward'...helping that older woman across the street...holding a door for a woman or a man, so it does not close in their face...seeing someone on the side of the road and stopping to offer assistance...or just a smile at a stranger on the street as you pass by on your way to your destination.

LOVE IS THE CURE FOR EVERYTHING

One act of kindness and then you can only hope and pray they pass it on and so on and so on...

On this day, I forget about the differences I have with others...I look to the positive of our world.

This past Tuesday we went to the polls here in the US to select the individuals we think are best suited to represent us in government. The last years have been rife with bitterness and hate and undeclared war between our political parties. We would like to tell the world that we are above racial and ethnic divides, but in all reality, we are still fighting those battles.

LOVE IS THE CURE FOR EVERYTHING

The instigators who are continuing to try and divide our great country need to take a step back and S-T-O-P now, before we find ourselves in the middle of another civil war.

What? Think it can not happen? Do not be blind to those who spread lies and hate...and I am talking about those on both sides of the issues. If we can not make this better, what will our children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren be left with, but a history of deceit and hatred and bigotry.

LOVE IS THE CURE FOR EVERYTHING

Just reach out to someone who is not like you and extend your hand in friendship. No one says we must all think and act alike - me especially, but accept that we are all equal and all have the right to express our feelings without the hatred which has permeated our society today.

If we can't get it right here...how can the earth get it right. And if we can't get it right for the earth, there might not be one someday very soon.

LOVE IS THE CURE FOR EVERYTHING

It is official....

Welcome to the 7th launch of BlogBlast For Peace aka Dona Nobis Pacem in the blogosphere. It's inception began in 2006 with one single post and a cry for peace in our world.

A small group of bloggers answered that challenge and it began to spread across the internet in ways that humble me still. It reaches across political lines and religious creeds, abides in corners of unrest and places of hope, gives voice to individual beliefs and promotes tolerance for diversity. It celebrates the genius in each one of us, found in sparkling conversations of passionate pleas for change in the earth. It is that hope for change that motivates us.

It was the Internet's first ever online movement of its kind to invite bloggers to post the same message on the same day. From blog to blog it has moved and continues to grow. We have been amazed to see the power and passion shown each year displayed on pages across the world. We visit each other with our prayers and scribbles, prose and poetry, art and angst, heart and hilarity - and we are moved by it. From one post to thousands of others in fifty countries and almost every state in the United States, something rare and wonderful happens on BlogBlast For Peace day.

I am privileged to witness it.
I invite you to experience it.
It's time.

Warmest Wishes...Grant Us Peace..

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Wednesday, December 24, 2008 29 Of Your Sparks

Well, Hanukkah is in full swing and today is Christmas Eve.

Kwanzaa
begins in two days and Festivus is being celebrated throughout the world.

To all of you, my most special guests here on The Couch:

Nancy & I

send you a sleigh full of warm wishes,
good health and financial stability for this Holiday season.

May you all have time with loved ones...

May you all stay aware of those on the roads who are not responsible...

May you all return here next week for a few posts to wrap up 2008...

Until then, as has become our custom here on The Couch,
we leave you with our latest Peace Globe
and a mini-concert of music of the season...

See y'all on Monday!

Honestly, there are four or five songs here. I sat at the computer too long and the back is acting up, so I am not even sure who I selected, but I thought it flowed nicely...then my back said ENOUGH!

Listen to as much or as little as you like...I might even throw another mix up tomorrow...

Ah heck...Henry Mancini, His Orchestra & Singers; Tony Bennett w/ The Count Basie Orchestra; Luther Vandross (i think); Shania Twain...

Merry Christmas

Dona Nobis Pacem - Year 2

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Thursday, November 06, 2008 39 Of Your Sparks

Can you believe it has been two years since Mimi had a vision - staring at the one blue marble in the bowl of her granddad's marbles?

If you have never read this wonderful post, you can find it HERE...it truly is inspirational.

This year, we celebrate the Second Anniversary of the BLOGBLAST FOR PEACE, two days after the USA has elected a new President. A truly monumental day in the history of our great country. The first person of color will be inaugurated on January 20, 2009.

Today, hundreds of people from all over the globe will fly their PEACE GLOBES with pride and dignity. All of these people, strangers for the most part...many with nothing in common...except they were brought together by one woman, one thought, one marble and two years later there are peace Globes flying in 44 countries on this big blue marble we call home.

THANK YOU MIMI!

This was a contentious campaign and election. There is still a great number of people in this country who have decided they will not put aside their personal feelings and work to make our country better.

Yesterday, I tried to extend an olive branch on the bloggosphere and had my hand chewed at....It seems that some have no intent on allowing President-elect Obama the chance to become a President for all. OH well...

This year, I went looking for a quote some weeks back and the one I am using today was one that made the final cut of three.

I was not sure why I kept it...I read the words and thought 'why would you not pick the open hand?'. Then I read it as I know some might that "We are going to meet even if we HAVE to fight". That was not the message I wished to communicate to the world today.

A conundrum of a whole different sort that would be...indeed!

Then, Tuesday evening as I watched the different stations and the events unfold I knew this was the globe I was going to fly high today.

The quote is from the great American writer/poet/twice Nobel Prize recipient; Carl Sandburg.

With everything that has transpired over the last 10 weeks, it became the only quote to use.

I feel like the citizens of the United States Of America made a decision that diplomacy not force is the order of the day. A new strategy for our overseas diplomacy. A new course for our country.

Diplomacy, the extending of a hand in friendship - Force, the approaching arm raised.

Diplomacy, the use of words to negotiate - Force, the endless loss of life with little hope in sight.

Diplomacy, a choice made by the wise man no matter the leader - Force, the path taken by those too bitter to accept.

For the last two years we have tried to get a page on wikipedia regarding PEACE GLOBES and the BLOGBLAST FOR PEACE, and each time we have been shot down by those who 'run' that site. We have been told it is frivolous and without merit. Yet, they find reasons to allow "Talk Like A Pirate Day" to be listed...It makes me shake my head in wonder...

We will continue trying to get it listed...never give up!

Just the other day the thought went through my mind "gee lifelogger has been real stable recently"....JINX! The site has been down for at least two days! LOL

So I went back through some posts and grabbed this...Actually, it was used last year on the first anniversary of BLOGBLAST FOR PEACE and the words seem even more appropriate today!.

Dona Nobis Pacem

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Wednesday, June 04, 2008 40 Of Your Sparks

A little less than two years ago I was introduced to a woman who has become a most excellent friend. How did this introduction come to pass? Well, I saw something about a thing called PEACE GLOBES out in the bloggosphere and followed the trail of breadcrumbs until I came upon a site called MIMI WRITES.

I read the first post ..her inspiration post, which you can find HERE.

Today, I went back to her first BLOG BLAST FOR PEACE post, her story of Papa and the blue marble and went through the comments. Back then, I was just anonymous...but I am almost 90% positive this was my comment:

"OH MY Mimi.... brilliant...You spun the heartwarming tale of Papa into this Special Day

I am thrilled I found Bestest, which allowed me to find Cathy...which brought me to you!

Thank you Papa for the inspiration to your grand-daughter....And thank you Mimi for your inspiration to all of us."

See...breadcrumbs....

I have participated in every single one of the BLOG BLASTS FOR PEACE, also know as DONA NOBIS PACEM and through them all, my circle of friends grew. I trumpeted this great event again in December of '06 and then June of '07 and the year Anniversary in November of '07.

A small idea...and Mimi was helped as some left breadcrumbs around the bloggosphere and others followed...

Now, here we are celebrating the fifth DONA NOBIS PACEM and it is incredible how this tiny little thing, begun by one woman has grown in the Bloggosphere. Last November we were even able to get a small mention in Wikipedia, but they did not think it was important enough and discarded the entry.

I think it is time to do so once more and if many people go in and enter it, maybe the small minded people there will see that this is an IMPORTANT EVENT!

We also did a poem for Mimi which you can read on my First Anniversary of DONA NOBIS PACEM post...

As is the case here on The Couch, I have skewed my posts toward music that has a peaceful message.

Below are the links to our past contributions...and then this Celebration's musical message.

Thank you Papa...for the blue marble...for the inspiration...Thank You Mimi for your continued selflessness in spreading a most incredibly important message. Over the last month Mimi has given us multiple reasons from around the globe on why PEACE IS IMPORTANT. You can find those posts along her sidebar if you have not read them yet. All inspiring in their sadness...in their tragedy...

Bless you all...Peace to you all...If we are free we can find PEACE!...

All the world over, so easy to see
People everywhere just wanna be free

Listen, please listen, that's the way it should be

Peace in the valley, people got to be free

You should see what a lovely, lovely world this'd be

Everyone learns to live together

Seems to me such an easy, easy thing should be

Why can't you and me learn to love one another

All the world over, so easy to see

People everywhere just wanna be free (wanna be free)

I can't understand it, so simple to me (it is)

People everywhere just got to be free

If there's a man who is down and needs a helping hand

All it takes is you to understand and to pull him through

Seems to me we got to solve it individually

And I'll do unto you what you do to me

There'll be shoutin' from the mountains on out to sea (out to sea)

No two ways about it, people have to be free (they got to be free)

Ask me my opinion, my opinion will be (ah-ha)

It's a natural situation for a man to be free

Oh, what a feelin's just come over me
It's enough to move a mountain, make a blind man see

Everybody's dancin' c'mon let's go see

Peace in the valley, now they want to be free

See that train over there

Now that's the train of freedom

It's about to arrive any minute, now

You know, it's been long, long overdue

Look out 'cause it's comin' right on through

LET'S ALL GET ON BOARD!

Spreading The Peace...

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Wednesday, May 28, 2008 21 Of Your Sparks

OK...here goes...this is all over the bloggosphere and that is a GREAT THING!

We now give you The Queen Of The Memes, Her Royal Pencil-Skirt, Mimi Writes...

Peace Globes did not begin as a meme. But it began to behave like a meme. Blog to blog to blog. Like a fog. We didn't use the word "tag" ....but that's what we did when we invited others in our blogrolls to participate. The fact that you did so without the obligatory tag is proof that the concept is powerful.

It's a fact that the fastest and most effective way to spiral an idea out of control in the blogosphere is via a meme. I should know! The 700+ bloggers who participated in past launches (and that truly is the tip of The-Iceberg-I-Never-Found) knows what it means to them. It's about unity. We have that in spades. It's about activism, awareness, crossing political lines, making a statement and sharing ideas. We've done that. We have the vision as a core group of bloggers for peace; but we do not - yet - have the power in numbers behind the message.

Unity in numbers = power

Peace power?

What a revolutionary idea.

My vision hasn't changed. Nor has my commitment to the project or my willingness to work hard. But if it is to have the influence I know it can - then I have to work smarter. Today, I, Mimi Queen of Memes. toss a slew of beautiful little peaceful globes into the galactic blogosphere - to get the ball rolling.

How far will they go? Where will they land?

Who will catch them? Where will they send them next?

Who will draw a picture, write a poem, make a song, write a post....that might have the power to begin to change the landscape of my world?

Someone will.

Will it be you?

A friend told me earlier this evening "I have a healthy respect for the power of the written word. If we can all get together and do this on the same day, with the right post title, it can have meaning....It can extend the meaning and become more powerful."

Right, my friend. A revolution of words.

Don't you want to know how far your words will reach? Have you ever wondered if what you write has relevance and meaning to someone else? Maybe someone in another country, maybe even a violent place. Or just a lonely space.

I have to believe that there are many others who - given the opportunity - would like to speak for peace. I say we should use all the tools at our disposal to make sure they get the chance.

This meme is a movement.

Let's move it.

BlogBlast For Peace Meme ~ Join The Revolution

Here are the rules and the story.

Copy this into a post, ADD YOUR NAME to the bottom of the tag list and tag as many people as you'd like.

The Peace Globe project began in the fall of 2006 with a simple post from one blog, Mimi Writes. The post ignited a flame in the blogosphere. The flame became a passion. The passion became a movement. It amazingly traveled from blog to blog to blog across the globe. Bloggers wrote passionate articles on what peace means to them, along with the promise of three Latin words scribbled on a globe - Dona Nobis Pacem (Grant Us Peace) - branded with the integrity of their names or blog names. It was positively inspiring to watch. And it began to happen all over the world - from Singapore to China to Afghanistan to Brooklyn.

It was simple. And powerful.

In less than two weeks bloggers from all across the globe will blog for peace.

We will speak with one voice. One subject. One day.

Won't you join us?
