Wednesday Words....

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Wednesday, December 03, 2008

Personally, I think this is HUGE news...but I am disappointed he is not coming anywhere near Memphis...

Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Steve Winwood, recently named one of Rolling Stone magazine's "100 Greatest Singers of All Time," will ring in the New Year with a series of East Coast concert performances in January. Winwood's upcoming East Coast concert dates mark the first U.S. headline tour since 2007 for the legendary rock superstar, who last toured the states with Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers in the summer of 2008.

Winwood is currently enjoying the success of his most recent album, Nine Lives, which entered the Billboard 200 at #12 last May, bringing the artist his highest chart debut, and best first week's sales, of the SoundScan era. Eric Clapton, Winwood's former bandmate in Blind Faith, rock's original "supergroup," lent his signature guitar work to " Dirty City ," the album's first single, which held the #1 added single spot for three weeks in a row and peaked at the overall #2 spot on AAA Radio.

Here are the tour dates...This is something to see folks!

15, 16 - New York, NY - United Palace
17 - Mashantucket, CT - MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods
19 - Baltimore, MD - Meyerhoff Symphony Hall
20 - Montclair, NJ - Wellmont Theatre
22 - Lancaster, PA - American Music Theatre
23 - Niagara Falls, NY - Seneca Niagara Casino Theatre
24 - Kingston, NY - Ulster Performing Arts Center

I wondered if anyone would comment on the picture behind me from yesterday's post. It took Doc Blogstein to do so...On the wall in the background of the first photo there is a framed picture of what looks like you as a short order cook. Whats the story behind that?

Well, Doc...that is actually me in the concession stand from the West Windsor Little League. Older guests know that I ran the concession stand for 6 years (4 of those after Matt had grown out of Little League). The picture is from an article from the Trentonian newspaper. we were hosting a 14-day tournament and I spent pretty much all 14 days in the concession cooking.

In that 14-day time, we netted $14,000.00 for the league!

The picture hangs on a small wall in my bedroom and is basically my "Ego Wall" (some might call it something different)...It is the place I hung pictures and plaques that I received over the years. In the picture from yesterday, you can also see a shot taken on a trail at Aspen Resort in Colorado with my friend Rich and two of his friends.

Ah hell, here is the whole wall, because I just know y'all want to see it! (yeahhhh right!)

OH and NO JAY, the labels
are on the picture...
NOT on the wall itself!

That's it for today folks...well except for some TUNEAGE!!!!!

And we might as well make it some Winwood Tuneage while we are at it! "Gimme Some Lovin'" with Spencer Davis Group and "Dear Mr. Fantasy" from Traffic.

ENJOY!!!!!

  14. Just because you sneak into a picture doesn't mean that you were on the football team :)

  15. Tug Says:
  16. I ran a concession stand for years, too, but we certainly didn't serve chicken parm!

  17. Jay Says:
  18. I thought maybe you had just written on the wall under or next to each picture with a Sharpie tell what the pic was. ;-)

  20. I've always loved Winwood. OK. NOW I feel like I'm in the music loop here on your site. Most days I feel unqualified (I have a music degree and performed all kinds of stuff from Mozart to Cassidy to Raitt, why do I feel that way??) I shouldn't. But your expertise on popular music is really impressive.....

Bud and I have had this discussion. He is a walking encyclopedia of band/popular music. I love it just as much but my attention for so long was concentrated elsewhere out of necessity to get my degree (and is my daily work) so I feel like I'm always learning/remembering here on your site and when he posts music memes. Over time I have learned a lot from him. Thanks to both of you. Today I get it!!

Keep me on my toes, will ya?
I have learned that DJs are generally people with a realistic pulse on society - and most everything else.
I defer to your inner DJ.

    BUD: He is coming back...

ANNDI: Not surprised they are sold out...he is making a HUGE comeback

    DOC: HA...but I was...so there

TUG: they didn't before I ran it and they haven't since I moved...that was MY desire...along with sausage and peppers and bar-b-que pork sammiches

JAY: Which is exactly why I made sure you knew that was not the case!

MIMI: Why thank you ma'am...Glad I could instruct along with Bud...and your knowledge of all things classical makes me blush

Sounds like your Thanksgiving was a huge success. Good company and good eats. Can't go wrong there.

The players are not active right now, so I'll have to imagine the tunes. Take care my friend.

  29. Patti Says:
  30. I enjoyed looking at your ego wall.
Your fraternity pictures look an awful lot like Ralph's, LOL.

I love Winwood's "When You See A Chance." That is the name of it, isn't it?
News flash: I had the 45 of "I'm A Man."
