FINALLY FRIDAY!!!!!!

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Friday, May 01, 2009

So, yesterday I upgraded my iLife on my Mac. iLife is the application for Mac that runs iPhoto (Photo storage and manipulation), iMovie (for all your movie needs…I use it to make my videos for youtube (automatically uploads for you) and also for converting the old VHS tapes to digital), iDVD (program that burns your DVDs with cool templates etc), and iWeb (for building web sites) and Garage band (lets you compose and record music).

It is a pretty cool suite of apps if you ask me. I upgraded because the iMovie has been changed back to an interface closer to its original release. The release I have is clunky and sometimes awkward to use. Also, iPhoto has a ton of updates including facial recognition (talked about in the new Mac Ads on TV).

When I installed it, iPhoto reviewed all my pictures, noting the faces. I will then go in and select a few pictures of someone (say Nancy) and then iPhoto will go through and collect all photos with her in them into one folder.

This will be great as I continue to digitize my photos. It would have been so easy when I did the video for Mom Joan last year on her birthday.

I almost went for the Photoshop Elements, because I have realized the whole Creative Suite is way too expensive. I passed on Elements on this trip to the Apple Store, but plan on going back next month. The freeware program GIMP I learned about from ROGER from “Idaho Daily Photo is good, but it does not have the variation of filters that Photoshop has. Hell, I asked the guy at the Apple Store about Aperture 2 the Apple photo manipulation application and he even said “If you want to do work with photos, Photoshop is the beast and nothing compares.”

How often does someone tell you another company’s product is better than theirs? Not very often.

OK, I did buy one other thing while I was there…they had the Tiger Woods Golf on sale and I grabbed it. I used to play golf on my Mac all the time. I was even in a group with players all over the world. We played the game LINKS, and had weekly tournaments and such. It was as much about the socialization as playing the game.

Links went the way of Pong when Tiger Woods Golf came out. The group converted over to TWG, but my computer was old and tired and would not accept the game, so I retired.

I am looking forward to playing some golf and going out into the cyber world to see if my boys are still out there playing. Would be fun to get back into it again.

Well kiddies…another week has passed us by…the pigs are taking over the world as far as the media is concerned…there are still too many people thinking if they wish hard enough McCain and Palin will be in the White House…and the weekend looks to be wet and fugly, so I am still debating on whether I am going to the Music Fest.

I had this one playing on my iTouch at the office today and actually hit the replay on it twice...an oldie, but most certainly a goodie…Deep Purple

ENJOY – HAVE A GRAND WEEKEND!

I bought TWG as well. I just haven't had time to load it up yet. And yes, I was addicted to Links for a couple of years. Small world.

  3. Schmoop Says:
  4. I wish you hadn't mentioned a golf game. I used to have an addiction to one. I'd play it constantly. It's okay...I'll be fine. Deep Breath. Cheers Vinny!!

  5. DRILLERAA: Load the game dude...it is tough but fair. Have a joyous weekend.

  12. Let me say that I am pleased that all the commenter's kept it clean and no I am not deleting what I think are excellent back and forth, this is the kind of debate we need to have.

I suppose I should apologize for going into the belly of the beast (Matt Man’s yard) and instigating the harsh words that followed. Regardless of what you think my initial comment was intended to be humor, in my simple mind it was not raciest. When Matt’s readers called me raciest I must admit I was upset. In any event I apologize.

I do think Matt went over the top with his post today but if that is what he believes, so be it, he is wrong as is his politics but I will attempt not to insult him again.

For my old friend Bond, I agree, we had some very interesting debates and I would love to do that again, I cannot control insults from readers but I will ask that they tone them down. I offer my hand in friendship.

I will tell you that I have zero tolerance for profanity even though I will used an occasional hell or damn usually I find that heck works just as well. I will delete comments that are profane otherwise, have at me, I have tough skin.

  14. I keep getting the prompt to update iLife on my Mac but I haven't done it yet. I'm afraid it will mess up and not work on my older powerbook.

  15. Sarge: I rarely utter a profane word on my blog or others.

I never called you a racist. In my comment on Matt's blog I said I was tired of the racist comments made over on your blog and that your readers were truly at fault.

You have some people who see one spot in front of them and refuse to allow anyone other than their choice to try and bring us out of the pit we fell into a year ago.

  16. MATT-MAN: The addiction is beginning to take hold...i played for like 3 hours last night.

    PHFRANKIE: And you Sir

BUD: Gimp is good...but spend the $80 and get the Photoshop Elements

JAY: Sent you an email. If your puter can handle it - get it.

  17. Patti Says:
  18. I don't know about all this iLife stuff.

  31. My photos on my computer are such a mess. I've been taking so many pics of Jazz Fest and such over the years and they're scattered all over the computer. I really need to get things organized.

Only went to one day of Jazz Fest this year, but it was a good day. No rain this year, but it was hot.

    Have a great weekend.

  32. RW Says:
  33. Hope your weekend rocked Vin! Thanks for the shout about GIMP for free you cant beet it. I also have Paint.Net and Elements with a TOPAZ pluggin sold separately but is awesome. I read a lot of reports and reviews and you can do some awesome things with the affordable Adobe Elements compared to the massively high dollar photo manipulation program (that shall not be named) But if you get it, I want to know allllll about it! ;D
