Happy Birthday to Cousin Denise!
2 days until we leave for Tampa and a few days of fun with old friends and a new friend; darlin' Nancy, and the beach and the sun and some beer and some laughs and some beer...of course the weather forecast is for scattered thundershowers...but hell, it is Florida in the spring...
It has been raining here often and the Mississippi and tributaries are all up high and the temps are either 50 or 70 it seems...
And that is your weather here in Memphis...
Have you picked up on the fact that we are at a loss for words tonight?
The final Opening Day for Yankee Stadium was rained out yesterday. Sort of like Mother Nature saying, I am not happy you are bringing down the "House That Ruth Built".
The new stadium looks beautiful with all the amenities needed by major league teams today. It is just as much or more about the corporate sponsors; those companies who spend millions of dollars for luxury suites used to entertain customers and to allow the big wigs schmooze for business.
Here are some construction photos taken in February
We just got interrupted from watching "Medium" just now - cutting away from the last 15 minutes of the show to listen to one of the local weather-heads tell us that there is a thunderstorm warning.
Hail?...ummm no, not really.
Lightening?...ummm, well there was an hour ago, but not really anymore.
High Winds?...13 mph...ah not really.
Tornadoes?...ummm no, not any of them.
Rain?...oh yeah some of that.
This is one thing we have noticed since moving here. The weather-heads LOVE to hear themselves talk. Wait - OH GOODY, throw it to the other weather-head who has been working the computers..."Hey lets look at the light-show happening right now(cuts to a camera looking out over the Mississippi River showing nothing at all)...ummm well there was a ton of lightening just a little while ago...OOO there is one!"
Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with them cutting in when there is a HUGE storm... but this is ridiculous. It is a normal everyday thunderstorm, with lessening conditions, no damage reported.
Weather song...hummm...let's go look. Be right back.
OK - here is what we found - a Tuesday Twosome for all y'all...
ENJOY....
Linda Ronstadt, from her Cry Like A Rainstorm, Howl Like The Wind album; the title track, "Cry Like A Rainstorm". After a number of albums focusing on her Spanish heritage, Ronstadt made a full return to the mainstream pop charts in 1989.
This effort became one of the singers all-time biggest albums, in terms of production,
arrangements, chart sales, and critical acclaim.
The album returned Ronstadt, as a solo artist, back to the Top 10 of the Billboard Album Chart, reaching the #7 position and being certified triple-platinum. The album also received critical acclaim, being nominated for numerous Grammy awards.
Aaron Neville appeared on 4 of the 12 cuts on the album with Linda...which led us to scroll down the iTunes list and find this one. From his Warm Your Heart album.

Florida has thundershowers in the spring?
It is always bittersweet when a team gets a new stadium and leaves their history.
the last 15 minutes of medium is in 15 minutes....
I hope you have a great trip.
And yes the weathermen in the South tend to get rather dramatic cause well there's some pretty dramatic weather!
Thanks Bond, haven't heard Ms. Ronstadt in years. May just buy this sometime this weekend. HAFD :)
I always thought that Ronstadt was one of the best female vocalists ever! When Trisha Yearwood came along, I thought she was the best and most versatile female vocalist since Ronstadt. Linda is still my "gold standard" for measuring female vocalists. Thanks for the tunes.
Be thankful you don't have snow. LOLOL
I'm new to your blog, and glad I happened upon it! Great songs today - two of my all-time favorites!
Talking heads get paid to be talking heads. Isn't that why you went into radio? It isn't? Oh...*grin*
Whenever it rains here, it always floods, so rain in the desert is a very, very big deal here. Eh. Whatever.
I'm sure you'll have a marvelous time in Tampa, regardless of the weather. It's the beach, after all!
Wait...you mean the weather changes frequently in the South?! Really?
Don always used to use the old "if you don't like Georgia weather, wait 5 minutes line." And I am jealous. I love thunder and lightening storms and we rarely get them here. Of course we have had SNOW the last week so Oregon can be quixotic as well.
I grew up Linda Ronstadt. One of my earliest concert memories is seeing her back when Waddy Wachtel was her guitarist waaay back when. Nice choice! A little Stevie Ray would work well too =)
Are they going to sell steroids at the new stadium? Cheers!!
Vinny, stop by my blog for an award from me!
Francia Raisa needs to miss every week - so we can keep seeing more pictures.
Hope you have a great time in Florida.
Wonder if you're gonna make it tonight! SUSPENSE!
KATHERINE: Spring-Thunderstorms-Florida-YUP
I ended up watching the last 15 minutes online at nbc.com
TURNBABY: I understand the dramatic weather thing..but this was a freaking rain storm....
LU': Glad you enjoyed the tuneage...and you are now linked here
DRILLERAA: She holds some records for albums sold etc etc...she has always been brilliant
TWYLA: OH very thankful...
DANA: Thanks for sitting on The Couch..always room for new friends and music everyday!
SONGBIRD: Very philosophical of you - and radio is not really talking heads, since you do not see us...Rain suck when it causes damage...
STARRLIGHT: Another wise-ass...yeah the weather changes and they say that about FL..if you do not like the weather wait 5 minutes...
Linda has always been HAWT to me and I also saw her with him, though it was before you...ummm 1973 I think
MATT-MAN: yuk yuk
TEACH: I am honored...TY
RWA: Dang boy...just put her on your desktop! LOL
DOC: Keep wondering!
Well being a smartass beats the alternative ;)
And it would have been around 75 for me, as I don't think I was older than say 5 or 6.
She did It's So Easy cause I remember wanting a cowbell. Odd what stuff sticks in a kids brain!
STARRLIGHT: You know...it could have been about '75 (ugh...I was in college and you were 5 or 6 sheesh)..but I do remember being in the third row center and she had a tambourine hanging on her mic stand and the shadow from the pinspot on her caused a circle shadow that outlined her ummm...vagina and how I kinda focused on that for so much of the show! LOL She wore a blue dress that was oh so short and her legs were so nice and odd what stuff sticks in a guys mind!
Short red dress at our show! Not sure if we got a vagina monologue with ours though :P
Thinking it was the same tour....and her tambourine was in the same spot...but you might not have noticed...Ask dad! LOL
LOVE the award - hee...
I got to watch ALL of Medium, & we had a 70 car pileup because of snow...
Ahh... mini breaks! Enjoy!
TUG: So did I hehehe...well I saw it at lunch online - nice twist
KB: I will BUT I need a loooong break SOON!
whoa - you get a lot of awards. It's almost as if people like you!
I'm in a gooooood mood - hope your radio show goes well. 2am on a Tuesday is always too late, but I am impressed by your guests and do try to listen again as often as I can.
Bond! Thanks for adding me to your blogroll...I've done in kind. Glad I found your blog...
THanks and HUGS!!
You gotta love cotton panties on a big leather couch.....even in a photo you can feel the softness....
I lived in Tampa for a couple of years, great place! Fun times! The Buccaneers really sucked back then! I remember going to a game at the old Buc stadium at half time, one of the players got married as the father gave the bride away. Some guy three rows up from my nose bleed seat, started yelling at the top of his lungs "DON'T DO IT! DON'T RUIN YOUR LIFE LIKE I DID!" of course we all busted up laughing even the bride and groom were chuckling.
I've been to about a dozen different major league ballparks. I'm sad to say Yankee Stadius wasn't one of them.
I grew up with the '61 team as my heros. Mantle, Berra, Ford, Maris, Richardson, Kubek, and the rest. I know times must change, but I really hate to see that icon disappear.
Dang talking heads!
We just get a weather scroll. If it's really serious we'll get the EBS warning.
