COMPOSERS: WAR
The story is about a group of car thieves who must steal 50 cars in one night to save the character of Kip from being taken out by some mobsters.
The cars they are going after are absolutely the coolest there are ever...(Right Trav?)..there are some continuity goofs and some of the cars are mis-identified throughout the movie, but again...this is a 'fluff film'. A couple of cool car chases fill it all in.

One of the cool parts in the movie is as the crew is getting ready to start their night and Nick Cage calls for silence and they start the music as they all 'get in the mood'...
The song is WAR'S "Lowrider" a song we have always thought was so freakin' cool and in sexy....Released in 1975 on the Why Can't We Be Friends album, it reached #1 on Billboard's R&B chart and #35 on the Billboard Pop Singles chart.
The Lowriders are originally credited to the Mexican/American/Chicano culture, on the west coast around LA and San Diego, but the phenomena has spread across the country and you will find lines of Lowriders cruising through cities and towns on weekend nights and arriving at a local fast food parking lot or other common area.
The car most common and identified with Lowriding is the 1964 Chevy Impala, though any car or truck can be customized...There are even magazines dedicated to the art of customizing and the the Lowrider lifestyle...
"Mini-Tutelage"
The Original lineup sans Burdon
War was a multicultural American band of the 1970s from California, known for the hit songs "Low Rider", "Spill the Wine" and "Why Can't We Be Friends?".
Formed in 1969, War was the first and most successful musical crossover, fusing elements of rock, funk, jazz, Latin music, R&B, and even reggae. The band also transcended racial and cultural barriers with a multi-ethnic line-up.
The band's diverse musical influences have made it an enduring influence, one that has sold nearly 25 million records to date.
Although War's lyrics are often socio-political in nature, their music usually had a laid-back, California funk vibe. The music has been sampled and recorded by many singers and groups, ranging from Janet Jackson to Korn to TLC.
They were certainly part of our teenage years, our band PEACE OF MYND used to do "Spill The Wine" in rehearsals, though we can not ever remember pulling it out during one of our live performances...
"Spill The Wine" from the album Eric Burdon Declares War, was the band's first hit during the time they were known as ERIC BURDON AND WAR. Burdon who is most famous for being the front man for the band THE ANIMALS was brought into the studio with the band by producer Jerry Goldstein. Burdon left the group after one more album, also released in 1970, a two-disc set called Black-Mans Burdon. He left in the middle of a European tour. The song reached #3 on the Billboard charts.
"Why Can't We Be Friends" from the album of the same name, was played in space when NASA beamed it to the linking of Soviet Cosmonots and U.S astronauts in 1975. "Why Can't We Be Friends" charted at #6 in 1975
# B.B. Dickerson - Bass
# Lee Oskar - Harmonica, Vocals
# Lonnie Jordan - Keyboards, Vocals
# Papa Dee Allen - Percussion, Bongos, Vocals
# Harold Brown - Drums, Vocals
# Charles Miller - Saxophone, Flute, Clarinet, Vocals
# Howard E. Scott - Guitar,Vocals, Bandleader
All of the band played different percussion instruments constantly changing and sharing.

Ah...thanks so much for the awesome photo of the Shelby 'stang...some day...
Great tunes, as usual. War brings back lots of memories...
LOL..I had actually posted then realized I needed to add a few special pictures and added the cars...good timing...
Hey I liked that movie but I also have the original 1974 H.B. Halicki film Gone in 60 Seconds.
(kate - 1971 DeTomaso Pantera)
Great...gonna teach everyone the art of cheating...sheesh
I know you changed it, 'cause I saw it in Google Reader, but then couldn't access it because you'd taken it down to edit!
But...but...but now I see that you added everything after "All of the band played different percussion instruments constantly changing and sharing." since I first commented.
Aaaack! Are you trying to drive me nuts?!
ROGER: Will have to check out the original...
KATHERINE: A sleek, fast, stunningly beautiful car (I added a picture of it) Hey, I am just a secondary member..call in and yell at Doc!
SONGBIRD: Your reader should tell you that I normally post and then take down to reedit many of my posts! LOL
Lowrider always makes me think of summer--and cars!
You know I am a car chick--and there are so many lovelies on this list --Oh my---I think I'd look pretty good in Susan--any thoughts;-)
THe guests sound very interesting for the show tonight--I'm pretty sure I'll be able to bug you in the chat room.
Smooch
Bond baby - LOVE that movie.
Best line? YOU NEED A ROLE MODEL. hehe.
Sexiest line? Nick Cage - "I'm a bad, bad man"
Angelina Jolie, Nic Cage, fast cars....might be fluff but it keeps me glued to the screen every time.
Thanks for the pics - back to dreaming.......
SMOOCHES.
mmmm....Hemi Cuda! Now THAT is a muscle car. Lawd have mercy.
And I adore War. Love that band. Ass shakin music if there ever was any!
TURN: You and Susan make a good pair...yup ... I am hoping I get to be more involved with the Vince interview...I love his s**t
STARRLIGHT: As I was looking at the list and letting my brain fantasize that I hit the lottery, I could not make a choice between the car i would buy..The Hemi Cuda or the Shelby Mustang..guess I could buy both, but if it came down to one or the other the Cuda would win out in my mind..then a trip across country... OH BABY!
Umm..can we see some of that Ass Shakin' please heheheheheheh
Loved that movie. I actually just watched it again a few weeks ago.
Btw, I have posted some pictures...just for you. LOL
TWYLA: LOVED the pictures....thanks...
I've never been a muscle car guy, although I certainly do love the Shelby.
But for me it's always about the '56 T-bird. The only other car I would possible choose would be the '53 Vette. Thanks for the pics of both.
Classic cars...gotta love em.
If I won the lottery I'd hook us all up with the muscle car of choice =)
And yes the Shelby is a close call, keeping in mine my first 3 cars were Mustangs.
WAr was a GREAT band. All Day Misic, Slippin' into Darkness, The World is a Ghetto, The Cisco Kid and on...
I love Eric Burdon, but Spill the Wine was a bit much for me...
These cars remind me of Grease and some of my dad's cars back in the day. My knowledge on cars is nonexistent. I pull into a gas station, they pump my gas. I pull away. That's as good as it gets.
But I'm learning a lot from this post!
