DON'T MISS OUT ON THE BIG CELEBRATION!!!
How To Get Your Peace Globe November 2007

Got this link from Katherine yesterday. Going to be interesting to follow to see what happens when they search the vehicle and if this man from Arizona was an arsonist. Read the article HERE

So far there has been one reported fire-related death, 70 people have been injured including 34 Firefighters...those men and women who put themselves between the flames and the population to try and stop these fires.

There are almost 8,900 Firefighters battling a reported 18 fires as of Wednesday. Higher humidity has helped shift the Santa Ana's giving some relief to the battle.

Every fire agency in California has been called up. They include:
  • 145 state fire engines,
  • 25 local engines,
  • and 26 bulldozers

As the Santa Ana winds die down, additional support is being provided from the air.

Fifteen hundred members of the California National Guard have been called up to provide security and help with evacuations. About 350 of them were in the fire zones of San Diego County on Wednesday.

According to the Office of Emergency Services in Sacramento; Nevada, and New Mexico and Arizona also sent crews to help:
  • Nevada sent five strike teams of 17 firefighters each, 25 engines and 100 firefighters
  • Arizona sent seven strike teams, 35 engines and 140 firefighters
  • New Mexico sent three strike teams, 15 engines, 60 firefighters

Tuesday night on the Doctor Blogstein Radio Happy Hour, we were honored to have Vince Flynn, the author of the Mitch Rapp series of novels. Mitch Rapp works for the government and does the things that need to be done but no one wants to know about. They are called 'black ops', 'wet work', 007 (License to Kill), and they are necessary.

Mr. Flynn made a great analogy that you might have heard before...'everyone loves sausages but no one wants to watch them made'. What would have happened if, when it was suspected, we sent a team in to kill Osama Bin Laden...you know, back in 1999 or 2000?

Earlier this year, it was reported Ardeshire Hassanpour, 44, an Iranian nuclear physicist was reported killed by the Mossad.

So, with our intellegence, and the skills of our special forces is legendary. You know the Navy SEALS, and the Army's Delta Force, the Marine's "FAST", but we were not aware of the diffierent specialized units here in the United States:
  • Counter-Terrorist Units
    • Intelligence Support Activity (known under various codenames since 1989, including Centra Spike, Torn Victor and Gray Fox)
  • United States Navy
    • Navy Special Warfare Development Group "DEVGRU"
    • SEAL (SEa, Air, Land) Teams
    • Special Warfare Combatant-craft Crewmen (SWCC "Swics", Special Boat Teams)
    • SEAL Delivery Vehicle (SDV) Teams
    • EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal)
  • Intelligence Community Special Units
    • Strategic Support Branch (SSB, DIA)
    • Special Activities Division (CIA)
    • Special Collection Service (SCS, joint NSA - CIA)
    • Proactive and Preemptive Operations Group (P2OG, DoD)
Time to let these guys do their jobs....

We want to congratulate Matt on his successfully completing his training.
His family is obviously very proud of his commitment and determination.

Matt is, of course the son of our SugarBaby Dixie and they are home safe from their trip to Parris Island to share
in the special occasion with Matt and all of his Brother Marines.

We Salute You Sir!

MANFRED MANN'S EARTH BAND are a rock group formed by Manfred Mann, in 1971, following the demise of Mann's former group MANFRED MANN.

The former group was a pop-lyric group whose songs all fit into the 3-minute radio air-play format. Mann purposefully moved away from that format looking more toward the progressive rock of the time.

His love of 20th century English classical music was his inspiration for many of the bands songs, but they had a #1 POP CHART hit with their cover of Bruce's song. More rocking than Bruce's version Mann also changed some of the lyrics from the original.

* Manfred Mann – organ, synthesisers
* Mick Rogers – guitars, vocals
* Chris Slade – drums, concussion
* Colin Pattenden – bass

with

* Ruby James – backing vocals
* Doreen Chanter – backing vocals
* Martha Smith – backing vocals

"BLINDED BY THE LIGHT"
Composer: Bruce Springsteen
Nightingales & Bombers
Island Records
1975

Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night

Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night

Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night

Madman drummers bummers,
Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat
In the dumps with the mumps as the adolescent pumps his way into his hat
With a boulder on my shoulder,
feelin' kinda older,
I tripped the merry-go-round

With this very unpleasin',
sneezin' and wheezin,
the calliope crashed to the ground
The calliope crashed to the ground

But she was...
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night

Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night

Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night

Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night

Some silicone sister with a manager mister told me I got what it takes
She said "I'll turn you on sonny to something strong, play the song with the funky break"
And go-cart Mozart was checkin' out the weather chart to see if it was safe outside
And little Early-Pearly came by in his curly-wurly and asked me if I needed a ride
Asked me if I needed a ride

But she was...
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night
Blinded by the light

She got down but she never got tired
She's gonna make it through the night
She's gonna make it through the night

------ guitar solo ------

But mama, that's where the fun is
But mama, that's where the fun is
[Blinded By The Light lyrics on http://www.metrolyrics.com]

Mama always told me not to look into the eye's of the sun
But mama, that's where the fun is

Some brimstone baritone anticyclone rolling stone preacher from the east
Says, "Dethrone the dictaphone, hit it in it's funny bone, that's where they expect it least"
And some new-mown chaperone was standin' in the corner, watching the young girls dance
And some fresh-sown moonstone was messin' with his frozen zone, reminding him of romance
The calliope crashed to the ground

But she was...
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night

Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night

{the following two sections are sung simultaneously}

1)
Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night

Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night

Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night

Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night

Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night

Blinded by the light,
revved up like a deuce,
another runner in the night

Blinded by the light, revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night

19 Of Your Sparks

  1. Wow. You've got a lot going on in this post.

My brain is overloaded, so...for now, I'll just say...

Ooo-rah. Love those Marines, and I especially love the Marines in my life.

So proud for Dixie, so happy for Matt.

So sad for my neighbors to the west.

  2. katherine. Says:
  3. we need Jason Bourne.

  4. Liz Hill Says:
  5. I much preferred MM's version of this song--and I still think it's "she got down but she never got tight" but...

YAY SUgarbaby and Matt--not sure about posting the pic but he certainly is striking in his dress blues

Kentucky sent volunteers out as well--I think Red Cross to help with displaced folks--so sad

What 'might' have happened had we chopped off the head of that particular snake--who knows? What has happened is reflected on my blog today.

    Smooch

  6. Angell Says:
  7. So sad with those fires, and all those injuries. My prayers are with all the poor souls affected.

We can could've, should've, would've about that living nightmare Osama, but the point is it wasn't done. Who do we blame? Is there anyone TO blame?

We love Matt and Dixie and are proud of both for surviving boot camp. OOH RAH!

LOVE the tune - they often play it at the gym.

  8. Schmoop Says:
  9. Congrats to the other Matt-Man. Oooohrah. Cheers!!

  10. Tug Says:
  11. Congrats to Matt & yay Dix... ;-)

My brother chatted with some of the National Guard yesterday trying to get into his work. Maybe today...

  12. Tug Says:
  13. Congrats to Matt & yay Dix... ;-)

My brother chatted with some of the National Guard yesterday trying to get into his work. Maybe today...

  14. Tiggerlane Says:
  15. Manfred Mann - now THERE's a blast from the past!

My hubby and I were wondering exactly how those fires get started every year. We think terrorists...and any arsonist is a terrorist in our book!

  16. You know the line is really "wrapped up like a douche!"

I think that is the lord king misheard lyric followed closely by Excuse me while I kiss this guy!

  17. Oh my - I was going to type "you know the line is really wrapped up like a douche!" but starrlight beat me to it.
Glad I'm not the only one who thinks this way...

  18. SONGBIRD: And I started with nothing...and then it all poured out...Hoping the weather cooperates out west.

KATHERINE: We need Jason Bourne, Mitch Rapp (Vince Flynn) and Scott Horvath (Brad Thor) combined...let all three loose!

TURN: Well MM changed some of the lyrics...this is Bruce's version and you got it right here:
And she was blinded by the light. cut loose like a deuce
Another runner in the night. blinded by the light
She got down but she never got tight, but shell make it alright

    Very Proud... and nice tribute...

ANGELL: Not sure who you could or should blame...point is both of our governments have the ability, as do the British and the Israelis (though they use it!)...

    MATT-MAN: Woooo-Rahhhhh

    TUG: Thinking of them all...

TIGGERLANE: Two days in a row too... LOL - In one way shape or form, it is terrorism...

STARRLIGHT: STANDS IN FRONT OF THE ROOM: I was guilty of thinking that at one time...thank you :SITS DOWN

MO: Great minds, I guess! =]
They are great...folks, go check it out...

  19. Travis Cody Says:
  20. SEALS and Rangers and Recon Marines! Oooo-RAH!!!

    Special Forces rock!

Tiggerlane: Some of those fires are started by idiots who flick cigarettes out of their vehicle windows and into dry brush on the side of the road. I saw a brush fire start that way, and believe me it doesn't take much when everything is that dry. Some are deliberately set, and others are started by lightening strikes or other natural causes.

Damn, that song has some funky lyrics.

  21. Dr. A Says:
  22. Never knew BBTL was a Springsteen song. I'm always learning great music stuff over here.

Congrats to Matt. I agree. We salute you!

  23. Meribah Says:
  24. I followed the story about the fires on CNN. For some reason, this Canadian puppy is addicted to CNN...when she's not listening to Security Now webcasts! :D

  25. RW Says:
  26. Thanks for the link on the arsonist...Congrats to Matt! And love that tune Vin!

  27. Sparky Duck Says:
  28. the way the real estate market has gone in AZ and Cali, I just wonder if it doesnt have something to do with that somehow. Cuz you know, AZ is just filled with Californians.

A bruce song I actually never enjoyed, good try though

  29. Mimi Lenox Says:
  30. The tragedy in California worsens by the day. It is incomprehensible.

I know Dixie girl is proud as a Mama can be. I'll scoot on over and read her review of the weekend with Matt.

  31. Anndi Says:
  32. You know where my thoughts are as I watch this devastation and the dedicated men and women fighting to stop it.

Yay Matt... doesn't he look handsome?

  33. Julie Says:
  34. Yup yup yup! Ooh-rah to Matt and Dixie! We're all so proud of them.

I wonder what that song means...I've wonder that for SO many years.
