We do not have a CLUE why baseball is not testing for Human Growth Hormones (HGH), as the Olympics do. The Rick Ankiel Saga - what was the feel good story of the year - has taken an ugly turn with the report by the NY Daily News that Ankiel received shipments of HGH while recovering from elbow surgery in 2004.
We have had an email conversation with our good friend (and fellow Hottie) Travis about this over the last few days. Not sure how we are feeling about the years 1998 - the present with MLB at this point. Do we just disregard all records set during this period? Do we accept that the game was dirty during this time and accept it?
The people running the game better do something fast, or the fan base will dwindle...
We will not let the other sports off the hook here, it is evident these things are probably going on in the NFL - 10 years ago linemen weighed 200-250, today they are 100 pounds heavier; there have been whispers even around the PGA circles.
How did we not have a CLUE that Hilly Kristal, the owner of CBGB's in New York City lost his battle to cancer on August 28th? We spoke of the closing of CBGB's HERE last October.
Thanks again Hilly for all you did to give the great punk bands of our time a venue to showcase their talents.

SOMEONE PLEASE GET A CLUE!

Kiddies... THIS MAN HAD A CLUE!
Growing up, one of our favorite games was CLUE. We loved trying to deduce whether it was Mr. White, in the kitchen with the wrench, Mrs. Peacock in the kitchen with the rope or maybe Professor Plum in the conservatory with the candlestick.
CLUEDO (CLUE in North America) is a crime fiction board game originally published by Waddingtons at their peak in the United Kingdom in 1948. It was devised by Anthony E. Pratt, a solicitor's clerk and part-time clown from Birmingham, England. It is now published by the United States game and toy company Hasbro, which acquired its U.S. publisher Parker Brothers as well as Waddingtons.
The game is set in a mansion, with the board divided into different rooms. The players each represent a character who is a guest staying at this house, whose owner, Dr. Black (Mr. Boddy in the North American version), has been found murdered. Players attempt to solve the murder. The solution to the murder requires the three components of Suspect, Weapon, and Room.
We had the video variation of the game at one point and, though we are in the minority, loved the movie, with its multiple endings.

Game of CLUE anyone?
Who had a CLUE last year at this time that we would be living in Memphis with a new job and a new life?
Who had a CLUE on Thursday that we would be on our way to Chicago today, not returning until Wednesday sometime? Not sure if we will have time for posting with our busy schedule up there, but will try to post a word or two tomorrow and on Wednesday a repeat of a very personal post.
Who had a CLUE that one email could possibly change our life and open up the door to a new and exciting adventure?
Who had a CLUE that Tiger Woods would be this incredible a golfer. Yesterday he achieved his 60th win, only two away from Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger will be playing for so many more years. He has earned over $75,000,000.00 in career earnings so far! Add to that the endorsement money and appearance bonuses and the money his new golf design firm will earn and all we can say is HOLY CRAP!
Who had a CLUE that the Tennessee could beat Jacksonville yesterday. Down to one team in the Survivor pool we are in with a partner...our other pick, Seattle did the job.
Who had a CLUE that there is a new movie coming out that sounds very much like something we went through and was chronicled in the finale of our "THE BOY FROM NEW YORK" story? The movie is "GOOD LUCK CHUCK", opening September 21st. From the movie's synopsis: Charlie can’t seem to find the right girl. Even worse, he discovers at an ex-girlfriend’s wedding that every woman he’s ever slept with has found true love – with the next guy after him. Before he knows it, Charlie’s reputation as a “good luck charm” has women – from sexy strangers to his overweight receptionist – lining up for a quickie...
OK, with us they ran back to old boyfriends and lovers, but so darn close...bwahahahahahahaha
Have a great day

We have a CLUE about ours...
I thoroughly enjoyed your post. Your take on the weekly meme is creative and unique. I think that Barry Bonds must laugh every time a report comes out about a new sighting of steroids or HGH from other players.
My Manic Monday post is up & running!
peace, Villager
Have a great trip, Bond. And try to stay out of trouble.
Happy manic Monday Bond I don't have a clue about it?
I'm really hating this Ankiel story. I've heard people say that he only took it to help him heal, then he stopped as soon as he was recovered enough to resume normal work outs and get back into baseball.
But does that make it right? It's not like someone being prescribed a steroid for a serious illness, is it?
Geeez! How did Hilly's death get passed us?? RIP Hilly.
You're on a clue question roll there my friend. LOL!
Safe travels my friend.
I read that about Hilly and was much saddened. Coming right on the heels of Tony Wilson it was like..damn. I am getting old.
Hey Ho, Hilly =)
I love watching sports, but this is getting ridiculous. I realize when the big bucks are out there, it's difficult to maintain the innocence of playing just for the joy of it, but sheesh, people! Get a CLUE! Why is so difficult to do things straight?
Speaking of, did you see that the children's hospital in Indy has renamed itself after a donation by Peyton Manning and his wife? You get your name on a hospital when the donation is substantial, but no one's talking specifics here.
I'll play a game of Clue with you. Name the whens and where, and I'm there, doll!
Clue was one of my favorite board games growing up, Bond!
Have a great week.
The turn in the Ankiel story is a real bummer...Cheers anyway Bond.
You are right about HGH and steroids really ruining sports. Especially in MLB. The owners are just as guilty, by looking the other way for what should have been banned substances they sell more seats and lots more beer when records are being chased... The best example of steroid abuse is the East Germans and their Olympic 'wins'. The land that begat the Stasi wanted the world to forget about their lousy system while cheating for their Olympic dominance...
You just have to have faith in our Tennessee Titans!!! Yup, I believe they will do better this year!!!
Have a safe trip.
SMOOCHES~
Happy Monday Vince honey.
First off: I'm not sure how I stand on HGH in the game. Surely it existed before, just in another form? I haven't been following this saga as closely as some people I know, mainly because hockey season is starting soon...yes, hockey - A REAL SPORT. Hee hee. :P
Second: I heard about Hilly - and thought you were just busy and would eventually get around to posting one of your wonderful tributes, as only you can. I'm sorry for not telling you....when you assume...will not finish, but you know.
Third: I LOVE CLUE. The board game is always so much fun, especially as adults when you incorporate alcohol....and the movie is hysterical!! To this day, it is one of my favourites. Mom & I both own the DVD.
You have a wonderful new life in Memphis...and you deserve it.
Have a safe trip honey.
SHRG
to comment or not to comment...that is the question.
I don't think using HGH is the right thing to do...but if the "playing field" was level during those years...why should the records not stand?
again I say that I think you would be very surprised to find out how pervasive the usage is...
The puppy is definitely starting to get a clue now! LOL I've never played clue, but I want to! Anyway, hope you have a great week, Bond! :)
Too many questions!
Hope you had a safe flight...
I'll bet you do! Let me know!
