So, all y’all know mom Joan and dad Vince came in for the weekend…
We had a real nice visit with them. They arrived Friday afternoon and got the grand tour of Casa Bond in Memphis, It began at about 5:01 Pm and ended at 5:01:30 – hehehe …well it ain’t that big folks…
Went to dinner and decided to bring them over to Corkys. Mom had heard about it on food TV and as any Memphian will tell you, there are some better places, but for a first visit it was a good choice.
We got seated and met our waiter who was in a “Let’s have fun” mood. He and dad shot jokes back and forth especially when dad ordered the regular rack of ribs and waiter-boy said “OH, you want the ‘girly portion’ then.”
Dad shot back wondering if our waiter had ever “served a New Yorker and didn’t get a tip!”
Saturday we were up and out to the “Italian Fest” here in Memphis. Have to tell you, sorely disappointed. First off there is a $10 charge just to get in and the food prices were not cheap at all. We checked out the “Gravy-Making” contestant tents, but it was still too early for any activity.
Did stop by the judging tent and put our name in to lead a team next year. Not too excited though as we were told that there is a waiting list and most people come back year after year….Guess they realized how good my gravy is and are afraid of me…LOL
It is the best $10 you will spend in Memphis. From the original recordings by Howlin’ Wolf and B.B. King and Elvis…to just feeling the history in the place and finally getting your picture taken with the main studio microphone used by Elvis and Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis and so many other greats…(this is the location where the infamous "Millionn Dollar Quartet" photo was taken.
Check out their SITE and make sure you click on the FREE TOUR link at the top and sit back and enjoy….
When we got off the trolley, we knocked back a pitcher of beer at Huey’s across from the Peabody Hotel and then made our way across the street to see the evening “MARCH OF THE DUCKS”
You see there are 5 ducks that live in the Peabody and every morning they march from their home on the roof, down the elevator to the fountain in the hotel lobby. There they get to swim and hang until 5:00 PM when they get marched back to the elevator and up to their penthouse home…Check out the history of the Ducks, HERE…It is pretty interesting…
We then walked over to Beale Street and did some people watching. We decided to go back toward Casa Bond for dinner and headed back.
After dinner we sat and chatted for a while before bedtime called.
Watched the Yankee/Red Sox rubber game .. Good game.
They headed out this yesterday a bit before 7:00 AM to make their way down into Georgia. They should arrive back in Boynton Beach tomorrow.
It was great seeing them…and no blood was shed! LOL

Now I've been happy lately,
thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be,
something good has begun
Oh I've been smiling lately,
dreaming about the world as one
And I believe it could be,
some day it's going to come
Cause out on the edge of darkness,
there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country,
come take me home again
Now I've been smiling lately,
thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be,
something good has begun
Oh peace train sounding louder
Glide on the peace train
Come on now peace train
Yes, peace train holy roller
Everyone jump upon the peace train
Come on now peace train
Get your bags together,
go bring your good friends too
Cause it's getting nearer,
it soon will be with you
Now come and join the living,
it's not so far from you
And it's getting nearer,
soon it will all be true
Now I've been crying lately,
thinking about the world as it is
Why must we go on hating,
why can't we live in bliss
Cause out on the edge of darkness,
there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country,
come take me home again
Got home about 10 minutes ago...still groggy from the meds they gave me to kill the pain...
Well, you know what? It is not fun when you don't have anyone real close. Reached out to my bosses and they were great as was brother Rich, all the way from San Antonio.
Off to bed...
Ouch! Kidney stone. You've had a rough go at it lately, back problems and now this. Hope you feel better soon. Take lots of pain meds until it passes.
Glad you had a good time with Mom and Dad.
I'm sure the Sun Records tour was quite an experience.
Sorry about your kidney stone and that you had to go through that alone.
Feel better.
Kisses from the Anndi and the Chicklet.
Great Post Vin...I hope you feel better soon. Cheers!!
Feel better Bond! 8( I know how you feel about not having anyone close. It's a scary & horrible feeling, but I'm glad you called your boss...and am glad it was just (I know you don't feel like it's "just") a Kidney Stone.
Rest and feel better!!
So glad you had a good visit with mom and dad.
I am one of those who have NEVER been to Sun Studios ... sounds like y'all had fun. Oh and the trolly thing... so much fun... Oh, I believe I would have taken mom and dad to Rendezvous instead of Corky's.. but that's just me... you did good...
So sorry about the kidney stone... hope you get to feeling better soon. They say that when a man passes the kidney stone that he knows what it's like to have a baby...I'll wait on your answer to that. Just get some rest and feel better soon.
SMOOCHES!
TWYLA: I am so tired of the crap... this is my wakeup call.. getting into an exercise routine and going to get back into shape and health
ANN: Yes, good times, and SUN is great..Well my first experience with something like this since moving..at least it wasn't very serious ... the kisses are welcomed...thanks so much sweet friend
MATT-MA: Thanks dude...
MAGS: TY dear Mags...I understand the "just" there were other thoughts in my head when it got excruciating... and that was not fun
DIXIE: Well, I had an appendicitis attack at 18 and this pain was as bad as that was from what I can remember...I still have to believe child birth is worse..but who knows...You can Tony need to come visit before I am here for a year darling and we will go to Sun it is just so incredible...
SMOOCHES
So great that you had a good time with your parents. I would just love Memphis.
The kidney stone sucks! I hear it is the only thing comparable to giving birth. Are they gonna laser the sucker down?
How ironic that after your parents left you were stuck calling an ambulance and taking a trip to the ER by yourself. So sorry that happened to you, Vinny. I hope you're feeling better. Being ill when you're by yourself SUCKS, doesn't it?
So sorry you are feeling bad and had that kind of scare alone. I hope they gave you good meds.
Glad you had a nice visit with your mom and dad--hope Matt can visit you soon
I have got to get to Memphis and got to these neat places!
SMOOCH
bond i love love love memphis! and i always thought corky's was the best! if there is one better tell me before we go there again.
about those trolly tracks, i "accidentally" drove up them once, see i am not the "best" driver, ha ha. you should have seen the look on the trolly driver's face when he saw me coming!
and i hope you feel better now, those stones are awful!!!
want to compare gravy honey?
smiles, bee
OW Bond. Sorry about the stones babe. I've helped my grandfather through a few bouts with those suckers. I hope the meds are good...
Sounds like mom & dad had a great time with you. ;D
Will try to remember to tune into the Doc tonight, but am going through some major shit....not worth grumbling about though.
SMOOCHES.
ooh...I have heard that kidney stones are PAINFUL. Hopefully it will pass soon...
Sounds like you had an awesome time with the parents; glad the stone didn't show up throughout that, although the company would have been nice, huh.
Kidney stones are THE SUCK!
Hope you feel better soon, hun. *Hugs*
I think I might die of atmosphere overdose at Sun. But I am thinking of doing a roadtrip to Atlanta and I plan on hitting Memphis on the way and Sun is on my list!
Now, I really want to visit Memphis, if for nothing else for ducks and Ribs.
I predicted in my head no mention of Game 2 from the weekend, Im Carnac.
Kidney stones really really suck, but at least you can take heart in the fact that even us youngsters get them, *cough* on the first *cough* day of our honeymoon *cough*
Great post. Sounds like you had a great visit with your folks. Hope all things pass well!

That is a sucky way to end a great weekend.
I think you get a pass on broken bones and kidney stones - takes more than a little dirt for those.
Take care. I like the resolve to get in shape. Start with lots of stretching. That's important, especially with the recent back trouble.
Dang! I missed the live show!
TRAVIS: Thanks bud...yes stretching is important...Remember the show is archived.. was fun tonight
Gosh! So glad you had a good time with your folks, but sorry to hear about your stones. Hope your fit and well again soon, take care now.....
Yay to the visit from the 'rents and watching the ducks!
Boo to kidney stones. I swear I have one, but it never slices through me at the doctor's office, of course, and my urine test turns up normal.
I guess one thing about me has to be normal, eh?
Hope you're doing better!
Glad you had fun with your parental units! Sorry you had to endure kidney stones, though. That sounds scary and painful. Hope you're back to your ol' self in no time!
By the way, heard you and Dr. Blogstein talking about S E X on the radio! Yes, I did! And I didn't plug my ears or anything! Oh, and one of the suggestions about picking up women made me snicker...but I'm not saying which one! LOL :P
YAY for the Cat!!!
Boo for the stone!
Hugs for the blog god!
