Veteran's Day...Thank you to all who have served our country since 1776. Our freedoms and rights are secured by these brave men and women...

Five songs, which salute our boys or make you think of the military

Please do not look for the 'let's write a song that is about kicking a**' and make a million dollars. No Toby Keith here....sorry

And finally...as always THANK YOU DAD (Korea) and THANK YOU Grandpa (WW1), I still have the flag that draped his coffin.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Sunday, June 15, 2008 14 Of Your Sparks

Y'all know my dear Dad Vince...today I honor him...

I used this slide show last year and after considering many things, have decided to use it again. The pictures truly are special to me....

They honor three men who are incredibly special to me...my grandfather Ernest "The Boss" as my dad called him, the most incredible dad in the world, Vince Sr. and the person who is the most special in my life, my son Matt.

My mom's father, who my brother and I called "Be-Bop", do not ask me why, died when we were still so very young. Grand dad Ernest lived until he was 90 or so (Dad...I am sure you will let us know his exact age).

He was a larger than life man...who came here as a child from his home in Italy. I have mentioned bits and pieces about him over the years and someday will have to do a much more comprehensive post.

Dad Vince will be 78 this year and does not look or act his age. I never remember him without a head of gray hair, which is why I never thought a second when I began to gray (though they say the hair genetics come from you mom's dad).

I did get my "Marini Belly" from him - gee thanks dad! hahaha - that is no doubt.

Dad worked in publishing for many years. I remember one year when he was at American Home they sponsored a Bar-B-Que for their clients and held it at the skating rink at Rockefeller Center...It was on the news and there was dad on TV manning a grill..how cool!

He still has the newspaper articles done for this event and someday I will try and get them to share with y'all.

He worked at Esquire Magazine for some 17 years and was the Advertising Sales Manager for many of those years. One of his friends told me of a time when Playboy was having a party at their corporate offices in Chicago and dad crashed the party. The story goes that someone came up to him from Playboy and said "Vince, ok, you crashed but can you please let some of our sales people talk to the clients here" seems he had wrangled a few of the top clients in the corner..working them for business!

That is the way I remember the story....

In 1980 both he and I were selling printing for competitors. We had many of the same clients and entertained in the same restaurant. We both had a special table and they were next to each other. On Monday he would be with client A and I would be with client B. On Wednesday he might be with client B and I would be with client A.

I would call a client and they would say "Didn't you get the Purchase Order yet?" and I would say "You mean you gave that old guy the job? How dare you!" All in good spirits.

Dad worked hard and played hard. He took brother Rich and I to Yankee Stadium for games. I remember being in Florida and going to a Marlins/SF Giants game with him (Rich is a huge Giants fan)....We were in Atlanta as a family and we got to see Willie Mays and the Giants vs. the Braves years earlier.

I have talked about the trip south when I was 16 years old. He always knew how to teach a lesson without making you feel small...well maybe a little small!

He took care of Mom Joan when she got sick and made sure she was always comfortable.

They are still in love 56 years after marrying and in a few short weeks will get in their car and begin their summer sojourn up north and then to Memphis.

I am so lucky to still have him in my life...

Today, if dad is around...give him a huge hug...if he has passed...send that hug and feel their love enveloping you.

To those of you out there who are dad's HAPPY FATHERS DAY TO YOU

Love you Dad. THANK YOU ....

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY...

UPDATE!!!!
Look what arrived in the mail from Dad Vince!

(Note: Cell phone picture alert)

Another LOOOOOONG day at work....yawwwwwwwwwwwwn

Thanks for the restful wishes folks...maybe soon...but this is my time of year...when all my material gets printed and purchase orders have to be written and pricing justified and creative reviewed and then the mailings have to be coordinated...

Spent most of today in front of the computer using the anylitical side of my brain..with a small break to review creative ideas from the agency...we will NOT discuss the stuff they presented to the client that was supposed to have a price point of $0.55/each...sheesh...some of the stuff would price out at over a dollar!

We have been absent from the bloggosphere the last two days and it appears that if we do not visit, many do not visit us...interesting...

We plan on catching up the next few days because......TA DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA...we are off on another trip....yup, you got it...another trip of working around the clock for the most part...

We leave Friday early and will be in Atlanta until late Saturday afternoon working on our large project...then onto another plane and off to Long Island...

Sunday we get a small break and get to visit Sister Lynn, BIL Kevin, niece Candice and nephew Joseph for the day and get to watch Joseph at a swim meet...

OH...and MATT will be coming out for the day...WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Monday we have to head to the plant early in the morning and then get a break, which should give us an opportunity to hook up with Doc Blogstein for lunch...that should be a blast...

Then back to work, around the clock Through Wednesday evening...

Finally, we get to take some time...after a 6:00 AM flight back to Memphis (arriving around 11:00 AM - after a stop back in Atlanta to change planes)...

When we arrive back in Memphis, we head right to Mississippi to meet with Darlin' Nancy and we will drive about 3 hours to Philadelphia, MS, where she has a trade show at the casino down there...

We have a cocktail party Thursday evening and then while she works the booth, we will get to have some relaxing fun in the casino!

We stay over Friday with a nice dinner planned and will head home on Saturday...

There is a small chance we may have to head to Chicago the next Monday for one more press approval and then our travels should be over for a while...

Are you tired from reading it? We are exhausted thinking about it!

We are taking tomorrow off from posting as today is VALENTINE'S DAY and we will be spending the evening with Darlin' Nancy (and the boys) before leaving for the week...

We hope you have someone to give a hug to...or can call and tell them how you feel...It has been a few years since this day meant anything for us, so we are excited by it...

Will be back on Monday with a post to give you an update on our travels and the day with family and the person who means more than anyone in our life...MATT!

Off to pack...Been about 3 years since we had to pack for 9 days of being away (which tells you how long it has been since we had a vacation!)

Hugs and kisses to all of you...A special VALENTINE'S DAY wish to my wonderful guests...

We will leave you with some songs of love
Now we had so many to chose from, but these touch us in so many ways...

"Wonderful Tonight" - Eric Clapton

"Something In The Way She Moves" - Beatles

"Love Song" - Loggins & Messina

"It Had To Be You" - Harry Connick

"Isn't She Lovely" - Stevie Wonder

"Can't Help Falling In Love" - Elvis Presley

"I Get The Sweetest Feeling" - Jackie Wilson

Thanks for all the wonderful comments on our 500th Post...

Now, to start off the week leading up to the sporting event that gets hyped the most of any, we present you with a video we received from Dad Vince:

Found this fun widget over at Brother Rich's "Favorite Office Time Wasters"
What is your score??? Post it in the comments...

Our best was to Level 6 - 181,252 points - 5 tries...

brought to you by TravelPod, the Web's Original Travel Blog ( part of the TripAdvisor Media Network )

This post has, all of a sudden, turned into a 'theme' post... the theme in this case is our brother...

As some of you know, Richard is assistant features editor for the San Antonio Express-News... well upon our arrival home this evening, we were thrilled to see two emails in our in box. The first is an article published on Saturday on the SA E-N website (maybe a birthday present to Richard to give him some 'inches' on the site... just kidding brother...)...

Anyway, we present it to you with this link to the story...hope you enjoy it!

And the third in this 'theme' is this link to a podcast Richard is involved with...if you are a "LOST" junkie, like we both are, you might want to check it out - a note though, we had a bit of a problem listening to it last evening. It kept stopping and starting, so we did not get the whole way through. We are planning on trying it again today from our office...

The show comes back on this week with a repeat of last season's final episode on Wednesday and then a two hour block on Thursday, the first hour being a look at the characters and the mysteries and the second hour being the first of the new season...with the writers strike still on-going, we will have at least the eight episodes that are "in the can" prior to the work stoppage...

Last evening on TurnBaby Talks, we made a bet with her friend Mr. Fabulous on the Super Bowl. It began with a small $5.00 wager and evolved into a wager where the fan of the defeated team will put a video up on their site honoring the winning team.

Stay tuned to next Monday when he will be honoring THE BIG BLUE over on his site... bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahaaha

Go on over to Travis' and wish him a HAPPY 500!

At the same time, please keep our good friend Julie's husband Jeff in your thoughts today as he undergoes an operation on his hand after a work-related injury...

OH and Happy Birthday Songbird...go wish her a big H.B.!
[birthdaycake.gif]

Let's dip into our vault of live music...this is from The Fox Theater in Denver, Colorado recorded the evening of December 13, 2000...

Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Cassidy of HOT TUNA. On this song, Jack gets to showcase his incredible bass guitar virtuoso...as Jorma states at the end, "incomparable" ... Having seen these two live more than 10 times over the years, we can attest to the fact that Jack is one of the best who has ever played the instrument.

Enjoy "Ninety-Nine Year Blues", a traditional Folk song reworked by these two masters...

STICKY POST - A Little Prayer Please

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Friday, October 05, 2007 32 Of Your Sparks

DAILY POST BELOW
THIS ONE

We did not post this earlier, as we wanted to wait to see what the results were, but yesterday Mom Joan and Dad Vince flew to NY and today dad was operated on for heart blockages. He is out of surgery already and had to have another stent put in....

This all happened in two days...he got a message from his doctor and then spoke with a friend in NY who had the chief cardiologist at St. Francis call dad and they scheduled him for today.

What you have to know is dad never flies....unless it is necessary..

We just ask all y'all to say a tiny prayer for him....

We think maybe he watched the Bruce videos too often and got too excited!

LOVE YOU DAD!

UPDATE: Dad is out of the hopsital, at sister Lynn and BIL Kevin's home for a week to recover and then will be heading home. Feels great...and loved the doctor who did the surgery!

Doc said heart is strong like BULL....

thanks all

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY
Today we honor the fathers.
Those dads we can touch
and those who are no longer with us.

If you are a father...Happy Father's Day

For me, it goes back to my grandpa, Ernest.
He was a huge man to me.
My dad called him "boss", so he was even bigger in my eyes.

[couchdivider.gif]

Dad, I love you.
Thank you for teaching me how to become a man.

Matt, I love you.
Thank you for teaching me how to be a dad.

Cool Cat Music

Well? I said WELL?
Huh, what?

Where have you been?
Would you believe we were just depressed after the Sopranos ended? Not because we were unhappy, but because we will miss it...
We really did like the ending...David Chase had left it to our imagination before and he did it again...we came into the show (BOOM) in the middle of one day in the life of the Soprano's...we left (BOOM) right in the middle of one day in the life of the Soprano's...clean, simple, complete for me...

Ummmmm like that even came close to answering our question...
Would you believe we were holding a social experiment to see if anyone missed us?

Well, do you really want to go there as only 4 people even noticed?
hummm you have a point…WAIT!...we just checked our email and more people than that noticed..

So, was it a "Social Experiment?"
Well...ummm, no...it wasn't...

That is what I thought...so...?
Would you believe that I had been kidnapped by a group of Paris Hilton lovers who were sick and tired of my snarky comments about her?

Oh Puuuuulllleazzzze....you are pulling at straws now...
OK, we were traveling on business...

You have done that before and were still around...LOOK at this place, it is a mess and seems neglected...you know that this is a two man operation..
Yes, yes, you are correct...but we have not posted before...

Maybe one day, never two without making a big announcement --- SOUND THE TRUMPETS, HE IS TO MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT..
Now, that really isn't fair is it?

If it quacks and walks and looks like a duck...
OK, moving on...

OK, this is getting indulgent now...
Probably, but maybe they won't notice...

Your guests are very intelligent people OF COURSE they will notice...
sheesh...yeah, we know that...you sure are pretty intelligent too...

Why thank you...now wait a minute... you still have not told me why...
OK OK OK...don't hurt me

I wasn't planning on it...
I just thought, ya know, we could play it up a little and we could fight you off for hours and then get all these comments because we were so brave...

But you just began to give in like a little wimp "doooooooooooon't hurt me...wa wa wa"
Well we were going to lull you into...

OK, stop...where have you been...?
Look, nothing crazy, we were traveling and then well our brain needed a rest...

Reading this, it probably still does...
HEY, you are a part of this too you know...

And that's it??? Nothing dramatic???
Hey, I tried dramatic earlier and you poo-pooed it

Poo-pooed?
Hey, our friend Anndi uses it, we can too...Well, the other thing some might want to know is that Monday Matinee is taking a rest for the summer...we need the time to concentrate on something else...

Are we done with this?
Yeah, probably...getting sort of weird letting them listen in to our conversation...have we ever done this before?

OK, I am outta here....you are out of control...
Wait...can you give me a lift?

[couchdivider.gif]

Tony Parker, he of the San Antonio Spurs is living la dolce vita right now...

In the first two games he has played a huge part in the San Antonio wins in the NBA Finals...

On July 7th he marries Eva Longoria, she of "Desperate Housewives" fame, in a big-a$$ blowout in France...YES, BIG-A$$ ...

Reports are the Wedding Cake is costing them $15,000.00

A lot of money for sure...but get this kiddies, they looked and looked and scouring the "Le Jaune Pages" for someone who could bake a Wedding Cake...Lo and behold, there was not one in the whole dang country, so it is being baked in California.

Now, to get it all the way over there across the ocean to Gay Paree they have purchased a first-class ticket for the cake. No self-respecting Wedding Cake would fly all alone to a foreign country so a staff member from Beverly Hills chef Sam Godfrey's staff will fly escort with the Wedding Cake. The two first-class tickets will cost over $20,000.00!

Almost $40,000.00 for the Wedding Cake...

HEY that takes a big bite out of the $2.5-million budget!

Yeah, like that is gonna be the limit! WOOOOOO

Where did I put my tux?

[couchdivider.gif]

Damn...need to get some WD40 for the upstairs ceiling fan...it is squeaking...

[couchdivider.gif]

End of the third quarter of game 3 of the NBA Finals...San Antonio 55 Cleveland 50...Might not go the 6 games we predicted...

[couchdivider.gif]

OH, when mom and dad came they dropped off copies of a bunch of pictures they had of Matt over the years including the pictures of his trip with gee-ma and gee-pa to DisneyWorld when he was 3.5 years old. That was a nice surprise...KISSES MOM AND DAD!

[couchdivider.gif]

OK, will you wrap it up now...you are blabbering...
OK, well since we hadn't posted we thought we would just thrown out some random thoughts...

You should have thrown them out all right...

Visit, Tour, Doc, Peace Globes & Kidney Stones

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Tuesday, June 05, 2007 24 Of Your Sparks

So, all y’all know mom Joan and dad Vince came in for the weekend…

We had a real nice visit with them. They arrived Friday afternoon and got the grand tour of Casa Bond in Memphis, It began at about 5:01 Pm and ended at 5:01:30 – hehehe …well it ain’t that big folks…

Went to dinner and decided to bring them over to Corkys. Mom had heard about it on food TV and as any Memphian will tell you, there are some better places, but for a first visit it was a good choice.

We got seated and met our waiter who was in a “Let’s have fun” mood. He and dad shot jokes back and forth especially when dad ordered the regular rack of ribs and waiter-boy said “OH, you want the ‘girly portion’ then.”

Dad shot back wondering if our waiter had ever “served a New Yorker and didn’t get a tip!”

[couchdivider.gif]

After dinner we went back to casa bond and watched the Yankees take game one from the Red Sox…good game

Saturday we were up and out to the “Italian Fest” here in Memphis. Have to tell you, sorely disappointed. First off there is a $10 charge just to get in and the food prices were not cheap at all. We checked out the “Gravy-Making” contestant tents, but it was still too early for any activity.

Did stop by the judging tent and put our name in to lead a team next year. Not too excited though as we were told that there is a waiting list and most people come back year after year….Guess they realized how good my gravy is and are afraid of me…LOL

[couchdivider.gif]

Then we went downtown and did the SUN STUDIO tour. Have done this already and have sent a few people there (including Memphians who have never been).

It is the best $10 you will spend in Memphis. From the original recordings by Howlin’ Wolf and B.B. King and Elvis…to just feeling the history in the place and finally getting your picture taken with the main studio microphone used by Elvis and Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis and so many other greats…(this is the location where the infamous "Millionn Dollar Quartet" photo was taken.

Jerry Lee, Carl Perkins (NOT Bruce Sprinsteen- hehe)
Elvis & Johnny Cash

Check out their SITE and make sure you click on the FREE TOUR link at the top and sit back and enjoy….

[couchdivider.gif]

After that we went up and did the Riverfront Loop on the trolley. It brings you all along Main Street and then down along the river and back…a nice way to see a good portion of downtown…OH and it is only $1.00 ($0.50 for seniors – what a deal!). Want to know more about the Trolley? Check it out HERE

When we got off the trolley, we knocked back a pitcher of beer at Huey’s across from the Peabody Hotel and then made our way across the street to see the evening “MARCH OF THE DUCKS”

You see there are 5 ducks that live in the Peabody and every morning they march from their home on the roof, down the elevator to the fountain in the hotel lobby. There they get to swim and hang until 5:00 PM when they get marched back to the elevator and up to their penthouse home…Check out the history of the Ducks, HERE…It is pretty interesting…

We then walked over to Beale Street and did some people watching. We decided to go back toward Casa Bond for dinner and headed back.

After dinner we sat and chatted for a while before bedtime called.

[couchdivider.gif]

Sunday was a lazy day overall. Mom and dad did a movie mid-day and then came back to a nice pasta dinner.

Watched the Yankee/Red Sox rubber game .. Good game.

They headed out this yesterday a bit before 7:00 AM to make their way down into Georgia. They should arrive back in Boynton Beach tomorrow.

It was great seeing them…and no blood was shed! LOL

[couchdivider.gif]

We'll be dragging THE COUCH over to
Doc's
RADIO HAPPY HOUR
tonight at 9:00 PM EDT

Tomorrow is PEACE GLOBE DAY #3…If you do not have a globe, get over to MIMI’s and do it NOW….

PEACE TRAIN
Cat Stevens
Composer: Cat Stevens

Now I've been happy lately,
thinking about the good things to come

And I believe it could be,

something good has begun

Oh I've been smiling lately,

dreaming about the world as one

And I believe it could be,

some day it's going to come

Cause out on the edge of darkness,

there rides a peace train

Oh peace train take this country,

come take me home again

Now I've been smiling lately,
thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be,

something good has begun

Oh peace train sounding louder

Glide on the peace train

Come on now peace train

Yes, peace train holy roller

Everyone jump upon the peace train

Come on now peace train

Get your bags together,

go bring your good friends too

Cause it's getting nearer,

it soon will be with you

Now come and join the living,

it's not so far from you

And it's getting nearer,

soon it will all be true

Now I've been crying lately,

thinking about the world as it is

Why must we go on hating,

why can't we live in bliss

Cause out on the edge of darkness,

there rides a peace train

Oh peace train take this country,

come take me home again

[couchdivider.gif]

Well, after finishing this, we had a bit of a scare. went into a fit of fierce sharp pain in our left back and abdomen. After trying to "rub some dirt on it and walk it off", we ended up going for an ambulance ride to the hospital to be diagnosed with our first Kidney Stone.

Got home about 10 minutes ago...still groggy from the meds they gave me to kill the pain...

Well, you know what? It is not fun when you don't have anyone real close. Reached out to my bosses and they were great as was brother Rich, all the way from San Antonio.

Off to bed...
