I will have some photos from the BIG EVENT in a post later this week.
Tonight on Music On The Couch, I get to chat with Joel DaSilva and Andy Poxon.
Joel DaSilva has blues running through his veins. Born and raised in Chicago, DaSilva hails from a musical family.
Joel joined his first band at 18 and after a while formed Joel DaSilva & The Midnight Howl and has been winning fans ever since.
I will sit with Joel and discuss his career and his debut album, Joel DaSilva & The Midnight Howl.
Then Andy Poxon will take his seat on The Couch.
The 17-year old singer/guitarist has been performing around the MD-VA-DC-DE area since 2008.
In 2010, Andy received Wammie nominations for Best New Artist of the Year, Best Debut Recording, and Best Blues/Traditional R&B Recording. Andy is currently enrolled in Towson University, in the Jazz Guitar/ Commercial Music degree program.
His album Red Roots is chock full of great tunes and we will share them with y'all
"Musicians You Should Know"
Lots O Stuff happening in the world last week.
While in Florida, the news was dominated by the uncalled for shooting of Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman. Trayvon wasn't doing anything besides walking home with a bag of Skittles and some iced tea in his hands.
Zimmerman is defending his actions behind the Florida Stand Your Ground law. Let's look at the Statute on the books in Florida:
The fact that he was not even charged by the Sanford Police is odd to me. An African American kid wearing a hoodie is now dead.
Zimmerman has contended that he was on his way back to his SUV after following Trayvon when he was attacked. Police found Zimmerman with a bloody nose and blood on the back of his head. His lawyer says Zimmerman's nose was broken.
On the 911 call the dispatcher told him NOT to follow Trayvon. Why would he continue to do so?
If this was about them getting into a fight, you can not tell me that the Stand Your Ground law justifies shooting in that incident...with a 17-year old boy?

2011 Florida Statutes CHAPTER 776 JUSTIFIABLE USE OF FORCE
776.012 Use of force in defense of person.—A person is justified in using force, except deadly force, against another when and to the extent that the person reasonably believes that such conduct is necessary to defend himself or herself or another against the other’s imminent use of unlawful force. However, a person is justified in the use of deadly force and does not have a duty to retreat if:
(1) He or she reasonably believes that such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another or to prevent the imminent commission of a forcible felony; or
(2) Under those circumstances permitted pursuant to s. 776.013. (776.013 Home protection; use of deadly force; presumption of fear of death or great bodily harm.)

One more thing...Peyton Manning to the Broncos. Curious.
Seems John Elway is a great salesman. Thought Peyton would go to a warmer climate or a dome stadium...or a team that had a better set of receivers.
But the repercussions of his signing sure are fun, no?
Tim gets traded to the NY Jets...and then there is a snag...and then the trade is done...and another little snag...and then done.
Oh yeah, those wacky Jets, who had just given their QB an extension...but Tebow is only a back-up you see...
Sureeeeeee... in NY, they also have a bridge to sell you!
And that wasn't even the biggest NFL story of the week...talk about marketing your brand!

Trading for Tebow is a really strange move for the Jets even by Jets standards.
