Tuneage Tutelage - New Music Monday....

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Monday, March 02, 2009

Let's start by saying that JULIE of "Julie's Jewels & Junque" should watch her mailbox for the Chris Huff CD North Cathedral Way and JOHN H of "Altjiranga Mitjina" should watch his mailbox for Patti Rothberg's Double Standards. Hope you both enjoy!

This week we offer up Kalliopi. A pop-rock singer/songwriter from the country of Greece.

She released a CD single a few years back entitled Around The World which included a version of the Dusty Springfield song "Summer Is Over". The CD was re-released in 2008 with an original song "Naked" taking the place of "Summer Is Over".

Currently, Kalliopi is traveling between London & Athens working on her new album which will have 11 original songs.

This young woman lists many influences, including Madonna, U2, Blondie, Joan Jett, Garbage, David Bowie, Sting, and The Rolling Stones.

Kalliopi has worked as a professional singer from piano restaurants and hotels singing jazz, Latin and Greek music to groovy clubs and live venues singing pop hits, disco and dance.

We have an EP that includes three songs. We will let you hear one of these, the aforementioned "Naked" and one from the PR site not included on the EP called "Yoo Hoo Hoo".

Let us know in the comments section of you would like to receive the full EP and remember to vote whether you enjoy her or not....That is what Tuneage Tutelage - New Music Monday's are ALL ABOUT!

13 Of Your Sparks

  1. DrillerAA Says:
  2. I do like the second number better than the first, but I don't think I'd make this a regular stop on my play list. The second song sounds a little like something you might hear from Norah Jones.

  3. Liz Hill Says:
  4. I didn't vote in the poll because I didn't think the choices fit what I have to say about her. I really like her voice which I think is wasted on these two songs. The first song is a pleasant enough song but the mix has buried her voice.

I like the verses on the second song more---you get more of a chance to hear her--the chorus is annoying though.

So I like her--I'd like to hear her do other things.

  5. Jay Says:
  6. Well, I voted "Not my taste" because I'm not really into pop music. But, on the other hand, she is kinda cute and she sings about being "Naked." So she does have that going for her. ;-)

  7. Ken Says:
  8. I like her name best!
    I voted Not Bad.

  9. Dana Says:
  10. Like Turnbaby, I think she's got a great voice, but the music is really not my "thing." A little too common, which I think is unfortunate as I think she has amazing talent!

  11. Dana Says:
  12. Oh! And one more thing!

I must have missed the post where I was selected for the Raphael Saadiq CD, but it is FABULOUS - not a bad track on it!

  13. Tug Says:
  14. I don't know...something about this just didn't work for me. Can't put my finger on it, but the voice/music keys were a little off.

Maybe it's me...it's been one of those days. ;-)

  15. I like the second one much more than the first. And she probably wouldn't like it much but I would say WAY more No Doubt than Garbage. Shirley Manson is a tall order to go up against.

  16. Travis Cody Says:
  17. I agree with Turn. This gal's voice is very soft and soothing. I didn't really care for the songs, but I like Kalliopi's voice.

  18. I almost didn't play Yoo Hoo Hoo after listening to the first track. Glad I did though. I think it has a better representation of her potential.

  19. TopChamp Says:
  20. I chose love her coz I think she sounds good - but it hasn't registered my vote somehow I don't think. Weird.

I did you a thank you post by the way - did you see?

  21. John Holland Says:
  22. Wow, thanks for the cd! I really like Patti so I will really enjoy this cd. I've come close to buying it now you've saved me the expense. :)

A case of synchronicity of you mentioning Dusty Springield and my talking about her in my post.

I have to agree with the majority. She has a nice enough voice but it really doesn't do anything for me. Like Starr says I really don't see Garbage in her style or sound. Nice enough, but I think I'd pass.

  23. Julie Says:
  24. I like her name....that's it! Thanks for sharing though! The phrase...."like a box of chocolates" comes to mind when checking out your picks for the week.
