Ruby Tuesday and More...

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Tuesday, March 03, 2009

OK, so all my travel is done (for a while anyway), so I can get back into the swing of visiting your sites and answering your comments here on THE COUCH.

A little about this past weekend...

The Pearl River Resort Casinos has fallen a long way since last year when Nancy and I visited. A new Chief has been 'elected' and we heard/read numerous complaints about the slots being way too 'tight'. I didn't really play any, so it is hard for me to comment.

I can tell you the customer service is crap now...we had a very rude woman upon check-in and when checking out, Nancy had to make a complain about the room rates, which were not as she was quoted. It was eventually worked out, but the hassle was more than it was worth.

There are two casinos, the Silver Star, where we stayed, and the Golden Moon. Business is so off that the Golden Moon is now only open on the weekend. So you would think they would be stressing better customer service and more chances of winning to draw more customers...Nope...Nope...

The food in the restaurant we ate in Saturday was average at best, and the prices called for more than average.

I did play in the Texas Hold-em Tournament Friday afternoon and came in 17th out of 60 players. Not great at all. The hand that killed me was a straight and on the river, the winner of that hand pulled a flush! HECK-A-DOODLE!

I did play earlier in the day and I flopped a full house 7's over 4's and lost - again on the River - when my opponent ended up with a Full House Aces over 4's...man was I silently screaming HECK-A-DOODLE...but overall it was a real pleasant 2 days with my love...

As you all might know, Memphis had more snow on Saturday - Saturday night than it has had in almost 50 years! A full 6" of the white stuff fell. Of course for a native New Yorker that is nothing...but like, everything was closed on Sunday and even some schools were closed on Monday!

For RUBY TUESDAY, we will share a picture I grabbed on my cell phone. This is the sphere at the top of the Golden Moon. Supposedly, they are putting in a Blues Club up there very soon...well, if they don't treat their customers right, what are they expecting???

As I look at it, it is not a great picture, but HECK-A-DOODLE, there is some red in it...the coloration of the side of the Silver Star.

I promise to get more involved in this and ROGER'S Creative Photo Contest as the weeks go by...

19 Of Your Sparks

  1. Schmoop Says:
  2. Lost with a Full House? Man, I would have been thinking more than just, "Heck a Doddle". Cheers Vinny.

(Ryno looooves the CD. Thanks again!!)

  3. Bud Fisher Says:
  4. Sounds like you made the best of a situation with a tad few to many obsticles...

  5. DrillerAA Says:
  6. Wow, why am I not surprised that there is a reality tv school? Although I am a little miffed that it's not in LA.
Sorry that the week-end didn't live up to last year's experience, but sometimes things just don't live up to our expectations. No matter, you were with the one you love and that's the important thing.

  7. Travis Cody Says:
  8. You'd think there would be a resurgence of good customer service habits and awareness these days.

Glad to hear you made it through the travel weeks.

  9. I'm with Travis, you would think they would up the ante so to speak. I would send an email to the management. They need to know that their employees are not helping their bottom line. Casinos only make bank if there are asses in the seats.

Oh and I LOVE Flight of The Concords!!!

  10. Tug Says:
  11. It really is sad that good customer service is the exception rather than the rule any more, isn't it.

  12. Jay Says:
  13. Customer service can be shockingly bad in casinos. Which is pretty amazing considering that they are a service industry and have so much competition. But good customer service is pretty hard to come by just about anywhere these days.

  14. MATT-MAN: Glad he is enjoying!

BUD: You do what you have to I guess.

DRILLERAA: I guess you always look for the same greatness and it is not always possible.
You thinking of going to that school?

    TRAVIS: Exactly my friend.

STARRLIGHT: I have considered doing so...though not sure the Chief gives a crap.

TUG: Incredibly sad and infuriating also.

JAY: That is just so wrong...do people think their jobs are safe? If so, many are in for a rude awakening.

  15. Patti Says:
  16. Heck-a-Doodle! I agree it is difficult to find good customer service these days.

When someone is rude to me, I get extra-nice and smiley at them. I hope that makes them feel guilty. :-D

  17. Dana Says:
  18. I'm with Matt-Man, Heck a Doddle - even in all CAPS - wouldn't have been my word of choice!

  19. we have poker tonight. i hate to get "rivered out!"...

    smiles, bee
    xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

  20. PATTI: I am not sure that even works anymore

DANA: LOL...well it might not have been mine to be honest

BEE: It does not make me happy either...

  21. John Holland Says:
  22. Welcome back. It's always nice to come home after traveling.

  23. Ralph Says:
  24. The golden moon reminds me of the old logo in the Universal Pictures logo (before they went to Saturn). Remember the UNIVERSAL PICTURES that kept turning around the orb before the credits started...That memory reminds me of the great actors under contract to Universal, like Robert Mitchum and Janet Leigh...

Snow is that snow is. We don't often think of frozen precip in the South, but the worst ice storm I have ever driven in was on I-40 between Knoxville and Nashville, 200 miles of expecting to end up in the median like most of the drivers that landed there. At least your snow in the home of Sun Records melts faster than up North...

  25. ...seventeenth out of sixty don't sound too shabby...any time spent with a good woman is worth whatever it costs...glad you had some fun!

  26. Julie Says:
  27. You can always find some good in time spent with Nancy!

  28. katherine. Says:
  29. it seems many places are losing their edge...especially in customer service...

glad you got to get away together...

  30. RW Says:
  31. Good your back sorry ya got flushed out in the poker tournament! That's a bad beat but 16 place in a tourney aint bad, how far did it pay down to in the money? Good show tonight and thanks for mentioning CP!

  32. Happy Ruby Tuesday Vinny! Thanks for participating! :)
