Tuesday Tidbits

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Tuesday, January 06, 2009

Nancy & I want to thank all y'all for your wonderful comments yesterday. She was traveling all day, but tried to sneak peeks throughout the day and was as touched as I by your outpouring of support and love...

With everything going on this week, I forgot about RED SIGNS for the "Ruby Tuesday" assignment...pout...

Go check out the cool entries by clicking on the photo above and I promise to be back in the swing by next week!

Our most excellent friend, Queen Of The Memes, Goddess Of The PeaceGlobes, MIMI of "Mimi Writes" sent me this information the other day.

I thought it was a very cool idea and immediately smacked myself in the head and said "HECK-A-DOODLE, why didn't I think of this!"

It's called The Bloggers Album Project, and it was started by a gentleman named Robert Rouse, the host of the blog "Left Of Normal".

Here is what he says on the site:
I started the Blogger Album Project to discover how diverse - or collective - the Blogosphere is when it comes to taste in music. So far, the choices are interesting - to say the least! Many great albums - most I have owned - some I have never heard of, but will check out because of this list.

Send a list of your seven favorite albums (those are like large black compact discs to those of you who do not remember turntables before scratching), along with a link to your blog. I am hoping we can eventually have more than 1000 selections - the current total stands at 378 Album choices.

I have already sent in my 7 albums...can ya guess them? You might have an idea of the bands, but the albums?

Well, this was my 7...
Fillmore East - Allman Brothers
Grateful Dead (Skull & Roses) - Grateful Dead
Aqualung - Jethro Tull
Layla & Other Assorted Love Songs - Derek & The Dominoes
First Pull Up Then Pull Down - Hot Tuna
Uprising - Bob Marley
Where We All Belong - Marshall Tucker

I was actually surprised that only one of these was on the list as of my sending my email. As of today, he has not updated the site.

Check it out...a very cool idea...how come I didn't think of it???? DOH...

So, look what our fly-fishing, water delivering, picture-taking, nature watching friend ROGER from "Idaho Daily Photo" and "Creative Photo Contest" awarded me with over the holiday...

Van Gogh's Ear Award

Well, this is what Roger said on his post:
Inspiration of the Van Gogh's Ear Award
You may know the story of Vincent Van Gogh a well known artist in history. Although a brilliant painter in his later years went quite insane he received the nickname of fou roux ("the redheaded madman"). The most bazaar of Vincent's behavior is when he cut off the lower part of his own left ear lobe, which he wrapped in newspaper and gave to a prostitute named Rachel in the local brothel, asking her to "keep this object carefully. After this he suffered recurrent bouts of mental illness, which led to his suicide July 29, 1890 he was 37 years old. His works of art are priceless.

The point of this award
We are all artist in are own way be it art, photography, writing, philosophy, comedy, blogging and we all go a little crazy sometimes. But if you ever feel so crazy to cut off your ear and give it to a prostitute "Seek Help"!

Always remember you're unique.
Just like everyone else.

Isn't that the coolest? Roger has a way of cutting to the essence of why we are all here...why we all met on this mass of light waves...

I have had bloggers tell me, 'but I am not really a writer'...anyone who takes the time to sit down in front of a keyboard and a monitor and craft some words together is a writer. The words can be misspelled...the grammar can contain errors...the subject matter might even turn people off, but you are still writing.

Then there are those (myself included on occasion), who share our visions of the world through the lens of a camera.

Rogers hits the nail on the head with the last statement...

Always remember you're unique.
Just like everyone else.

And, personally, I would like to say THANK GOD FOR THAT!

And THANK YOU ROGER for allowing me to fly Van Gogh's Ear on The Couch.

Before Joe Jackson screwed up his family of children by making them all pop stars and thus sending them in search of psychologist couches all over the country, Roebuck "Pops" Staples formed the group, The Staple Singers, an American gospel, soul, and R&B singing group. The group included his children Cleotha, Pervis, Yvonne, and Mavis.

In 1971 they had the first of two songs that reached #1 on both the Billboard Hot 100 (1 week) and the Billboard Hot Soul Singles (4 weeks) charts. "I'll Take You There" spent 15 weeks on the charts in total...

ENJOY....

  28. Lend me your ear..haha. That Roger is the best. He does know how to cut to the chase and get down to the essence of keeping it real.
Three ears are better than two, I guess.

We are on a mass of light waves? Wow. Cool.

I can't believe that song is from 1971. Shudder. That was so long ago!

  29. Travis Cody Says:
  30. Love me some Staples Singers.

Now I didn't guess the exact albums, but I should get a bit of credit for guessing that you'd have Allman Bros and Hot Tuna. The Marley was a bit of a surprise, but not the rest.

I need to get a list together and join in.
