Yesterday was a day to honor an American hero. One whose life was cut short by a man who oozed hatred from every pore of his being.
Today we celebrate the Inauguration of the 44th President Of The United States. A man who has lived a life unlike any other President before him.
Godspeed Mr. Obama. I put my faith in your ideology. In the promises you made during your campaign. I have not been pleased the last 8 years and I am ready change. I am ready to hold accountable those who have benefited from the pain of others. I am ready to hold accountable those who believe that living above your means is a right and flaunt their arrogance by not accepting their debt.
I yearn for a new attitude by all. It is not going to be easy. Even now some talk of a "coronation" and not an Inauguration. They will not climb aboard the train easily, if at all, but I believe we can eventually bring them on board.
It will take honesty and integrity and humility and it will take compromise. We can not now disenfranchise those who do not think as we do. That is what has been done to many over the last eight years.
The only way for this to work is for those who are now in power to embrace their detractors. Honestly, I think more than ever, it is time for the American people to come together and realize that we are all citizens of the same country.

Well, I've made my thoughts on Obama known in the past, but will support him and my country as I have the past 8 years. You see, I think my country deserves support whether I agree with the Presiden't policies or not. Unfortunately, I don't think that is the case for everyone.

The comment thing - I thought maybe I was over-reacting. Vinny, I'd love to support your New Music Monday and will attempt to remember (you can even remind me if you want) to put a little blurb on my Monday posts. Had it been anyone else who left that comment on my blog I'd have deleted it, but because it was you - and I think I know your intent - I left it.
It's that fine line between acceptable self promotion and feeling like one has no control over their blog.

DANA: Actually that comment was addressed to those individuals who look to bankruptcy to solve their problems and I guess that includes the bailout which I believe was wrong.

Well the mortgage bailouts are helping the banks and mortgage companies who made crappy loans to people who couldn't pay for them--there's mutual blame there. And most of them are concentrated in a few states. It's not like this is some sort of wealth redistribution that's trickling down---it's taking taxpayer's money and throwing it up. It's going to the same people that have had the wealth so it's not redistributing it. They screwed up and now they are getting bailed out.
And I've always supported my country---I think it is unpatriotic to be unquestioning of leadership when you see it going horribly wrong. And I won't stop anytime soon.

Like Matt said yesterday, we've settled for mediocrity for so long, that is has become the new standard of excellence.
Unfortunately, breaking free of that standard means we need to get off our asses and work hard to change things. And that scares some people. For some it is the fear of failure. For others, it is the fear of success. Either way, fear can be crippling, and this nation has been crippled long enough.
Oh, and about the link? I say link away! It's a good shortcut for lazy friends like me who don't do a plug in a post. *grin*
I'm ready to put the last 16 years of divisiveness and "he's not MY President" shit behind us. I hope we can.

Just wanted to stop by and congratulate you and your fellow Americans on the inauguration of your new President. Regardless of political leanings, I think that the majority of you would agree that it was time for a change. I have great hopes for Mr. Obama and anticipate positive things to come for your wonderful country.
Now, a shameless personal plug (I hear it's the "in" thing these days :D) ... I am about to go back into blogging. Don't run there yet, but I have been working on some fiction that I will be posting as soon as I get it all typed out (yes, I am that slowwwwwwwww :P) I've missed it and I think it helps center me to be writing again. Still haven't listened to yesterday's music - doctor & scripts kinda kicked my butt - I'll try again tonight.
It is fitting that yet another peaceful transfer of power has taken place, as always in the USA. The whole world sees that the change is orderly...not like say, 1917 and the Bolshevik revolution where the losers were eliminated. The difference between the USA and the old USSR...
As others noted, I did not vote for him but he has my support and prayers. The election is over...and we all need to find that common ground, or at least enough commonality to effect change on all things that need that!

Lovely post, Bond. I watched the entire ceremony at my desk and cried like a baby. I was never one of the early hardcore Obama supporters, mostly because I get suspicious of what can look like blind worship...on either side of the aisle. It's like trying not to hold Radiohead responsible for their fans!
That said, I think anyone who is not cognizant of the history that was made today is sorely lacking in insight. Obama strikes me a very pragmatic man as well as inspiring. And very very bright.
His speech drummed into the national conscious over and over that it is time for personal responsibility and the need for us to work harder as a country FOR our country and not merely for a flat screen tv.
My great grandparents and my grandparents worked hard. Harder than I think their boomer offspring will ever realize.
I think the time has come for us to realize that we are once again at a Boot Strap precipice in this country.
And I sure hope that folks realize that when our children, grand kids and great grandchildren look back and talk about us to their kids, it would be far greater to have it be about our hard work and sacrifices for country and family than about our possessions and baubles.

Beautifully written post as well as Starrlight's comment. I watched TV all day today and cried tears along with everyone else. I have been inspired by Our New President. Yes, we will have to work hard as a country, as a people. "One Nation Under God."
God said things would not always be easy, but He did say it would be worth it.
