few weeks back, Nancy and I visited the Zoo here in Memphis. I know some people do not like Zoos, but I do.
And especially this one, since this is where Nancy and I had our first date. Well, we became members on this last trip, so we plan on visiting often. Hey, walk around a zoo all afternoon - it is a good workout. Plus they have special nights just for members and all, and heck-a-doodle, membership for the two of us is less than two visits including the parking!
So, anyway they are running a photo contest, where your photo could be selected for use in the 2011 calendar, plus a membership for the season. There are 12 different categories and you can enter one photo into each.

So, anyway...I want to go back this weekend, because submissions are due by Sunday.
Here are some of my favs so far. I do have others to cover almost all the categories, but I am not happy with most of those - but you see I have MONKEYS covered. (all BIGGIE by clickie)
Start with a waterfall shot

I must admit, I'm not a huge zoo fan, but the grand crew and a camera make any outing more fun.
I haven't been to a zoo in ages. I take the turnoff to the Seattle Zoo every morning for my commute. Perhaps we'll go this summer. The walking can be a bit much for me though.
Sorry I had to bug out last night. You know how stuff comes up.
...that turtle may have won the race, but he don' look too happy about it!...
DRILLER: I love the zoo
TRAVIS: It is a nice relaxing afternoon and I am sure there are plenty of benches to sit and cuddle when you need
PHFRANKIE: He was looking for some food!
I was a member of he zoological society in San Diego for many years. Not here in Nebraska however. We have not been to the zoo in the two years we have lived here. Perhaps we will this year. I like the photos you show here.
As long as I think the animals are being taken care of, and they're not kept in really tiny little cages, then I'm generally okay with zoos.
Lots of great photos!
Good luck Vinny! Absolutely *heart* the waterfall pic!
And if you get on a calendar you do know you'll have to buy about 50 copies and autograph them, right??
I like the wonder of a zoo, the views of nature we don't see. Not to begrudge our house cat, but a zoo with the BIG cats is a treat. We cannot be remotely ready for a real jungle, so the sights and sounds in a zoo will just fine.
That crude flaunting simian has no sense of decorum or propriety...
Well he certainly IS flaunting them! Great pics! I'm a big fan of the waterfall one, too!
Very nice! Love the lazing around photo, good luck!
Wish I was closer to the Denver Zoo, I'd probably go more.
TECHNO: Thanks I love the ability to shoot the animals with my camera
JAY: It would appear the Memphis Zoo does a good job
DANA: Just 50? whew LOL
RALPH: But Ralph, he can't help it!
RLL: Thanks so much
TUG: Thanks...you should take a day trip
My husband is not a zoo fan, but he knows that the kids and I are, so when we go to a new city, we try to make one of our visits the zoo. I wish we had time to visit the National Zoo when we're in Washington next month; the kids would love it, but there just isn't enough time.
Great photos!
I arose from my Queen bed to view the monkey pictures. Awesome!!
**back under the covers now**
Thank you for brightening my day.
