The main subject of this post was going to be the story below. Then I heard about the tragic death of a young man who played for the Anaheim Angels of Los Angels.
The story of Nick Adenhart appears to be another death that could have been avoided if people would just not get into their cars after drinking, and, if all of the early reports are accurate, the need for our justice system to get some b**ls when it comes to those who endanger others with their selfish, moronic actions...

Los Angeles Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart and two others were killed by a suspected drunk driver Thursday, a shocking end to the life of a rookie who had overcome major elbow surgery to realize his big league dreams.
The accident in neighboring Fullerton occurred hours after the 22-year-old pitcher made his season debut with his father in the stands, throwing six scoreless innings against the Oakland Athletics. The Angels ultimately lost the game, 6-4.(READ THE REST HERE)
According to other news sources, (the person)* responsible "will be booked on “felony hit and run, felony DUI, vehicular manslaughter and possibly murder,” according to authorities.
(the person)* was reportedly drinking and driving with a suspended license due to a prior DUI, when he fled the scene. He was quickly arrested after the tragic incident.
Our sympathies go out to Nick's family, friends, teammates and fans...

She told him a fan in her section had bought her two season tickets for the rest of the year, even picked her up every game and took her home. And Hall thought, Why don't we do this for our fans? So sad about Nick Adenhart's death...Too many times the drunk driver gets off easy, I hope this time they through him under the jail..Let's hope he gets more than a slap on the wrist......
YEA Arizona Diamondbacks...I wish more teams would do that. Have a great Easter weekend.
It is truly tragic that Nick Adenhart lost his life in that manner, but I'm quite frustrated with this story. There were two other "normal" people who died as a result of that accident, and it seems they are invisible to the rest of the world because they weren't Nick Adenhart - they were just folks like you and me.
Sorry Vinny - didn't mean to rant - but a life is a life and it bothers me when we prioritize whose is more worthy of mention based on their "value" to society.
I usually try to find the bright side in everything, to me everything happens for a reason... but a senseless death from a DUI, I can never understand that. They are so preventable. What a tragedy for that pitchers family. My heart goes out to them, especially at Easter. Senseless.
No Cd yet, but our mail is usually kind of slow coming from so far away. Can't to give a listen to it. Gonna load it on the ipod for my upcoming trip into Cheesteak Ville, I mean Phila for the week next week. :)

That Nick Adenhart is heartbreaking. This is why I truly am for the death penalty for drunk driving homicides. Its totally senseless and avoidable. The choice to drive drunk is the most disgusting, selfish choice you could make.

I hadn't heard this news. What a senseless tragedy. Sympathies and prayers to all the families. This just makes me sick.
The paying it forward scholarships are AWESOME. These are dark days, indeed, but this is a bright bright spot of hope.

The professional sports teams make themselves a part of the community through philanthropic actions like the D-Backs are doing. The long term payoff in support, both financial and general good-will is tremendous.
The Adenhart death is terrible, but I also feel a bit like Dana does about these things.
So sad how one so young can die like that. my condolences to his family and friends.

This is some of your best work. While I knew the details surrounding Nick Adenhart, you tribute was very well done. Happy Easter!
Too often drunk driving is not treated as seriously as it should. How many times have we read about someone being injured or killed by a drunk driver and find out that the driver has already had an arrest for drunk driving or even has had his/her ticket pulled, but is still driving anyways. The driver that hit Stephen King was a repeat offender. But until we make the law have some more serious consquences for driving drunk, we'll continue to read these type of stories. It's really quite sad.
I've always thought that the Diamondbacks's organization was a good one.
And all the articles I've seen about the accident do mention all of the lives lost. I considered the focus on young Mr Adenhart to be the representation of 3 promising young lives cut short. My sympathies go to each of the families.
I am glad they are bringing up the drunk driver who killed Nick Adenhart up on charges.

I heard about the baseball player, that is so very sad. And I can understand where Dana is coming from but on the other hand a celebrity is always going to get more press simply because they impact a wider audience than us common folks. I don't hold that against them otherwise I would have to feel like an ass for crying over Lennon.
