This Week:
"Tools Of The Trade"
What is in my kitchen...

Well HECK-A-DOODLE...On Friday I hit my 800th post...and according to my counter some 86,000 people have sat on The Couch since I kept track of that....man, that means that each day like 800,000 people come here!

And a double HECK-A-DOODLE because I never noticed that I had run out of CDs to review for New Music Monday! I requested some more music and should have some to get going again next Monday.

So, here is some news and then a fun meme...

The video for Mat Kearney’s “Closer To Love”, the first single from his upcoming album City of Black & White, can now be viewed on the recently re-launched MatKearney.com. Filmed in Kearney’s hometown of Nashville, TN, the video, as Kearney explained to AOL’s Pop Eater blog, is about the “…theme of an unexpected phone call -- 'I guess we're all one phone call from our knees’. The video deals with reaching out to someone who got that call.”

OK, my friend BRAD from "Pointless Drivel" and otherwise known as the biggest Kentucky Wildcat Fan this side of the Atlantic Ocean, did this recently on his Face Book account. He then challenged me to do it and I told him I would...so here we go...

This is my top 10 best opening lyrics ever...

I am going to start with two that Brad had on his list...hell, they are great!

“Please allow me to introduce myself. I’m a man of wealth and taste.”
“Sympathy for the Devil” The Rolling Stones

“In the day we sweat it out on the streets of a runaway American dream.”
“Born to Run” Bruce Springsteen

"I had a hard run, running from your window."
"Bertha" Grateful Dead

"Ain't but one way out baby, lord I just cant go out the door."
"One Way Out" Allman Brothers

"And the sign said long haired freaky people need not apply."
"Signs" Five Man Electric Band

"I have finally found a way to live just like I never could before."
"Presence Of The Lord" Eric Clapton

"mmmmmmmmmm, The closer you get the better you look baby."
"Sweetest Feeling" Jackie Wilson

"Pretty woman walkin down the street"
"Pretty Woman" Roy Orbison

"I was once out strolling one very hot summer's day"
"Spill The Wine" War

"The dance of the puppets, the rusted chains of prison moons are shattered by the sun"
"In The Court Of The Crimson King" King Crimson

The classic album version, not the edited down radio version...

23 Of Your Sparks

  1. Schmoop Says:
  2. One of the best opening lines ever comes from a country song of all things...

"She put him out, like the burning end of a midnight cigarette..."Pure genius from Bill Anderson of all people, and sung by Brad Paisley and Allison Krauss, Whiskey Lullaby is a great frickin' tune. Cheers!!

  3. DrillerAA Says:
  4. CONGRATULATIONS on post No. 800! I just passed the 300 mark and have had 30 visitors in that time frame.

Those Stones lyrics do bring back some memories. I do like that meme and may have to increase it by three in order to use it for a Thursday Thirteen. Thanks for the idea.

  5. Bud Fisher Says:
  6. Great job with th lyrics. That had to take some time! Enjoy the day!

  7. Travis Cody Says:
  8. That's a pretty cool meme. I didn't know the King Crimson.

  9. ...I do believe the Grateful Dead lyric is a tad more ribald that that, Sir...what a killer meme!!!...

  10. Brad Says:
  11. Wow...a Five Man Electric Band reference...very bold indeed, my friend!

  12. John Holland Says:
  13. Congrats on the 800th post. And I like the first line meme. Cool idea.

  14. MATT-MAN: That one works also

DRILLERAA: Thank you Sir...I am looking forward to seeing yours

BUD: Hell man, like you, I know the lyrics that get to me

TRAVIS: Thanks...I love me King Crimson

PHFRANKIE: You know, I always thought that was the line (the ribald one you refer to), but it has nothing to do with his manhood!

BRAD: You know I have always been a bold one

JOHN: Thank you Sir and it was fun.

  15. Jay Says:
  16. Congrats on post #800. You're only 133 posts behind me! ;-)

Cool meme. I would think it would take forever to come up with a top 10 list like that.

  17. Congrats on 800!! I think if I had actually not had a few blogs since this I'd probably be close to that too. Oh well, shoulda, woulda, coulda eh?

    Have a great day!!

  18. JAY: Thank you Sir...I will not catch up unless you stop posting!

    MIRANDA: Thank you dear...

  19. Congratulations on #800.

Some of the best lyrics ever written are opening lines, in my humble opinion.

  20. Dianne Says:
  21. 800 pearls!! cool! congrats

love the song lines - I'd have to go back and listen to every single one of my favorite songs and then start weeding it down to 10 - plus I always screw up words - hear what I want to hear ;)

heck-a-doodle!! what's this about your tool in your kitchen!? are there photos?

  22. SOUTHERN: Thank you Sir, and I totally agree

DIANNE: TY dear friend...Of course there are pictures of my tool in my kitchen!

  23. Coco Says:
  24. Congrats on the 800th post, Vinny. That's pretty huge, although I haven't figured out the math thing with the counter yet ...

What a great meme - so many great songs to choose only 10, but I think I'm gonna give it a try. Wanna take a guess at how many Van songs will make my list? :P

  25. COCO: Thank you so much...what? My math was off?

OH probably 6 out of 10!

  26. Liz Hill Says:
  27. I have been tagged for both this one and the favorite lines. I'll get there

    Congrats on 800!

  28. Dana Says:
  29. What a great meme! Unfortunately, I would be a failure with it but you did a fabulous job!

  30. Fred Says:
  31. Congrats on all the posts. Just for the heck of it, I checked mine and the total is 130. That's pretty pathetic compared to yours.

  32. Patti Says:
  33. Great list! And since most are kinda old songs, I could relate ;-)

  34. Maggie Moo Says:
  35. Ugh! I hated when my employer blocked websites. I felt like such a baby, having them tell me what I could not look at. And yeah-some worked and some didn't. The best though was when they were working on the system and I'd randomly check blogs-and I could see everything and comment! Always made my day. Which is sad. :)

  36. TURNBABY: gee, I did not think you knew of this one! LOL THANKS

DANA: Ah hell..it is YOUR favorite lines...how can you fail?

FRED: TY Sir...ah it is not the count it is the quality

    PATTI: LOL..glad you could relate

MAGS: I know...It happened yesterday...I was even able to see FaceBook for about 30 minutes...

  37. I am bitter as shit about concerts right now. FRIGGIN GREEN DAY is playing Seattle. While we are in Hawaii. Dammit.

That is a great idea on the opening lines. I might have to steal that one =)
