How is this for a description of our first artist...Deep 6 Holiday is the skinned-kneed, stubborn orphan of the rock community who was raised by a pack of jazz musicians while spending too much time with its best friend’s classical music family.
With a list of influences such as Bill Evans, Radiohead, The Mars Volta, Bjork, and Stravinsky, you know you are going to get something totally different than anything else we have shared to date.
When reading the bio for Deep 6 Holiday, I was not sure I would be enjoying the music that was about to come out of my computer, but then it began and I found myself transfixed. I was a big fan of bands like ELO and ELP and of course Floyd, but this was going to be just a bit too off the ledge for me...hell, I am older...my tastes tend to run more toward Southern Rock...but one of the things I promised myself when I started this journey with the PR Firm was that everything that came my way would get a listen.
What I found with this band was a splash of Mahavishnu Orchestra, a dab of Billy Cobham, a spoonful of Tori Amos and a sprinkle of, dare I say it, Sarah Vaughn...Now you might disagree, but that is what my ears and brain came up with as I listened closely...
From their bio, we learn the following:
Comprised primarily of Tyler Azelton on piano and voice, and John Graves on bass, Deep 6 Holiday’s music tells the story of how its members fell in love, the immense hurdles they encountered along the way, and, ultimately, how they learned to embrace their imperfections and own their unique gifts as musicians and as people. This married couple had known each other since childhood, but it wasn’t until Tyler moved back to Los Angeles in 2003 that they began working together musically. “I was living in a hallway in New York,” she recalls. “My life was falling apart, so I moved back in with my parents to clean myself up.” Their connection was intense, often finding them lost in conversation at 4 o’clock in the morning, listening to their favorite artists.

Next up for today is Paul Jeffrey from West Yorkshire, UK. Paul lists his influences as Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Bryan Adams and Elton John.
He has an interesting sound, no doubt. From his bio we can learn:
Paul has been playing the piano since 8 and playing around England for over 21 years to crowds of various sizes. If there is 1 or 10,000 in the room he always plays as if every show were his last and most important. Paul is a musician’s musician; who along with the various mates that plays with him or even play songwriter, his own music is romantic and stylish.
This music is perfect for lovers. Though unassuming offstage, as soon as he gets on, and sits behind his piano it is like he is transformed; he goes from being a mild mannered Clark Kent to being a Superman of the stage. It is hard in this business to say that you are always booked at will; but
Paul Jeffery is one of the few musicians that can truly say that he has no holes in his schedule, and has no problems lining up dates. He is always booked, it can be said that he is one of the most demanded musicians in the UK and Paul likes it that way; In fact he would not have it any other way!
I am still listening to his music and find some real interesting sounds and then I feel as though I might have heard it before. But I keep coming back to listen for that something special.

My first reaction when I heard Tyler's voice was that she sounds a bit like Holly Cole.
I can hear Paul Jeffrey's influences. He's promising. Seven Shades of Grey is quite soothing and lovely. This is one case of voice matching the style quite well.
Might want to give us a "I need to hear more, but sounds promising" option for the vote.

Odd thing. Even though Jeffrey's voice is a bit rougher, I kept hearing Paul Young singing Every Time You Go Away. Maybe it was name association. Cheers Vinny!!

Jeffrey's first song was average. The second showed off his vocals much better. Talented.

I got to Deep 6 finally. They are not bad but they make me want to go listen to Lacuna Coil more than listen to them. Oh or Cocteau Twins.
I'm learning that I don;t like much of the new music nowadays. No wonder marketers don't spend money on my demographic.
I definitely like both--I can hear the influences to almost a distracting level on both as well.
I LOVE the girl's voice on Deep 6 Holiday. I feel they could be a bit too fey for their own good though.
Paul's second song was strong.
I'd like to hear more of both.

I like Paul, especially the 2nd song - I think I would like the 1st more if it was just instrumental. weird, I know. Deep 6 didn't really do anything for me, but maybe I just need to check out more of their songs.

Deep 6? Not feeling it - both songs seemed a bit too similar.
