An update on Matt and his baseball...his team played yesterday and he played first base for them, giving his legs a rest as this Friday he takes the physical exam for the Police Force. In the last inning they were up by 2 runs and their pitcher was running out of gas, so Matt went in to relieve. Bases loaded, one out. First batter he induced a pop up to the infield. Two outs. Next batter... he struck him out, ending the game and earning Matt his third save in three chances.
Man, I miss watching him play!
Also, congrats to Ken Griffey, Jr. on hitting his 600th home run. Man, if this kid could have stayed healthy he might have the most home runs of anyone by now...He has done it right. Never getting into trouble, always being a good citizen, one of the sweetest swings in the game.

This week, we will show you something I did while associated with the West Windsor Little League. Out past the center field fence on our main field was the flag pole. The pole was dedicated to a young man who had passed at the age of 13 from Leukemia. His name was Chris Ciuffani and he had been taken from us before we had moved back to NJ and Matt had joined the Little League. There was also an annual award named for Chris which was given to the 12-year old boy and girl who exemplified true love of the game and sportsmanship.
There was just the flag pole and I suggested we build a walkway out there to allow people a better opportunity to view the tribute. It was readily accepted by the Board Of Directors of the league. Then it hit me...instead of just a walkway, we could sell bricks which would be engraved, as a memory of the boys and girls who played in the league and for the coaches who teams wanted to honor. The league made very little money on the bricks, as I did not look at it as part of a "fund raiser", instead as a tribute.
This picture shows you some of the bricks on the walk, including the brick purchased in Matt's honor. When I asked him what he wanted on his brick, he came up with the inscription.

Also this week, author Michael H. Brown will tell us why “American Women are Crazy“. Brown promises that by telling us about his experiences, he’ll save men “a mountain of grief, a ton of money, and the myriad of hassles known in American marriage today.”
Will he convince Dr. B to marry a Russian woman from a catalog? Will he convince Vinny
Bond not to attempt marriage again? Will he survive the wrath of Dangerous Lee?

It's wonderful that your son has such a passion for something. There are too many people who wander through life with no passions, no loves that move their souls. How sad.
I loved baseball. As an adult, I played competitive softball until I was 40.
I really like the bricks and I like the way the engraved ones are arranged. Typically I'm not a big memorial kind of guy, but this is a nice tribute to the game and those that love it. Well done.

I just got my tix today to my final trip to the House that Ruth Built. Lower boxes between home and third, closer to home. My son Ben, his wife and my Dad are joining me. My brother(who along with my Dad hates the Yanks)got me the tix for nada. My Dad took me to my first Yanks game when you could walk on the field to cross the stadium. He hated them, but still took me to a ton of games. So I was happy when he accepted my invite to say goodbye to the place...
