Had a real fine weekend and hope you did also. Was a scorcher on Saturday. Hit about 94 and the sun was huge in the sky.
John Mayer and Columbia Records have announced the release of Where The Light Is: John Mayer Live in Los Angeles on July 1st. This 2CD, DVD & Blu-Ray package was filmed last December at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles and directed by Danny Clinch. The release includes three distinct sets: an acoustic performance, a rare set with John Mayer Trio (John Mayer, Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino), as well as a Continuum set featuring Mayer’s full-band.
Mayer will also be kicking off a two month amphitheatre tour in July, as well as being featured on the cover of Rolling Stone’s guitar issue for the second year in a row.
Mayer’s run with special guests Colbie Caillat and Brett Dennen begins July 2 in Milwaukee, WI. Mayer’s tour will now close out the summer with the addition of new dates with guests Paramore and OneRepublic. Tickets for the added dates become available with an exclusive Music Today presale beginning June 2 and will be available to the public on June 7.
For the second year in a row, Rolling Stone Magazine has featured John Mayer on the cover of their now annual “Guitar” issue – both May 2008’s “Living Guitar Legends” issue and February 2007’s “Guitar Heroes” round-up have paired Mayer with peers and icons alike.

John Mayer
"No Such Thing" - "Sweet Dreams"
Great Monday Tutelage ... looking forward to hearing "Sweet Dreams" I could use some some about now.
SMOOCH
SMOOCH...there for you
Nice music...as ususal.
The tour isn't coming anywhere near me, so I may have to invest in the CD at least.
Have a great day.
Well done as always. Have a great week Vin. Cheers!!
John Mayer is one of my son's (and my) favorites, and since he will be not far from us, I'm thinking maybe I'll make this his first concert!
DRILLERAA: The music sounds great. Enjoy your day.
MATT-MAN: You enjoy serving alcohol to the masses...
DANA: He is no where near me..can i come and you take me too?
LOL
I have seen John play live many many times. Going all the way back to the Atlanta club scenes. With, like a 5 dollar door charge. Been a fan since 2001. I was lucky enough to see him with Sheryl Crow and that was a duet for the books.
He is FRICKIN AMAZING live. And he truly deserves to be in that list of guitarists. He's the heir apparent to Stevie Ray Vaughn in my book. And lyrically he is all that and a bag of chips. On top of that, he is hysterically funny and routinely mocks...himself.
All three of his albums are woderful. Slow Dancing In A Burning Room being my favorite off of Continuum. He was of a few artists I would see each and every time he is in my area. And Bond if you have not checked out John Mayer Trio, do it.
STARRLIGHT: I am a fan, but have never seen him live. his tour only brings him as close as Atlanta to me...so doubt I will see this tour.
Ya know Bond, I would not recommend a drive in these gas gouging times for just anyone, but I am hear to tell you, he's worth it. From a pure guitar fan point of view if nothing else. He is the rare mix supreme technical competence who still plays from the soul. I loves him =)
When I first saw him in the bars I told my BF, "that boy is possessed by the spirit of SRV with a dash of Clapton and he is going to be HUGE." Then I got all smug when he did become huge =)
STARRLIGHT: Well, it is in August...so I will think on it..I do want to see him, but 700 miles r/t for a concert, with $4/gal gas...ummm could be tough...
Yup I hear ya. That is why I am doing Amtrak to Seattle
So, I'm confused... you'll review it when it comes out in July?
Chicklet and I enjoy his music... "No Such Thing" is nice driving tuneage.
Sucks he'll be in T-Dot on a Monday.
STARRLIGHT: Now that might be an option
ANNDI: I will be sent the CD/DVD closer to the release date and will then review it. And hopefully, will have one to give away also...
I bet he would be great to see in a small place! Thanks!
Great post! My son James (who is in the band So Long Davey!) introduced me to Mayer when he worked in Borders. He was living with me and got a lot of promo CDs. Have a great one!
I've been to John Mayer concert before and it was fantastic. Of course I love him anyway b/c he's a CT boy. :)
Well, he is playing right in my area. Darien, New York is only about a 40 minute drive. I may have to go and check that concert out. :-) Thanks Bond!
Hugs,
Kimmie
I'm glad to be in a place where people like John Mayer. I've seen some music snobs really dis the guy and I can't really figure out what they don't like.
I definitely like him. But dang...there's no Washington dates on this list.
He is awesome on the guitar, but I'd rather he didn't sing...is that wrong? ;-)
Awesome review Bond!
You'll probably find this odd, but I've never been much of a John Mayer fan...and I've never understood Rolling Stone's obsession with him either.
I like John Mayer's talent and music. But I can't watch him perform. He tries to eat the microphone and it creeps me out a bit. I'll buy his album and enjoy it. Thanks, Vinny!
MICKEY-T: I agree that would be the best way to see him
BUD: Cool when your kids can intro you to music isn't it?
MAGS: LOL...I would like to see him.
TRAVIS: Well, then do not read below...there are a few who do not enjoy him for various reasons...and he is not coming to Tennessee either =[
TUG: LOL..I t is not wrong for you!
Thanks, but the review will come when I finally get the album (CD/DVD whatever!)
RWA: Music is a totally personal thing ... I never find it odd that I like/dislike someone and another person dislikes/likes them
KB: OK, Loves the music...hates the performance...
If I never hear John Mayer's name again, I'll be happy. I can't believe he's so popular. In general and with the ladies!
BECKEYE: I find it interesting the range of feelings people have for him.
Oh I get shit constantly for liking him. And as for his popularity with the ladies, yeah that too :P
ah....he's gonna be here the day after Toby....
smile.
