Quick Thoughts

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Wednesday, September 12, 2007

Going to be interesting to hear W speak on Thursday about his plans for troop withdrawal over the coming months. Word is he will set conditions, but will set a schedule for reducing presence by up to 30,000 troops by next summer.

We can only hope this is the case and it happens sooner rather than later.

This story by David Templeton of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is MOST interesting....

ERIE, Pa. - An Erie cancer researcher has found a way to burn salt water, a novel invention that is being touted by one chemist as the "most remarkable" water science discovery in a century.

John Kanzius happened upon the discovery accidentally when he tried to desalinate seawater with a radio-frequency generator he developed to treat cancer. He discovered that as long as the salt water was exposed to the radio frequencies, it would burn.

The discovery has scientists excited by the prospect of using salt water, the most abundant resource on earth, as a fuel.

Rustum Roy, a Penn State University chemist, has held demonstrations at his State College lab to confirm his own observations.

The radio frequencies act to weaken the bonds between the elements that make up salt water, releasing the hydrogen, Roy said. Once ignited, the hydrogen will burn as long as it is exposed to the frequencies, he said.

The discovery is "the most remarkable in water science in 100 years," Roy said.

"This is the most abundant element in the world. It is everywhere," Roy said. "Seeing it burn gives me the chills."

Roy will meet this week with officials from the Department of Energy and the Department of Defense to try to obtain research funding.

The scientists want to find out whether the energy output from the burning hydrogen — which reached a heat of more than 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit — would be enough to power a car or other heavy machinery.

"We will get our ideas together and check this out and see where it leads," Roy said. "The potential is huge."

This is huge, but we figure it will be years before we actually see this in a real situation. In the meantime, you all know there are people working to take control of our oceans as we speak...

We have had little time to visit your blogs this week. Our days and nights have been full of meetings and meals. Our hopes of meeting a friend last night was not to be, and that saddened us greatly, as we don't get out here as often as in the past.

Back home to Memphis tomorrow. We did realize our blood has begun to thin just a little...we miss the warm weather. It is 60 degrees here and that feels cold to us now!

Can it be that Madeleine McCann's parents are ultimately responsible for their daughter's death? DNA and hair found under the carpet in the trunk of the car has been reported. This story, ugly all along has just taken another fugly turn.

We have a wonderful friend who is going through some difficult times and all she is asked of me is to ask you, my faithful guests, to do is say a prayer for needy children around the world. So, we are doing so today...thank you.

and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born."

23 Of Your Sparks

  1. I think W will do what he thinks is the best for the country, we may not agree on that. smile

  2. Liz Hill Says:
  3. What a lovely quote--I've never heard that one from her.

Very interesting about the salt water. I hope it's true.

    Be safe sweet friend.

    Smooch

  4. The saltwater thing is fascinating. I'm pretty sure that you can burn human fat and use that as fuel, too, but that might not smell so good.

I don't care who took Madeleine McCanne... I just hope that she is still alive and safe although I doubt it. Especially if her parents are involved :-(

  5. Schmoop Says:
  6. HA...reduce troop levels by 30,000. That represents roughly the amount of the surge. Who's Zoomin' who? What a farce, a very expensive and deadly farce.

  7. Sparky Duck Says:
  8. I am actually salivating over hearing W tomorrow, though I think it will just give me something to rant about.

I need to move south, its in the 60s here today and I think it sucks.

  9. You've been here almost a year and already in the makings of a true southern gentleman ... see I told you that your blood would thin... it's been a little chilly here too...

    Be Safe!
    Smooches~

  10. Anndi Says:
  11. Hmmm.. well.. brine (aka saltwater) is used with electricity to make chlorine and hydrogen... and hydrogen is fuel... just need to figure out a way to use the chlorine to clean the car or something and TADAH!

Wouldn't my high school chemistry teacher be shocked that I know this... most I managed to burn in her class was when I accidentally almost singed my eyebrows off with the bunson burner (of course that was my friend's fault.. but that's a story for another day).

The kind of technology he proposes requires energy to produce the hydrogen... I'm curious to find out what the ratio is... What could the return be on this? I mean, can you play with the salt content to get more or less hydrogen? Do we risk depleting our current water sources? Can we use treated waste water to do this?

An appropriate musical choice for this post could have been Thomas Dolby's 'She blinded me with Science' ;).

  12. Angell Says:
  13. Don't have a comment on Dubya there, but will hope for the best for all.

Salt water eh? Could be interesting - what do you say we all chip in and buy the Altantic?

    Prayers have been said.

    SMOOCHES.

  14. Coco Says:
  15. hugs Vinny. good to see the old place.

  16. Twyla Says:
  17. After reading your post, I googled Madeleine McCann, because I haven't been keeping up with the story. I don't keep up with any news for that matter. Sometimes it's better to be clueless...because there is so much bad happening in the world.
Anyways, that google search lead me the story about the 'dingo who took the baby'...and then that lead me to Jonestown. It's strange how you start off with one thing, and end up somewhere totally different. Btw...the whole Jonestown thing was MESSED up. I never knew all the details...just that they all drank poison Kool-aid.
I meant to comment earlier, but got side tracked with all the googling. LOL Okay, so that really had nothing to do with your post, but there ya go. Now since I haven't been keeping up with the Madeleine story...what is your opinion? Did the parents do it?

  18. Anonymous Says:
  19. Thank you for your prayers for needy children and thoughtful comments.

  20. Mimi Lenox Says:
  21. Hi Bond - The Madeleine McCann story is unfolding like I had a hunch it might but hoped it wouldn't. Something did not quite ring true from the beginning. And not to take away from their suffering or jump to judgment because I really don't know but my question has always been "Why did two educated and responsible parents leave a 3 year old alone with very young siblings in a hotel room in the first place?" It doesn't make sense at all.

As for GW: We shall see but I predict same ole same ole. There will be disagreements amongst us I'm sure. But then, we'll get over and have cake.

  22. Travis Cody Says:
  23. Anndi's a geek! I always suspected this.

I always hope for the best in cases of missing children...they so rarely turn out well.

  24. SARGE: I suspect we will not as I want them home NOW.

TURN: Glad you enjoyed the quote...I thought it was perfect.

108: KYRA...no it would not smell so good, would it... I am saddened that I believe she is not with us any longer...

MATT-MAN: I tend to agree with you 100%

SPARKY: Rant away my friend...rant away

DIXIE: That is the nicest thing you have said to me....SMOOCH

ANNDI: You are a geek at heart dear...glad you did not burn the eyebrows...If I had been home, thee would have been tuneage

    ANGELL: TY for the prayers

COCO: Wonderful to have you back in your seat...

TWYLA: See sitting on The Couch allows you to learn things that we didn't even discuss...LOL How do I feel, any child that is kidnapped or hurt, my heart bleeds for them

BELL: Thank you so much for sitting on The Couch, please come back anytime...all are welcome...We will all say prayers for all in need

MIMI: It is a horrible story and this new news is heartbreaking...

    TRAVIS: LOL yes she is....
Unfortunately those stories do not turn out well...

  25. Anndi Says:
  26. Vinny and Travis: I am not! It's the engineers.. they made me do it!!! (I'm not a softie either, which is why I can't talk about poor Madeleine...)

  27. Anndi Says:
  28. and sheesh.. where do you think my powers to dissolve come from?

  29. Julie Says:
  30. **sigh** Society disgusts me so often..it's just so sad.

Ohio weather is chilling somewhat too...I have socks on...well, not JUST socks..I'm just sayin'....

  31. ANNDI: First it is the teacher - now the engineers...get your story straight! LOL
Of course you are not a softie my friend.... ummm you are not looking at me as you talk about dissolving, are you?

    JULIE: Faith my friend...

  32. BeckEye Says:
  33. Oh, my beloved Pittsburgh. There are some scientific mo fo's in that town.

  34. Travis Cody Says:
  35. As there was an unknown goopy substance in my sink this morning that could possibly be some kind of dissolving solution, I choose this time to revise certain remarks I made yesterday.

Anndi is a sweet, warm, compassionate, loving, giving, supportive friend with softy and geeky tendencies. These tendencies do not necessarily make her a softy or a geek.

    Is that better??

  36. Anndi Says:
  37. LOLOLOLOL!!!!! Vince and Travis

  38. BECKEYE: I guess there are .... LOL

TRAVIS: Sheesh dude..don't give up so easily... you can hold her pig-tails and I can grab the dissolving solution and we can escape....

ANNDI: Glad we are keeping you in giggles....

  39. Unknown Says:
