Going to be interesting to hear W speak on Thursday about his plans for troop withdrawal over the coming months. Word is he will set conditions, but will set a schedule for reducing presence by up to 30,000 troops by next summer.
We can only hope this is the case and it happens sooner rather than later.

ERIE, Pa. - An Erie cancer researcher has found a way to burn salt water, a novel invention that is being touted by one chemist as the "most remarkable" water science discovery in a century.
John Kanzius happened upon the discovery accidentally when he tried to desalinate seawater with a radio-frequency generator he developed to treat cancer. He discovered that as long as the salt water was exposed to the radio frequencies, it would burn.
The discovery has scientists excited by the prospect of using salt water, the most abundant resource on earth, as a fuel.
Rustum Roy, a Penn State University chemist, has held demonstrations at his State College lab to confirm his own observations.
The radio frequencies act to weaken the bonds between the elements that make up salt water, releasing the hydrogen, Roy said. Once ignited, the hydrogen will burn as long as it is exposed to the frequencies, he said.
The discovery is "the most remarkable in water science in 100 years," Roy said.
"This is the most abundant element in the world. It is everywhere," Roy said. "Seeing it burn gives me the chills."
Roy will meet this week with officials from the Department of Energy and the Department of Defense to try to obtain research funding.
The scientists want to find out whether the energy output from the burning hydrogen — which reached a heat of more than 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit — would be enough to power a car or other heavy machinery.
"We will get our ideas together and check this out and see where it leads," Roy said. "The potential is huge."
This is huge, but we figure it will be years before we actually see this in a real situation. In the meantime, you all know there are people working to take control of our oceans as we speak...

The saltwater thing is fascinating. I'm pretty sure that you can burn human fat and use that as fuel, too, but that might not smell so good.

Hmmm.. well.. brine (aka saltwater) is used with electricity to make chlorine and hydrogen... and hydrogen is fuel... just need to figure out a way to use the chlorine to clean the car or something and TADAH!
Wouldn't my high school chemistry teacher be shocked that I know this... most I managed to burn in her class was when I accidentally almost singed my eyebrows off with the bunson burner (of course that was my friend's fault.. but that's a story for another day).
The kind of technology he proposes requires energy to produce the hydrogen... I'm curious to find out what the ratio is... What could the return be on this? I mean, can you play with the salt content to get more or less hydrogen? Do we risk depleting our current water sources? Can we use treated waste water to do this?

After reading your post, I googled Madeleine McCann, because I haven't been keeping up with the story. I don't keep up with any news for that matter. Sometimes it's better to be clueless...because there is so much bad happening in the world.
Anyways, that google search lead me the story about the 'dingo who took the baby'...and then that lead me to Jonestown. It's strange how you start off with one thing, and end up somewhere totally different. Btw...the whole Jonestown thing was MESSED up. I never knew all the details...just that they all drank poison Kool-aid.

Hi Bond - The Madeleine McCann story is unfolding like I had a hunch it might but hoped it wouldn't. Something did not quite ring true from the beginning. And not to take away from their suffering or jump to judgment because I really don't know but my question has always been "Why did two educated and responsible parents leave a 3 year old alone with very young siblings in a hotel room in the first place?" It doesn't make sense at all.
As for GW: We shall see but I predict same ole same ole. There will be disagreements amongst us I'm sure. But then, we'll get over and have cake.
