Officials at an elementary school south of Boston have banned kids from playing tag, touch football and any other unsupervised chase game during recess for fear they'll get hurt and hold the school liable.
Recess is "a time when accidents can happen," said Willett Elementary School Principal Gaylene Heppe, who approved the ban.
While there is no districtwide ban on contact sports during recess, local rules have been cropping up. Several school administrators around Attleboro, a city of about 45,000 residents, took aim at dodgeball a few years ago, saying it was exclusionary and dangerous.
Elementary schools in Cheyenne, Wyo., and Spokane, Wash., also recently banned tag during recess. A suburban Charleston, S.C., school outlawed all unsupervised contact sports.
"I think that it's unfortunate that kids' lives are micromanaged and there are social skills they'll never develop on their own," said Debbie Laferriere, who has two children at Willett, about 40 miles south of Boston. "Playing tag is just part of being a kid."
Another Willett parent, Celeste D'Elia, said her son feels safer because of the rule. "I've witnessed enough near collisions," she said.

OK, "'spain to me Lucy", why we are now going to select the new SEVEN WONDERS OF THE WORLD?Ummm...what is wrong with the old SEVEN WONDERS OF THE WORLD kiddies? Are they no longer wonderful? Did they somehow lose their panache?
OK, now, I think this is remarkable.
I guess I need to do research before tackling a subject this big. As i began to check back to ensure I remembered the original SEVEN WONDERS OF THE WORLD, I found that there are actually a few lists of SEVEN WONDERS OF THE WORLD!

Let's begin with the original listing:

Then there is a listing of SEVEN WONDERS OF THE WORLD from Medival times: Seven Wonders of the Medieval World is a list whose origin and make-up is unknown. No scholarly resource is known to mention it, and the only known references are in popular books, such as The Rough Guide To England (1994, page 596) or The Complete Idiot's Guide to the Crusades (2001, page 153). However even these lists do not match up.

Wuh???? Not allowed to play tag??? What the frack???? When I was a kid (oh man, don't tell me I've reached THAT age now?), I used to play tag, run around, ride a bike (without a helmet! Although wearing a helmet is probably a good idea! LOL), played in the barn (climbed in the hayloft! Gasp!), played in the sawmill, and around heavy machinery AND farm animals, yet managed to survive to adulthood! Considering all the hazards available to me as a kid, I think the dangers of tag are relatively mild! LOL
Um, Bond? What about Taylor Hicks? He was created before 2000 and I can't imagine a more heavenly body!

I've been to the CN tower. How that could make any list surprises me. It's a tall building. Period. Not much else.
My favorites would have to be anything ancient (Greece and Rome). No cranes, no electricity...just hands, crude tools, and ideas.

I posted in Dixie's blog that in my daughter's school, they've eliminated morning recess for grades 1-5. Too many children, too much activity and too many adults in and out of the school yard.
