Is There A Cure For Blog Envy?

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Wednesday, July 05, 2006

So, I am still trying to figure this site out in terms of the number of visits I get each day. They do not have a counter mechanism as you see on many sites, and I do not think I have the readership who post comments often.
As I am using their "Adsense" tool which propagates the ad links at the top of each page, I can go and see some details.
I am just not sure I understand them. There is an area for "Page Impressions"... Now, if I read their explanation correctly, that is the equivalent of site hits...
This is what it reads "We count a page impression when our AdSense JavaScript is actually executed by a user's browser and ads are displayed. This is generally the equivalent to a page view...Note that page impressions differ from ad unit impressions. If multiple ad units are present on a page, multiple ad unit impressions will be logged for that page view, but only a single page impression will appear in your reports. For example, a user viewing a page with 3 ad units and 1 link unit will log 4 ad unit impressions, but only 1 page impression."
So, do you think I am correct? I would hope so, since yesterday there were 43 page impressions. If I am reading correctly, that means 43 of you read my blog yesterday. NOT BAD! As a matter of fact, today at 11:29 AM, it shows 13 page impressions already. I know I was assisted in these high numbers by my sister, Lynn, and dad, Vince (you all remember him- right?)...who sent out emails in the last two days to friends of theirs alerting them to my July 4th post.
Now, why am I bringing this up today? Well, as many of you know, my brother Rich has a blog called Favorite Office Time Wasters and we have talked about the number of hits his site gets and what I think I get on my site.
Thing is, we are both totally jealous of his good friend Fred, who maintains a site called Fred's World. Fred literally gets like 30+ comments with each of his posts and that just makes Rich and I green with jealousy! (side note... why is jealousy green?)
It is all in good fun of course (grumble grumble gripe gripe)...but I guess when you do this you always wonder if anyone is truly out there.
Another side note---check out Fred's World, it really is a fun site to read. Fred was always a character growing up and continues to be now.
SO, as a social experiment...I am asking my legion of readers (I do crack myself up sometimes), to just post a comment. I have allowed for anonymous comments to be posted, so you do not have to sign up at this site to comment. You also do not have to put your name...just a 2 word comment "read it" will do...nothing more...no money needed...no invasion of your personal space.
Then I can call Rich and tell him to check how many comments I got! WOOOOOO

So, Kenneth Lay has passed away. My condolences to his family who should not be held accountable for his actions, but I have to tell you folks...I want prove. This guy is so slimy and slippery, well...I think he would do anything to get out of serving a life term.
(hummmmm I might have just ticked off people with my "callousness" there and maybe I will lose readers, but hey, It is my blog and I get to say what I want!

The shuttle was launched successfully yesterday and that makes me happy. The thought of another NASA failure and casualties, is one I do not want to ponder.

It is raining - yet again - on the east coast. Seems like it has rained every day for the last 3 weeks. I am growing mould!

Stay dry...stay safe...stay happy.

Remember .. Nets For Malaria - UNFoundation.org/malaria - find the big SI's Nothing But Net logo ... Or call 202.887.9040. Every cent goes to buying nets to place over the beds of children in Africa to stomp out Malaria. PLEASE HELP.

Keep that spark of insanity kids...It helps keep you an individual.

pssst...comment button is just below on the right...2 words..."read it".....hehhhehheehehehehee

  2. Hey Vinny...thanks for dropping by. Glad to see another Commackian out there. Here's another blast from the past you may want to see. I'll update it in August.

I'm off for another family vacation tomorrow; I'm looking forward to reading your blog when I get back.

Hope you had a great holiday. Now, about that cocktail...

  8. Dear Cousin I do read I just don't leave comments. I miss you and the family so much. I guess if I would add some comments once in a while you would know that I am here. I guess that is the problem today we don't have time to do all the things we think about doing. Where does the time go. Scary if you stop to think about how fast the time is marching along. I have so much to do and am always doing something, but I never get it all done. I am here cousin and hope you always know that.

  12. Well I hope I can be more insightful than 'read it'. Loved your post regarding the Declaration---it's still a relevant document and we too frequently skip over parts. Good idea to read it in toto and think about it.

And for you Bond-- an update on the Ashville Tourists manager---his suspension was actually seven games (my bad and I am so sorry I relied on my hometown scrap rag of a paper)

Today I believe that his was voted the most outrageous meltdown on ESPN.

And the Asheville Tourists are auctioning off the second base bag-- autographed-- for charity.

Picture Susan Sarandon in Bull Durham...Oh MY...

Keep up the work B-- good blogs are hard to find
