What Should I Talk About?

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Monday, August 28, 2006 7 Of Your Sparks

Welcome To THE COUCH...Sit on Down and Get Comfy...

Welcome to Monday....

So, here I sit without a clue as to what today's report from THE COUCH should be about...

Should I talk about the fact that industry experts predict the blogsite fark.com may make it's owner Drew Curtis a possible million dollars because of the ad revenue his site is generating and at his site each story link has a little tease and a category type listing, such as Unlikely, Obvious, Strange, Cool etc. and it seems lots of folks go to fark.com for their news and to post inane comments at fark.com about the stories they have just read on other sites they were led to by fark.com and that basically, fark.com is a bunch of links and that could make Mr. Curtis a very rich man...?
Not sure I want to talk about that since it might make me jealous...

So, what else should I talk about...

Should I talk about the fact that this past Tuesday John Jordan "Buck" O'Neil, 94 years young, a former Negro League baseball player went to the plate for an at bat for the Kansas City T-Bones Minor league team and he did a little arguing with the ump over a strike call and eventually walked and he is now the oldest person ever to take an at bat in a professional baseball game...?
Well, if I talk about that my friends in Canada will make snide remarks aBOOT how hockey is better then baseball...

So, what else should I talk about...

Should I talk about the fact the Emmy Awards were last evening and that one of the supporting actresses nominated had exactly 15 seconds of screen time in her show and they nominated her for an award and how I would think that would make the other nominees pretty ticked off and the women who did not get nominated even more ticked off since they lost out to someone with 15 seconds of screen time...?
Well, I could talk about that, but for the life of me I can't remember the actresses name, so it would be silly to talk about that...

So, what else should I talk about...

Should I talk about the fact that some software guy named Frank Britt has put his home up for sale in Corona, CA. and the home sits on a 30,000 square foot lot (and takes up most of the lot), and has it's own private beach and is selling for the mere price of $75-million?
If I mention this one I could break out in tears that people have that kind of money and others can't afford a meal....

So, what else should I talk about...

Should I talk about the fact that we have some very clever people in our little Soul Patrol group who have been writing stories about Taylor Hicks and his exploits with cows and blonde headed women and psychics...?
Well, if I do that, then I lose those who have no idea who Taylor Hicks is, or couldn't care less about him or cows or psychics...

So, what else should I talk about...

Should I talk about the fact that I found out this weekend some of this illustrious group have never ever HEARD of the movie Animal House, no less seen one of the all time greatest comedies ever filmed...?
Well, they are now on DOUBLE SECRET PROBATION and that should be penalty enough...

Should I talk about the fact that I just spent the last half hour trying to figure out what I should talk about this morning...?
Well, if I do that then you will all realize you just read a bunch of hooey and start throwing pastries at me... OH NO another reference to the Soul Patrol.. How did I get there?

Well...What about it folks... Was that worth Coca-Cola or McDonalds putting an ad on my site and letting me earn some big bucks?

Thanks for sitting on THE COUCH, hope you enjoyed your stay.

Views On The World

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Thursday, August 24, 2006 5 Of Your Sparks

Welcome To THE COUCH...Sit on Down and Get Comfy...

I am well aware that I never posted yesterday and I am now posting this way late on Thursday, but some job prospects have kept me away from the computer. FYI...tomorrow's will be late also...

YES Kids...once again, THE COUCH will bring you it's take on news around the world...

Tom Cruise Dumped By Paramount Pictures - Was it his asking for too much dough for the new contract, or was it his off-screen antics like his constant push for Scientology, his ripping of Brooke Shields, the whole Suri episode?
THE COUCH'S TAKE: Hey...anyone who jumps up and down on a couch must be a bit looney. I spoke with Oprah's COUCH and I have to tell you, it was not happy to have this knucklehead putting his shoes all over it.

Shannen Doherty Has A New Reality Show - On this show, "Breaking Up With Shannen Dougherty" is about couples in trouble and has Shannen as a sounding board and she helps the to breakup.
THE COUCH'S TAKE: S.D. has been married and divorced twice. So, she certainly knows the ins and outs of breaking up...but c'mon...give me a break! (ummm THE COUCH didn't mean to use that pun!)

France To Send 2,000 Troops To Southern Lebanon - This represented a turnaround for Paris, which drew criticism last week after announcing it would only double its current 200-troop contingent. France's role as mission commander then came under pressure, with Italy expressing a willingness to take the lead role and pledging up to 3,000 troops. This was a major step toward expanding it more than a week after a cease-fire took hold.
THE COUCH'S TAKE: OK, cease-fire is in place...they get threatened with losing their role as mission commander and now they send more troops. Typical of the French who have never defended themselves once in the world and have always looked to others to save them. "Hey, no one is fighting...let's act like big shots now." PATOOEY!

Katherine McPhee Is Not Counting Calories - Ms. McPhee says her diet on the AI Tour does not consist of healthy foods, is not working with an eating coach and "...I don't do any weird, disordered eating things anymore, thank God."
THE COUCH'S TAKE: Gotta tell you..it looked like she was stretching out the long black gown a bit in Louisville and I can see her becoming a bit hefty...and here comes the Steven Spielberg movie...nah, THE COUCH won't even go there.

Scientists Downgrade Pluto - The International Astronomical Union has decided that Pluto is no longer a planet in our solar system. Pluto, a planet since 1930, got the boot because it didn't meet the new rules, which say a planet not only must orbit the sun and be large enough to assume a nearly round shape, but must "clear the neighborhood around its orbit." That disqualifies Pluto, whose oblong orbit overlaps Neptune's, downsizing the solar system to eight planets from the traditional nine.
THE COUCH'S TAKE: Wave those plush toys all you want scientists, but THE COUCH ain't changing...Pluto is a planet and you will all be haunted by the ghosts of Walt Disney and Clyde Tombaugh. the man who discovered Pluto. And I bet they are all cat people too.

Fantasia Barrino's New Movie - Titled "Fantasia Barrino: Life Is Not A Fairy Tale" traces her road from her childhood to being a poor single mom to her success as the winner of Amercan Idol. It is airing on the Lifetime Network.
THE COUCH'S TAKE: ummmm...let's see..grow up poor..have a child at 17, try out against millions of other people for a reality TV show...win that show.... big recording contract...making a ton of money...THE COUCH thinks that sounds JUST LIKE A Fairy Tale!

Sprinter LaTasha Jenkins tested positive - She tested positive for the anabolic steroid nandrolone in July. The test was done in July by the International Association of Athletics Federations in Europe. As of now only the "A" test has been completed. If the second "B" test is positive, Jenkins could face a minimum two-year ban from competition. Jenkins is trained by Trevor Graham, who has also coached Justin Gatlin, Marion Jones and Tim Montgomery. Gatlin and Jones have also tested positive within the last year.
THE COUCH'S TAKE: Yo..Folks...the testing has improved to where you can't do this stuff any longer...and why would you continue to associate yourself with someone who obviously endorses this stuff. But you do, so just SHUT UP AND GO AWAY!

Former "American Idol" Contestant Mikalah Gordon Robbed - She and a friend were robbed on a sidewalk in a neighborhood about seven miles northwest of the Las Vegas Strip. Seems the robbers got $5 and a cell phone.
THE COUCH'S TAKE: This is a story why exactly??????????????????

Well..THE COUCH has spoken...and I know you all feel so much better for that!

bwahahhaahahahahahahahahahaahaaaaaaaaaa

Thanks for sitting on THE COUCH, hope you enjoyed your stay.

Blogger, Apologies, Blogs & Music

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Wednesday, August 16, 2006 9 Of Your Sparks

Welcome To THE COUCH...Sit on Down and Get Comfy...

I am getting frustrated by blogger. As of last week, all of a sudden, I need to do a verification before I can post my blog.

I received the following message:

Blogger's spam-prevention robots have detected that your blog has characteristics of a spam blog. (
What's a spam blog?) Since you're an actual person reading this, your blog is probably not a spam blog. Automated spam detection is inherently fuzzy, and we sincerely apologize for this false positive.

Before we can turn off mandatory word verification on your posts we'll need to have a human review your blog and verify that it is not a spam blog. Please fill out the form below to get a review.

Well, so far, I have filled out the form every day (7 times) and still, no word from the "powers that be".

Do I look like Spam? Gosh, I have never even eaten Spam.

Well at least these incredible words of wisdom get posted, but what a PITA!

I send a slight apology for yesterday's posting. Not for all of it, but for the ramblings about credit cards and the like. My situation is such small potatoes compared to what some of my friends are going through.

Diana's father (Diana's Journal - linked on the front page), and her daily struggle to care for him is so much more important and critical... My friend Donna, who lives here is going through treatment for breast cancer...My niece Candice and her ordeal...Another friend who is going through problems at home with an abusive spouse...(this one makes my blood boil, but she has become strong and he currently resides behind bars as he should)...The soldiers who are overseas fighting an unwinnable war and losing their lives over it...My friend who is dealing with health issues with BOTH her mom and dad and needs to care for them as much as possible...And my wife's struggle with her chronic pain and now a benign tumor on her spine...

There is also good news out there...Gary's recovery from his scare with cancer...It appears he is on the road to recovery...Another friend who just completed her treatment for a rare form of cancer on her breast...And she is recovering nicely...Fred, just celebrating his 20th with the Missus...Matt is healthy...Mom is still in total recovery from her cancer of three years ago...

So, I need to focus on the positives more then the negatives in my life. I am the type that has always put my issues aside to focus on my friend's situations, and it bothers me that I have let my minor problems become the focus here once again.

That will stop my friends.. It is all good....

OK...Also linked on this site is the blog my brother Richard writes for the San Antonio Express-News MySA.com website called FAVORITE OFFICE TIME WASTERS. I have mentioned this many times before and will continue to do so, because - if you have not been there- you are missing out.

You MUST check out his link called "BUT DOES DIRK KNOW" on the site right now. Personally, I am upset it did not come with a warning label like they use on CD's and TV programs, that your eyes may spontaneously combust when looking at the site it links to.

I am also very very curious how many of my readers will get the context of the title "But Does Dirk Know" and ask you to tell me in the comments section if you did or did not get it.

I have to admit, it took me a few seconds, once I had seen the site, to get the connection, but when I did.. I laughed so hard a tear came to my eye.

Rich...Your sense of humor has always had a certain warp to it that I love!

If you go over to Fred's World, you will see his latest post about his 20th Anniversary and some nice shots from the wedding...Oh..Rich is the guy just to the right of the Missus in the group shot (your right not theirs)...His legs are no where near as nice as mine though!

Another site that, I think, I had previously recommended is the
OCEANGRAM.COM site where you can write a message, put it into a bottle and hoist it into the virtual ocean. Then you can wait for messages to come back to you (YES, I got this one from Rich's FOTW site also...)

But I must insist that, if your boss catches you on his site or on links you got from his site, that you don't blame him! LOL

I have also been spending some time going through my music collection...reaquainting myself with some of my all time favorite songs.

Still, to this day, Jackie Wilson's "Higher & Higher" makes me smile like a teenage boy in love for the first time.

Derek and the Dominos doing "Bell Bottom Blues" is another incredible song and another is Aretha Franklin doing "The Weight" (yes THE BAND song) with Duane Allman doing the slide guitar.

I also did some searching on Limewire the other night and found the most incredible live version of Sting with Jeff Beck doing the George Harrison song "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". Jeff Beck is one of the more unrated guitar players of our time, IMHO.

FYI ... My opinion is - if I have already purchased the song in analog (vinyl) I have no qualms about downloading a digital version, and any music that is live and not available on CD, well that is fair game also. I will not hurt an artist by downloading music I have not previously owned.

Just my opinion and I am sure there are those who will disagree...But please don't call the RIAA police on me...

Rock on....

Tuesday Is Tidbit Day

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Tuesday, August 15, 2006 8 Of Your Sparks

Welcome To THE COUCH...Sit on Down and Get Comfy...

What I Know, Don't Know, Wish I Knew...A collection of random thoughts and comments....
  • I know I have many friends out in the cyber world, many of whom have added my niece Candice to their prayer list...and for that I am eternally grateful.
  • I know that the commercial breaks in a baseball game always coincide with commercial breaks on TV shows... how the heck does that happen?
  • I wish I knew why Michael Bloomberg, Mayor of NYC, is putting $125 million of his own money into funds to stop smoking nationwide....ummm Mike... $50,000 ...just $50,000 bud..I can give you my address...
  • I know that someday the caller ID on my phone will stop showing "UNKNOWN NAME" and I will feel confident to pick up all calls...yes I know this will happen.
  • I don't know why creditors don't leave voice mails when you don't pick up their calls...I mean, there is no callback information, so why bother calling me?
  • I know that people who lobby for the credit card companies have made it even more difficult for people with legitimate financial situations to get out of those situations and begin anew...sorry, no funny comment here!
  • I know that the real estate market changed for the worst exactly one day before the FOR SALE sign went up on my home...well it sure feels like it anyway!
  • I wish I knew why there is a compelling reason to photograph George O'Dowd sweeping the streets of New York and also, how can this 45-year old man continue to call himself Boy George?...c'mon...do you really like people to call you that now that you are bald, and dumpy?
  • I totally know that I am not "Preapproved" for up to $15,000.00 on a credit card...by one of the companies I owe money to...yet they keep sending me mail telling me so.
  • I don't know why Michelle Wie, the 16-year old golfer, feels it is necessary to compete on the Men's PGA Tour when she can only compete on the LPGA Tour through sponsorship exemptions...Hey Michelle...get your diploma..play against the women and maybe win a few tournaments before you try to play against the men.
  • I do know that a man can't compete on the LPGA circuit...and that doesn't seem fair if women are allowed to play on the PGA Tour.
  • I wish I knew less about Brittany Spears & K-Fed (Oh PULEEZE, it is Kevin - there ain't no ganstas named Kevin...sorry!) and Denise Richardson & Charlie Sheen and Katie Holmes & Tom Cruise and all of these other people who have a talent but insist on acting like they are more then just that talent.
  • I do know that the creator's of youtube.com ( Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim) are freaking geniuses. They looked around...realized that the American public love to be voyeurs and came up with a way to capitalize on that insatiable desire the public has to watch the "train-wrecks" or to make fools of ourselves and share it with millions of strangers.
  • I wish I knew why people actually come here to read the rantings of a 52-year old, unemployed, lunatic...OH right .. y'all like to watch train wrecks..we already established that!
  • I do know that I could make a success of a deli/prepared food store somewhere close to the vacation spots in North or South Carolina, and that someday soon a benefactor will arise and join me as a "money-partner" ...if I don't know this one, my brain could explode!
  • Finally, for today (OK...hold down the applause.. no one tied you down to the couch to make you stay here!) I wish I knew if this billboard was real or fake... but either way...it made me smile on this dark, cloudy, rainy Tuesday (oh and the weather ain't so great either! - LOL)...poorly endowed...man that kills me to no end...bet that hurt ole Stevie worst then all the rest of it!
Thanks for sitting on THE COUCH, hope you enjoyed your stay.

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Friday, August 04, 2006 16 Of Your Sparks

Welcome To The Couch...Sit on Down and get comfy...

Signs that this world is just getting too damn crazy:
Meet Allen Heckard of Portland, Oregon. Allen drives a shuttle-bus at the Portland airport. He loves to play basketball. He shaves his head, wears Air Jordan sneakers and wears an earring in his left ear.

He has also recently filed a lawsuit against Michael Jordan and Phil Knight, the Chairman of Nike for $832 MILLION DOLLARS!

Yes, you read that correctly....$832 MILLION DOLLARS!

Now, why is Mr. Heckard suing these gentlemen? Well, it seems that Allen gets mistaken for Michael Jordan all the time. He has even shaved his goatee and started to wear two earrings - all to no avail. OH, and he is only 6 foot tall, compared to jordan's 6'6" height. He still get mistaken for the real Jordan....$832 MILLION DOLLARS!

So, Heckard is suing Jordan for defamation and permanent injury and emotional pain and suffering. He’s also suing Knight for defamation and permanent injury for promoting Jordan and making him one of the most recognized men in the world....$832 MILLION DOLLARS!

OK...Let's compare...here they are side-by-side:OK...need a clue? Can you do this on your own? OK, Jordan is on the right and Heckard on the left...no no no, see I can't even tell.. Jordan is on the left, Heckard is on the right...YUP that's it....$832 MILLION DOLLARS!

Allen Heckard filed the suit himself (well at least we don't have to hang some lawyer for taking this case!), June 29th in Washington County Circuit Court. Heckard said he’s been mistaken as Michael Jordan nearly every day over the past 15 years....$832 MILLION DOLLARS!

“I'm constantly being accused of looking like Michael and it makes it very uncomfortable for me,” Heckard said. As uncomfortable as trying to wear a size 9 shoe on a size 12 foot? Is that what he means?....$832 MILLION DOLLARS!

Oh yeah.. I can see it now...Mr. Joe Businessman flies into Portland and steps up onto the shuttle. He looks up at the driver and drops his luggage and briefcase and stares in amazement... "Oh MY Goodness..It's YOU...Michael Jordan...Man I LOVE YOU!!!!" and he throws his arms around "Jordan" and hugs him, tears rolling down his face...hands reaching for a pen and pad for an autograph. Yup..happens every day....$832 MILLION DOLLARS!

“Even when I go to the gym I'm being accused of playing ball like him (Jordan)," said Heckard. So do you think he can fly through the air from the foul line, legs spread, tongue out?....$832 MILLION DOLLARS!

YOU decide...is that Jordan or Heckard...I can't tell! Most people would consider that a high compliment....$832 MILLION DOLLARS!

"Yes...don’t get me wrong it’s definitely a positive thing, because Michael, like I say is one of the best ball players that I've known to play the game. But then again, that's Michael and I'm me. So I want to be recognized as me just like Michael's being recognized as Michael."
Do you think people have now approached Michael Jordan and said "Hey Mr. Heckard, why are you suing?"....$832 MILLION DOLLARS!

Nike said it would move to dismiss this suit. What I want to know is how was this suit even accepted. Why would the Washington County, OR courts even take the $206.00 he paid to file this suit....$832 MILLION DOLLARS!

More Insanity:

Did you know that the All England Club spends $111,000 during Wimbledon each year for TOWELS! The towels used are supposed to be left on the court at the end of matches, but 2,500 towels disappear each year.

"Hey, Andre, where did these 200 towels come from that I found in your luggage???"
"Oh darn Steffi, I guess I forgot to leave them in England...oh well, we can use them by the jacuzzi."
They can hire me to be the "Towel Police"...I guarantee not one player will leave the grounds with a towel...

"ummm Ms. Sharapova, sorry but we will have to strip search you to ensure you are not hiding a towel under your clothes." YUP, I can do that!

OK, going to update my resume..."Towel Police"...yeah....I can do that!

Thanks for sitting on the Couch, hope you enjoyed your stay.

Tuesday Tid-bits

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Tuesday, August 01, 2006 10 Of Your Sparks

Good Tuesday....
SO, someone "in the know" says some of the testosterone found in the sample taken from Floyd Landis is synthetic and not naturally produced by his body. Still waiting on the results of the second sample taken. Should find out next week.
New rule--you want to be quoted, you identify yourself and stop all this "unnamed source" bullshit - step up and be a man/woman.

SO, Fidel is sick and in the hospital and brother Raul is now in charge. Why do I keep thinking Billy Carter??? "Hey..wanna split a beer and talk about world peace?"

Found something interesting on ESPN.COM in an article by Jim Caple. US Interstate 90 runs from Safeco Field in Seattle to Fenway Pawk (yes Pawk) in Bahstin (yes Bahstin). Now that is a pretty interesting fact in itself. Now, add to that fact that you can visit 11 different Hall Of Fames along the same route and it is even more amazing.

In case you can't read it (since it would not post larger):
(numbers after the name is miles off Rt. 90)

1> Chicago - Michael Jordon Statue (OK not a Hall.. but..) - 3 miles
2> South Bend - College Hall Of Fame - 1 mile
3> Cleveland - Rock & Roll Hall Of fame (not leaving that one out!) - 1 mile

4> Canton - Pro Football Hall Of Fame - 57 miles

5> Toronto - Hockey Hall Of Fame - 100 miles

6> Canastota - Boxing Hall Of Fame - 0.3 miles

7> Cooperstown - Baseball Hall Of Fame - 27 miles

8> Oneonta - Soccer Hall Of Fame - 54 miles

9> Saratoga - Horse Racing Hall Of Fame - 30 miles

10> Holyoke - Volleyball Hall Of Fame - 6 miles

11> Springfield - Basketball hall Of Fame - 6 miles

Here is a link if you are interested in finding other "Halls Of Fame" go to THIS PAGE on espn.com

I have always thought it would be cool to do a 2-3 week road trip and visit different baseball parks during the summer- both Major and Minor league parks...There are actually travel companies that will arrange them for you... too cool.

Thanks for visiting....see you all tomorrow.

Canadians, Judges, Racing, and Entertainment...

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Thursday, July 27, 2006 8 Of Your Sparks

OK, I know all my Canadian readers will now be screaming and yelling things like:
"Hey Hoser..what is up with ya...what is this all aBOOT anyways? You promised us some pictures of men in skates on ice...we had to sit through the pictures of men playing that game we hate..now how's aBOOT some hockey???"
Well...how do you all like the new look? I got tired of the darkness with all the black on the other site and it made it difficult to get some things to show. Hope you like it---let me know please...

DAMM SIGHTING-- thanks Damm for your comment... I guess you can appreciate without comments...but I so love the comments...makes me feel like you like me...you really really like me...oops sorry, Sally Field Moment for a second...

So, I want everyone to send a note of disgust to the Honorable Superior Court Judge Thomas Olivieri of Hudson County, New Jersey's Chancery Division. I use the term Honorable loosely here folks. Seems he was the presiding judge in a case that makes my stomach turn. Young girl is born and there are complications during the birth - it is a breach birth and she is left with a severe spinal-cord injury that kept her from walking and gave her breathing problems and required her to be fed through a tube.
The father - a sleeze named Ruben Martinez, abandoned his wife and child. He paid absolutely no child support--not one cent, and spent virtually no time caring for his daughter.
When she was six years old, she was awarded $2.5 million in a settlement that was held in trust for her care.
Well, this young lady passed away, in September, at 22 years old, without a will.
Here comes the deadbeat dad..taking the mother to court for his 1/2 of the approximately $1 million dollars left in the estate.
The girls mom called Rueben nothing more than a "biological donor" in court papers.
here they go to court- in a case that should have been thrown out on merit - and in front of this excuse for a judge. His ruling...
While acknowledging that "biological relationships are not the exclusive determinant of parenthood...Inheritance is not conditional on the behaviors of a parent."
Bottom line- he awarded this piece of whale dung 1/2 of the estate!
To add insult to injury, the mother had countersued for all the child support "Whale-Dung Rueben" had refused to pay over the years. Our wonderful judge---well he dismissed the suit saying the issue was moot since the young woman was already dead! What an ASS.
Now the kicker..."Whale-Dung Rueben" had gone to court 2 years after the settlement and secured a declaration from a NY Family Court that he was this young woman's father...
Riddle me this kiddies--- he abandons them...learns of the settlement...goes to court so he can have proof he is the dad...never pays a cent to her for her care...rarely if ever visits...and then waits until she dies to weasel his way into the money...OK, who want the first shot of hitting this guy with an 8-foot long 2' x 4"??? Line starts to the left...
And maybe...just maybe, we should have good old Judge Olivieri standing there waiting for his smacks. The only good thing this reprehensible judge did was award the mom $300,000 from the company holding the trust fund to reimburse her for medical costs incurred. No word on if "Whale-Dung Rueben" can get some of this. And he is going to use his part of the settlement for college for his other kids!!!!!!
The mother is now pushing for laws to prevent dead-beat dads from getting their grubby little whale-dung fins on settlement monies. Let's hope it happens folks---write to your state officials and make it happen.

So, Floyd Landis failed a drug test. WHAT??? You don't know who Floyd Landis is??? He won the Tour de France...you know the race won 685 times by Lance Armstrong...who was always clean...is anyone clean in this sport? truly... someone answer me...

So, Kid Rock & Pamela Anderson are going to exchange vows 4 times this week in France, California, Michigan & Tennessee...Now I just know that my invitation is waiting at home for me...I know it - yes I do...

Poor Prince - he is Prince again...right? Or is he that symbol (not even wing-dings has that symbol!)...or is it The Artist Formerly Known As Prince... or maybe it is now, The Artist Formerly Known As Prince, Then As A Symbol And Now Just Prince Again -- my head hurts now... well anyway
his wife of five years, Manuela Testolini Nelson, filed for divorce on May 24, according to court documents obtained Wednesday by the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Me wonders...Prince married...yup I am gonna just keep wondering...

More Big Big News--- Tori Spelling - YOU know...Donna on 90210 - the daughter of Aaron Spelling will inherit just $800,000 of the TV legend's estimated $500 million fortune. WAIT- STOP...let's review that one more time...$500 MILLION!!!! Now, I hear it is all because she does not get along with mommy and that dad rewrote the will recently...My advice- SUE THEM ALL DONNA... Don't let them do this to you...call Steve and Brandon and get them to help...what? what? OH that was her character on a TV show.... nevermind.

Have you seen SURI??? 100 days since her birth and not one person has seen her....maybe she is on the mothership with L.Ron ... oops - sorry attorneys for Mr. Cruise say I must take that out....go on...sue me--just try it... can't get water from a stone... come on...take me to court... SURI SURI SURI SURI HA!

Finally today....the huge news hitting all the magazines and TV entertainment shows... I mean HUGE NEWS... Lance Bass of the boy band N'Sync is gay... sounds of total silence...I mean... is this really news?

Hi...Welcome to Wednesday. Wow, this is the longest gap of no-posting days since I began. Missing 3-days! I am sure some of you are lying there, unable to move...Trying to decide what is wrong with this world...
Sorry... Tournament ended Sunday and Monday and Tuesday became recuperation and catch-up days.
Been real hot here and Saturday and Sunday were killers. Saturday was the championship game and Nottingham beat West Windsor, so they had to come back on Sunday and play the final game. Sunday... West Windsor 4-1 over Nottingham and the first District Championship since 1991. Have you been paying attention..That is the year Kevin Barry played on the team... and now he plays for the Atlanta Braves...You know the team everyone wrote off who are now playing like they own the world...Last night, they won their 7th straight game going to before the All-Star break. In the 5-games since the All-Star break they have scored 15, 11, 10, 15 and 14 runs. It is the first time since the 1930 YANKEES that a team has scored in double digits in 5 straight games.
We all know our loyal reader Turn is very happy these days...Her Braves are flying...But will it be enough for them to get back into contention for the post-season....oh...Kevin's stats since joining the Braves:Speaking of our BELOVED YANKEES...They are also playing very well winning all 5 of their games since the All-Star break and now only 1/2 game behind the team from Boston. Gotta love the kid...Melky Cabrera...He has just played very well in spots for this team - winning last night's game with a walk-off homer in the 11th.

Other things...
AMANDA CONGDON HAS LEFT ROCKETBOOM... WTF??!!
I get Rocketboom on my TiVo, so I normally watch a week's worth in a sitting. Well, when I went to look at how many episodes I had to watch, I was surprised to see so few...I figure..OK, holiday and all...They took some days off...turn on last Wednesday's edition (the oldest one there) and ...WTF??? There is a new host and something about Amanda leaving....so, I run over to her blogspot HERE to see what I missed in this whole story and man it appears it was FUGLY!
There is a great video of Amanda saying good-bye HERE...gotta tell you - the show is nothing without her...the new host....nah!

INTERNET BENCH...OK, going too far now me thinks...
You can go HERE and see the internet bench in Gdansk, Poland...hummm.. not much happening right now as I watch...yawnnnnnnnnnn

TRAFFIC CALMING ...yeah calm this MOTHER%#@*&*!
This is the practice of reducing the speed of traffic through populated areas. Common ways you all know are speed bumps, or those ubiquitous electronic signs that tell you how much faster then the speed limit you are traveling, or even taking a straight road and adding gentle curves to it to reduce speed. Well, at site called "Road Witch", they also give some other "unique ideas." Funny stuff I say ole' chap!

Finally for today...we hit on this way back in the beginning...but you just HAVE TO LOVE Kyle MacDonald...remember him? He is the guy that began a quest for a house with ONE RED PAPERCLIP...he made 14 trades and one year later- to the day! - he has a house!

Incredible thing this Internet is....Just think about it for a bit...

Little League...MORE on the D.O.I. and the weird world...

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Thursday, July 13, 2006 3 Of Your Sparks

Well...I missed a day...This tournament has been kicking my ass. Last night was the worst though.
Our 12-year old All-stars were playing the team from Washington Township. Our Softball team had knocked theirs out of that tournament- so we knew they were coming out in force. This game would determine the "winner's Bracket" entry into the final game. The loser would get another chance at the final game by winning the game to be held today for the "consolation bracket" champion... you must lose 2 games in this tournament to be totally eliminated, so you can reach the final game by winning against all the other 1 loss teams....I just know 1/2 of you are shaking your heads..totally confused!
So, I hear over the walkie talkie we are closing the parking lots...too full. We then divert the cars around the corner to the Municipal Center where we run shuttles. Then I hear Luke who is diverting at the street say that some woman refuses to go to the shuttle and is blocking traffic. I jump in our golf cart and head there and all of a sudden I see like 8 cars coming in. I get to the end and Luke tells me one of the umps arrived and he let him in, as we have reserved spots for the officials, newspapers etc., and as he did, this woman zipped around him and almost hit him.
I drive back to the complex and one of the other guy's, Jeff, says to me on the walkie, "Mr. M., she is right here near me, she is laughing about getting around Luke." So, I drive over and find her. Man, I was so upset, I did not yell, but my voice does carry and I said "Lady, you try that stunt again and almost hit one of our teens, I will have you taken off the property in handcuffs."
The in the top of the 6th...tied at 4, the skies opened up. Our President is in Europe on business, so de facto, somehow I become the "Tournament Official" on site as we are the hosts.
The Washington people decide they can drive up to the fields to get poor little Johnny, so he doesn't get wet. In the process I see like 12 cars all weaving on the grass, one almost hits a kid...so I am out there waving them off, being called names by the parents and being ignored by others, so I walked down and shut the entry gate so they were locked in and others could not follow. Took sown some license plate numbers. Those folks might be diverted to the shuttles tonight just because!
So, tonight, they have to finish that game at 5pm. The loser then plays for the "consolation bracket" final at 7pm. We also have 2 softball games tonight, so another long, tiring, greasy evening on tap! WOOOO

OK, now we have all been absorbed by the Declaration Of Independence and the stories of the men who wrote it...and what became of them...and I posted the entry from Anita Blank the other day...That

THUMP
That is the sound of brother Rich's comment hitting the post "More D.O.I. facts & A Report From The Grill"
He sends us to that wondrously incredible site ... The "SNOPES URBAN LEGENDS PAGE"...there you will find out that some of the information regarding the signers is true... but some is not. The article is located here and makes for some very interesting reading in itself. There were some inaccuracies that I should have noted, but alas I missed them - like NAMES SPELLED INCORRECTLY! sheesh....

OK, this one caught my eye immediately:
By Associated Press LAS CRUCES, N.M. - A power outage that blacked out about 2,000 customers in Las Cruces is being blamed on a combination of a snake and a bird. The customers lost their electricity Tuesday after a bird dropped a bull snake on a power line, shorting out the line, El Paso Electric Co. spokeswoman Teresa Souza said. "I know that's weird. ... I've never heard anything like that and I've been working here for 10 years," Souza said. She said she did not know how large the snake was, and she would not speculate on what type of bird dropped it. Power was restored in less than an hour.

So, I also see where an "Ex-American Idol" contestant has been accused of child porn.
Former 'American Idol' Contestant Indicted
By Associated Press
SALT LAKE CITY - A former "American Idol" contestant accused of videotaping sexual encounters with two teenage girls has been indicted on child pornography charges. XYZ - 27, pleaded not guilty Tuesday in U.S. District Court to charges of production of child pornography and possession of child pornography. A trial date was set for Sept. 18. If convicted, he faces up to 40 years in prison. XYZ, a contestant on the popular TV talent competition two years ago, was arrested last month in West Valley City after a 14-year-old girl contacted police. He has remained in the Salt Lake County Jail since his arrest. The Salt Lake County district attorney's office has also charged XYZ with unlawful sexual activity with a minor and unlawful supply of alcohol to minors. He is scheduled to appear in district court July 25 for a preliminary hearing on those charges.
This person's resume is on their web site and shows the following in a list of credits:
  • AMERICAN IDOL 5 (Semi-Finalist)-Was in the top 70 of 100,000
  • UTAH AMERICAN IDOL-appeared on FOX 13. -
  • USA WORLD SHOWCASE (First Place)-Adult Singing/Songwriting division Las Vegas, March 2005 @ MGM (appeared on national television via PAX. -
  • AMERICAN IDOL 2 (Finalist)-top 100 of 11,000 in L.A.
Now, riddle me this kids.. first off the top 70 or the top 100..what did this dude get like 35 seconds of air time? Why was his association with the "World Showcase" or the TV station PAX mentioned??? Look, when you begin with 100,000+ contestants, some will not be the kind of person you would invite for dinner...but to associate this piece of trash with American Idol as they do in the headlines is ridiculous. I even deleted his name so his business would not get any publicity.

Ugh...tell me what is happening out there folks? The Middle-East is truly on the verge... North Korea (which has been a huge problem for years, but someone's daddy hadn't screwed it up, so there was no reason to deal with them...

I would love to be able to enjoy the summer at some point...maybe next year...

Thursday Rambles On...

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Thursday, July 06, 2006 2 Of Your Sparks

Hummmmmmmm..... OK, remember I said that before I posted yesterday it showed 13 page impressions. I got 8 comments (including one from the one and only FRED!) ... and it shows 53 impressions. So, I guess either I do not get that whole page impression thing, or many did not post as instructed.

OK class...when the teacher gives an assignment... Oops, no Fred is the teacher, not me...nevermind! Though I have thought about following his lead and chucking the corporate world for the halls of academia...if Middle-School or HS is academia...and YES..I KNOW IT IS!

We even got a few new comments from our July 4th post, so you may want to scroll back to that one. Sue adds some interesting information about Adams and Jefferson, which I had forgotten about. Thanks for the extended lesson Sue.

Not one person was offended by my comment about Ken Lay so that made me smile. I used it on my friends Janice & Andy last night, as they had not read my blog yet...and it got a laugh from them, so I figured I was probably in the clear.

No, really...until someone in authority totally confirms it is him and they didn't do one of those FACE/OFF things (ya know the movie with John Travolta and Nicholas Cage. Travolta has Cage's face transplanted onto his body...Good flick..pick up the DVD if you have not seen it)...I will not be convinced that he isn't lying on a beach on some deserted island in the South Pacific.

I have a tree in my backyard that is green with moss from all the rain. And, YES, I realize I spelled the word MOLD as "MOULD" yesterday. Mr. Mould (gosh, I don't even know his first name anymore!) was our Principal in high school. We even made reference to his name being something that lives in dark cool places in a skit I wrote for our Senior Follies...WOOOOOO Commack HS South Spartans - class of 1972!!!!!!!!!!!

Tonight begins 10 days of the West Windsor Little League hosting All-Star games, including the District 12, 12-year old Finals. The winning team goes on to the State tournament...then they can move on to the Sectionals, the Regionals and finally the holy shrine of Little League baseball...WILLIAMSPORT, PA. We have had 2 teams win the District but never get out of the States.
I run the concession stand there and have for the last 8 years. CASA DE WARD is unique for a Little League Concession stand in my humble opinion. We serve the normal foods - hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken nuggets, pretzels, ice cream & drinks.
I also make homemade Sausage & Pepper Hoagies (translation for the rest of the country ...subs, grinders, heros - think that covers it); Barbeque Chicken Sandwiches (breast meat slowly cooked in a blend of 3 barbecue sauces and then shredded, served on a bun) - Our cheese steak is made with thinly sliced Rib-Eye...

HUNGRY YET?
And then, from our local deli, we also offer - fresh-made each day - Turkey and Tuna Wraps; Chef Salad, Caesar Salad and Fruit Salad. On Saturday mornings they delivered Bacon, Egg & Cheese and Sausage, Egg and Cheese Sandwiches to us - fresh and piping hot.
The deli items are new this year, but two years ago when we hosted this tournament, Casa De Ward actually got a whole article in the Trentonian Newspaper. Nice article and a picture too! (hummm scanner is not hooked up - dang!)
We have averaged between $9,000 - $11,000 per year - regular season for the league. It allows us to bring in a professional "baseball landscaper" to maintain the fields, which means we have very few rain-outs. The league was deeded a touch over 11 acres in the 60's, so we own the property our 3 main fields are on.
Now 2 years ago for this tournament, we earned $14,000 in 14 days. Not bad for concession stand food! Oh, and we are one of the lower priced stands in our district. We do insist (with a bond) that the parents work ONE 2.5 hour shift per family, so that is not so bad. For post-season, each family pays $25 and we hire local teens. Worst part of the job for me? Every second Sunday, spending 2-3 hours cleaning the deep fryer...I mean YUK! Well, Rocky loves me when I come home stinking of grease, but other then that....So, that is where I will be found - working the grill, for the next 10 days weekday evenings and Saturday and Sunday. For some reason, Sunday is the longest day...games at 1, 3, 5, 7 ... 10 hours...oh my!

We do have a former WWHS player in "THE SHOW" at this time. His name is Kevin Barry and he is a pitcher for the Atlanta Braves. His first appearance in the majors was against the NY Yankees in a game the Yankees were ahead 8-0 I believe. He came in and pitched 3 shut-out innings. It was real easy to root from him to do well in that situation. The Braves need pitching and I was surprised Kevin was not up earlier.

His current line reads:
His MLB page can be viewed here.

Lots of rambling today...

Have a great Thursday afternoon/evening...

Things I can do without:

  1. Brittney Spears posing nude on a magazine cover...even when she is not pregnant the girl has lost any sexuality she once had...Now when Demi Moore posed nude...different story
  2. Any stories about Tom Cruise...just go away please
  3. Star Jones...this waste of flesh...the way she sold the rights to her wedding and refuses to admit she had surgery to allow her to lose weight...
  4. Ozzie Guillen, the manager of the Chicago White Sox...he has put his foot in his mouth so many times and refuses to admit any mistakes...and do not tell me about different meanings and cultures...you earn your living in the USA- get over it...
  5. The war in Iraq...nuff said - bring them home NOW
  6. Fans of American Idol winner Taylor Hicks who complain about every little thing. I read the boards at americanidol.com and shake my head ... "Leno better let him sit on the couch or we will write him and complain", "Why is Katherine on the show with Taylor, he is the winner?" ...etc. etc. etc -- folks - he won... time to go back to your lives...your being obnoxious only makes people not like him.
Things I would like:
  1. Potential buyers for my home...
  2. Something to watch on TV during the summer...
  3. The World Cup to end...yawn
  4. Parents to realize what their children are doing online. This girl that traveled to Jordan to meet an online suitor..what is up with that?
  5. The NCAA to try move into the 21st century with some of their rules. Why can't a student athlete hold a job so he can have some money on his own? All you are doing is opening the door to under the table payments...
  6. Tickets to the American idol concert, so I can see Taylor Hicks live.. On second thought I will wait until he tours on his own so I do not have to sit through pickles singing...
  7. Happiness, success and financial well-being for my family and all my friends...
Followup to 2 days ago... Asheville Tourists manager...ONLY a 10 game suspension and a $1,000.00 fine. Well fine could not be a lot...that might be a full month's salary for a manager of a Single A team... but only 10 days??? Does not give a warning to other managers not to do the same thing...

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Monday, June 19, 2006 0 Of Your Sparks

Just a few recaps on previously posted subjects...

The Diet Coke/Mentos video... well the guys that did it have earned over $15,000.00 already on the web site revver.com. sort of like here, they get paid for each time the video is viewed...It has been viewed 2.5 million times which earns those guys $15,000.00 and the site $15,000.00. I was not aware that they were posted on a site like that ...but I am sure my few readers did not lose them that much money.

The Department of Homeland Security released a report a week or so ago and in it they state that New York City's preparedness for a terror attack is less then it should be....
Ummm...aren't these the folks that just CUT THE FUNDING FOR NYC BY 40%?????

A Westchester, NY woman was arrested recently after buying bomb-making materials at a Kmart in California. She is part of a group who were planning on damage a U.S. Forest Services genetics lab and possibly a dam and fish hatchery near Sacramento. They were acting as part of the Earth Liberation Front.
"How can they keep those fish in a hatchery? That is so cruel fer sure - let's blow it up and set them free..." JERKS

Well, I am short on words today...and want to post this ....

Monday Giggles...

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Monday, June 12, 2006 2 Of Your Sparks

Just need a smile today, so we went searching the world of the internet for the dumbest stories we could find... Some you may have already read... hopefully not all of them...

Get on board the Stupid Train...keeping your hands and feet inside the rides at all times...

1) In Ohio, an unidentified man in his late twenties walked into a police station with a 9-inch wire protruding from his forehead and calmly asked officers to give him an X-ray to help him find his brain, which he claimed had been stolen. Police were shocked to learn that the man had drilled a 6-inch deep hole in his skull with a Black & Decker power drill and had stuck the wire in to try and find the missing brain.

2) Police in Los Angeles had good luck with a robbery suspect who just couldn't control himself during a lineup. When detectives asked each man in the lineup to repeat the words, "Give me all your money or I'll shoot," the man shouted, "That's not what I said!"

3) There's a rising star on the competitive eating circuit. California man Joey Chestnut downed 47 grilled cheese sandwiches in ten minutes this weekend in Las Vegas to set a world record. That's eleven more sandwiches than the old record of 36. Last month, Chestnut ate 50 hot dogs. Some say he's a threat to the reigning champ of food stuffing, Japan's Takeru Kobayashi. Chestnut won the grilled cheese contest sponsored by the International Federation of Competitive Eating, the same group that runs the annual Fourth of July hot dog eating contest at New York's Coney Island.

4) Graduating seniors at Pleasant Hill High School were in no rush to get to school for their final day. About a dozen of them drove to school Wednesday on riding mowers, forcing traffic on Highway 58 to slow to about 10 mph. "We wanted to make people wait," said Kodi Long, 18. "We were trying to teach them a lesson -- not to hurry." Ty Holloway, 17, was puttering along on a John Deere when he was stopped by a policeman. The officer laughed and sent him on his way when told of the circumstances, Holloway said. But police Sgt. Mike Wisdom said it was technically illegal. A riding lawn mower meets the legal definition of a motor vehicle and the statutes that apply to vehicles apply to riding lawn mowers, too. "Riding lawn mowers are not supposed to be on the highway," he said. "There's just a multitude of violations." Among the infractions: equipment violations (lack of brake lights, turn signals and horn) and lack of registration, licensing and insurance, Wisdom said.

5) One day I was working in the office at my college. I was asked to phone a list of 20 students and tell them that their exam for that Friday had been cancelled. So after I got to about the 10th person I realized that this was one of my classes. I went to lectures during the week and on Friday went to take my exam. But I saw no-one from my class there. Confused, I went to the office to find out what was going on, only to be told that the exam had been cancelled. The sweet little old receptionist told me that a young girl who sometimes worked in the office had phoned everyone. Perhaps, thought the little old lady, the girl who helped out had tried to reach me but hadn't gotten through. I felt so stupid since I was the one who phoned everyone. One of my prouder blonde moments.

6) I hate to tell on myself but.... One night, I was in a friend's 3rd story apartment. We were grilling food on the apartment balcony. We were smart enough to realize that this wasn't a safe action. We decided to go to the park to grill. I had to run to the toilet. After I wrapped up the business, I went and found that my friends were all in the truck ready to go. I decided to jump off of the balcony to get to the car quicker. I fell 3 stories and hit the concrete...a perrrfect cat-like landing on 2 feet. Too bad I broke my ankle and my leg. They rushed me to the hospital. I got fixed up with a cast and pain killers :). We returned to the park. I was on crutches and had to lay on my back and keep my leg elevated. They all teased me well into the night. After the party ended, everyone packed to leave. Everybody said BYE!! One of my friends yelled HEY MOE! We have to do this again sometime!! Yeah right.......

Some Funny Stories from Computer techs:
7) I was teaching an email course to novice users -- some of them I was explaining how to enter contact information in the address book, so the program could "look it up" for them. Bad choice of words.

  • Student: "So it'll look up phone numbers for me?"
  • Me: "That's right."
  • Student: "Does it have to be on the right page?"
  • Me: "Uh, do you mean the right screen, or...?"
  • Student: "No, I know it has to be my own computer screen. But when I hold the phone book up to the screen for the computer to look up the number, does it have to be on the right page?"
8) Giving instructions on how to use Microsoft Word 7:

  • Me: "Type in a few words, or a test sentence."
  • Secretary: (skeptically) "With what?"
  • Me: "The keyboard."
  • Secretary: "The what?!?"
  • Me: "Keyboard. The jobbie in front of you with the keys on it."
  • Secretary: "Oh. That."
  • Me: "Yeah, it works like a typewriter."
  • Secretary: "I don't understand. (types a few words) "Oh! Hey! It works just like my typewriter!"
  • Me: "Uh-huh..."
9) I recently overheard this family conversation:

  • My Mother-In-Law: "The computer you have works, right?"
  • My Husband: "Yes, it's brand new, why?"
  • My Mother-In-Law: "Well I was wondering if I could put mine like that."
  • My Husband: "What do you mean?"
  • My Mother-In-Law: "Well the big box, it's on the wrong side."
  • My Husband: "What big box?"
  • My Mother-In-Law: (pointing to the CPU case) "That one."
  • My Husband: "I don't know what you mean."
  • My Mother-In-Law: "Well ours is on the right."
  • My Husband: "It doesn't matter which side it's on, as long as the cable reaches."
  • My Mother-In-Law: "Really?"
  • My Husband: "Really."
  • My Mother-In-Law: "So that means I can put the printer anywhere too?"
  • My Husband: (chuckling) "Yeah, Mom."
And with that folks...your laugh for the day is over....
