Monday and a new week begins

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Monday, July 11, 2011 7 Of Your Sparks

It was a beautiful thing to watch and I mean even if you hate the New York Yankees - for whatever reason you hate a team...

The Captain is different. Even people who root against the Yankees, find they can not root against Derek Jeter. He has done it correctly from the beginning. He knows the history of the game. He knows the history of the Yankees. Even though he grew up in Michigan, he was a Yankee fan through and through.

Finally Friday...

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Friday, December 04, 2009 22 Of Your Sparks

When did this practice of putting loved one's pictures or names on your car window after they pass away?

I do not remember ever seeing this when I lived above the Mason-Dixon line, but it is VERY common down here in the South.

Do people do this where you live?

What is your impression of this practice?

I heard another theory on the “Tiger Incident” today and thought…’how do people come up with this s**t?’

The theory is that Elin found out about the other women and while Tiger was sleeping she began to beat him upside the head.

Tiger woke and fought off her blows and then realized he had to come up with some excuse for the bloodied lip and bruises, so he got in the car and purposely crashed it to account for the wounds…

There are concussions in football. WHAT? You didn’t know that?

You thought that all those men could play a game where you band and crash and knock and tackle and concussions would not exist?

Now there are teammates who complain when players with concussions do not play…

You know if doctors begin making all the decisions on who plays and who does not – the first thing that will happen is players will try and lie and cheat their way around the tests so that they can play.

Secondly, half the league will be on IR if doctors stop all players who have gotten knocked around from playing.

What to do? Better helmets? Well there are bigger helmets, but then the players will begin to look like The great Gazoo and no one wants that…do they?

Change the rules on tackles? You try and hold up on making tackles and there will be more injuries than we have today.

Rule that if a player has more than 3 concussions in a season they are sidelined? This might make sense if you can really determine the concussion occurred.

Congratulations to Mr. Derek Jeter of the NY Yankees for being named Sports Illustrated Sportsman Of The Year. The first NY Yankee to be given that honor in the 55 years of the award (it is as old as I).

Mr. Jeter is one of the good guys in sports. He has never been in trouble…no stories of him drunk in a club...no stories of hookers or drugs…never accused of slapping a woman around...plays every game hard...has respect for his opponents...

The man now owns 5 World Series rings…Off the field he began his TURN 2 FOUNDATION in 1996, whose goal is to “To create and support signature programs and activities that motivate young people to turn away from drugs and alcohol and "TURN 2" healthy lifestyles.”

He had an MVP caliber year, but once again he was not given that honor by MLBWA (the only major honor he has never won). That award went to the well deserving Joe Mauer of the Minnesota Twins.

BUT, Jeter had one hell of a year:
  • He batted .334, ranking him third in the AL
  • On Sept. 11, he passed Lou Gehrig's franchise mark for base hits, which now stands at 2,747.
  • He led the American League by reaching base 289 times,
  • He finished second in the league in hits (212),
  • He was third in on-base percentage (.406)
  • He was fourth in runs (107)
  • He was eighth in stolen bases (30)
  • He was named an All-Star for the 10th time, including the sixth time as a starter
  • He won his fourth AL Silver Slugger as the best hitting shortstop in the league
  • He earned his fourth Gold Glove as the league's top defensive shortstop.
  • In 15 postseason games he batted .344 with a .432 on-base percentage, three home runs and six RBIs.
  • He batted .407 in the World Series.
Additionally, this year Jeter was named the American League recipient of the Hank Aaron Award, given to the best hitter in each league, and was also the winner of the Roberto Clemente Award, given to the player who best displays skill on the field while giving back to the community off it.

With all of the drama athletes’ display today, Derek Jeter is a true Sportsman. I know many people who despise the Yankees…but to a person they all say “but how can you not admire #2, Derek Jeter”…He is one of the good guys.

Lastly, did you see this play in college football...?

Really, even if you hate football check this out.

Florida State's offensive line has been taught to not move from their stances if the opposing team comes across the line too early. This past weekend, it appears that Zebrie Sanders had been conditioned a little too well.

Now it looks like the ball was hiked too early, but there was never a whistle and the play went on all around the guy and ...well...and...you watch!

HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND

TREE AND LIGHTS THIS WEEKEND

Thursday Tidbits...

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Thursday, September 25, 2008 21 Of Your Sparks

And now to announce the winner of the AC/DC "No BUll - The Director's Cut" DVD. A number of you shared your reason for being awarded this prize in various degrees of humor and sincerity...I LOVE IT ALL! I hope I can continue to share the new and old music and obtain the give-aways when I can.

That said...

LIKE IT HAD TO BE SAID AT ALL?!?!?!?! GET ON WITH IT!

I will if you allow me to do so...This comment was the only one that included lyrics...and how can you not reward lyrics!

Hey if you let me win it, I will award you #1 again "NOT" lol! Whoever you chose will be very deserving of winning it, although a fan I have every album and they made, so I guess I'm gonna ride onnnn ride onnnn ride onnnn! ;D

So, ROGER...congrats my man...a true fan of AC/DC and we get a mini-concert to boot, your comment is the one this time. Send me your snail mail and I will get it out to you.

Thanks again for participating everyone!

Another day closer to seeing the greatest band still on the road today, in my humble opinion. Honestly, if you have a chance to see the Allman Brothers, take it. This lineup with Warren Hayes and Derek Trucks taking on the Dickie Betts/Duane Allman roles is as close to the original as it comes.

I keep thinking about putting bits and pieces of info out there now on this band and their history, but do not want to water down the Tuneage Tutelage for next week.

Nancy is on her way back from Durham and training...OH, did I tell y'all she got a new job! YUP...a better company, a better product to sell, a better life...I am so excited for her! She will work out of her home and have some more traveling to do, but the benefits are great and the incentives are attainable...OH and significant others are included in the incentives! WOO!

It appears they have canceled the Presdential debate for this Friday so that Senators McCain and Obama can get involved with the 'fixin' of our economy'...

I also heard they are unsure if the debate will be rescheduled because the timing is so tight. I deplore this. I insist they have a debate and there better be a Vice-Presidential debate also.

These are the times when the candidates must speak to the issues and not to the 'happy thoughts' they try and hypnotize us with...I am also curious is the $5,000,000 shelled out by Ole Miss will be refunded. The campus has been turned upside down the last few weeks with students inconvenienced as part of the campus were posted as unavailable. There were Secret Service undercover agents in "The Grove" - where the greatest tail-gating party in the world occurs (right Nancy!?!).

There have been undercover agents on campus for weeks, blending into the student body Now at the last second, it is canceled.

Reschedule gentlemen...reschedule.... See I posted last night when I had heard bits and pieces...now I know it is Senator McCain who can not multi-task...who has asked for a delay...He can't multi-task??? He wants to be President????

I THINK NOT!

And I really think you will hear an announcement that McCain will ask the date to be changed to the same day as the VP Debates were to be held, with a suggestion that the VP debate be canceled and the Presidential debate held instead...

My NY Yankees are out of the playoffs for the first time in 13-years. The longest streak by any team ever. The addition of the Wild Card certainly makes that kind of number more attainable, but no one else has done it but them.

This will be the first year that Derek Jeter does not play in the post season, a remarkable achievement in itself. Now, granted, he had a 'sub-par' year himself. Oh and BTW, sub-par for Mr. jeter is a .301 batting average, 11 home runs and 69 RBIs. The last number is where it hurt us this year.

There is talk that he has been hurting since being hit in the hand by a pitch earlier in the season and he has been asked about it many times. His response is always the same..."Everyone plays hurt during the season".

Class and Dignity...even if you hate the Yankees it is tough to hate a player like Mr. Jeter and be assured, he will be back with a vengeance next year.

OK, going back to the second band Greg & Duane recorded with (the first was called The Allman Joys and there is some music out there, but it is difficult to find), this is Hourglass...the song is "Been Gone To Long"...the record company wanted Greg and 'muted' the talent of the band during the recording of their two albums.

This was not included on the albums, but appeared on Duane Allman Anthology II.
When I digitized this, I lost some of the lower register in the beginning...Going to have to re-digitize that whole album I think....

ENJOY...

Building, Booting, Ballot, Baseball & Barry

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Thursday, September 27, 2007 15 Of Your Sparks

Won't be around during the day today. We are BUILDING a Habitat For Humanity house here in Memphis for one deserving family. Though not a true ServiceMaster employee, they asked if we wanted to volunteer and we jumped on the opportunity.

Since its founding in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller, Habitat for Humanity International has built and rehabilitated more than 150,000 houses with families in need, becoming a true world leader in addressing the issues of poverty housing. 300 of those homes have been built here in the US.

We were involved with one back in 200o 2000 (where is my editor!) and truly felt a warmth the day the family was able to move in. Our group is one of the last in the home, so we are doing the touch-up things....fictures fixtures(That dang proof reader must be asleep)and the like.

Ever been involved in one? Let us know...

So, last night Steroid-head played his last game as a SF Giant. It is ironic that the Giants have BOOTED him after getting their multiple sell-outs and can forever talk about the current home-run king being a member of their team...guess, giving him one more year might actually show they condoned how he did it. Katherine, you have to be disgusted by the way this was handled...

We don't like the guy...it IS obvious...right? But the Giants are acting like total asses on this one....especially when they say they would sign him at the end of next season IF he wants to retire a Giant...BUSH LEAGUE!

Now, which American League team will come up with the dollars and hire him as a DH?

Still feeling the effects of not sleeping well for a few days... arg...

OK, we will let you, our loyal guests cast a BALLOT on this one
(You can select two) - OH CRAP even a misspelling here, that we can't fix!:

In BASEBALL, the Yankees wrapped up the Wild Card this evening... High 5's to Tug, Travis and Bud and all the rest of you who bleed pinstripes as we do....OK, well Travis just wants them to spank the SUX...LOL

OK, TUG sent us this link last night and we had to share it for one main reason...

in case you have never seen it...watch when the countdown gets to :53... Yankees/Oakland playoff game... Ball hit to right field...the outfielder overthrows the ball and the runner is going to be safe at home...BUT out of no where comes Mr. Derek Jeter to catch the ball and flip it backward to the catcher to get the out...

THIS is a play that only a true superstar would have even put them self in a position to make...and one of the great things we have always loved about him...to this day, he calls his manager MR. Torre...He has so much respect for the people around him...

Close it today with a little Barry...NO, not Steroid-Head...LOL...sing it smooth my man..Barry White... yeah baby

Hope youu all had a special Memorial Day Weekend. Did you march in a parade? Did you go and watch a parade? We watched the local parade which - conveniently - begins directly in front of my house. Then we went and watched the Guns & Hoses Softball game, played between the local police and fire/emergency services squads. This was the first year and was conceived to assist one of our local officer's, who is suffering from cancer. Lot of fun...

There definitely is a come down when you get into a show like American Idol. I look at the calendar and see it is Tuesday and I immediately say "Oh great, Taylor sings tonight...", but he doesn't... oh well.

Derek Jeter did get his 2,000th hit on Friday evening. The "official hit" was a little dribbler that was fielded and then thrown wide to first base. I did not think it was a hit and was sorry to see it credited as one. But Derek settled that later in the game with a solid hit.
Congrats Mr. Jeter...you are one class act and a great ballplayer.

Yes, there is a new #2 on the Home Run list for Major League Baseball. Mr. Babe Ruth is now #3 on the official list. That is the official list...not the one that I follow. On my list, it goes, 1) Mr. Hank Aaron; 2) Mr. Babe Ruth... Same as the single season list which has Mr. Roger Maris on top with 61 home runs.

Search for a new job is still moving forward, though it is still just slogging along...same as the house for sale saga...Every street I drive down now appears to have 2-3 homes for sale. Hopefully something will happen soon...hopefully...hopefully...

From the Sports Illustrated "Sign Of The Apocalypse" - Alabama football coach Mike Shula had to switch churches after being hounded by autograph seekers, including one who was waiting at the end of the communion line with a football ... folks, this is just so wrong on so many levels...

For my Dead-Head friends out there...there is a new podcast each week hosted by Missouri Professor John Henrickson. The podcast features lesser known shows, so for true Dead-heads this is a goldmine. Hosted at KOPN.org, you can find more information here.

Keep that spark of insanity kids...It helps keep you an individual.

Long week, with my trip to Chicago and the fiasco yesterday on the trains...I was stuck for over 5 hours...soooo much fun ... wooooo

Part of it is also the comedown from the American Idol run I have been on for 12 weeks.
Knowing it is over and thrilled for Mr. Taylor Hicks, but still, knowing there is no show on Tuesday...what will I do???

Tonight Derek Jeter goes for his 2,000 hit. He has played in 1,570 games. If he gets the 2,000 hit in his 1,571 game he will be the eighth Yankee to hit 2,000 and the fifth-fastest to reach this milestone among players who made their debut since 1961. That would be faster then Don Mattingly, Paul Molitor and Pete Rose. It is amazing that in a recent Sports Illustrated Jeter was voted the most OVERRATED ballplayer by his peers. Overrated??? Let's see... Rookie Of The Year (1996); 2 Gold Gloves; All-Star Game MVP; World Series MVP, oh and those 4 World Series Rings...Overrated? Jealousy is more the contributing factor to those players who voted. (not to mention catches like the one shown on the right...)

Just for you trivia buffs... the 2 Yankees who got to 2,000 faster then Derek:
Joe DiMaggio - 1,537 games - 2,214 hits
Lou Gehrig - 1,576 games - 2,721 hits

The other Yankees who reached 2,000 and the number of hits they ended with:
Babe Ruth 2,518
Mickey Mantle 2,415
Bernie Williams 2,255 (still active)
Don Mattingly 2,153
Yogi Berra 2,148

Fleet Week in NYC...I know some of the ladies I met on the American Idol boards have been waiting for that information to be posted...I expect them to come a running to NYC anytime now!

So, the geniuses at Hasbro thought they could manufacture Pussycat Dolls figures and market them to preteen girls. Have these bozos ever seen the Pussycat Dolls and know what their act is all about???
An incredible writing campaign by parents - over 2,000 letters and emails - have shot that idea down...

Memorial Day weekend coming up. Not sure there will be a Monday posting...

Please remember all of the brave men and women who have served in our military and protected our freedoms.
