Five On Friday - Blues Legends

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Friday, October 01, 2010 7 Of Your Sparks

Please take some time and head over to TUNEAGE TUTELAGE and read my review of the new Barbara Blue album "Royal Blue".

It is a winner indeed!

Each week TRAVIS from "Trav's Thoughts" hosts Five On Friday where we get to select five songs of any mix we care....

Check out the other participants by clicking on his link above...and join in!

You can register for free at playlist.com and type in a band name and BAM the song will be there to assist in building your playlist.

Travis lays out some guidelines for this meme and they go like this:

1. Grab the banner, make your post title Five on Friday, and be sure to link back here.

2. Go to Playlist.com to make your play list of five songs. Choose a particular theme to share with us. You can simply post the play list, or you can add a little summary about what you are sharing.

3. I don't know how to make a specific linky, so be sure to leave me a comment to let me know that you participated.

4. No tags, but feel free to invite your friends to play along if they need a post topic on a Friday.

I am not a video guy for the most part, but today I realized that was the way to go this week.

Eddie James "Son" House, Jr. March 21, 1902 (could be disputed) – October 19, 1988) was an American blues singer and guitarist. House pioneered an innovative style featuring strong, repetitive rhythms, often played with the aid of slide guitar, and his singing often incorporated elements of southern gospel and spiritual music.

House was an important influence on Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson. A seminal Delta blues figure, he remains influential today, with his music being covered by blues-rock groups such as The White Stripes.

John Lee Hooker (August 22, 1917 – June 21, 2001) was an American blues singer-songwriter and guitarist, born near Clarksdale, Mississippi.

Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee...these guys are one of my earliest introductions to the true blues and I have been a fan since the first note

Sonny Boy Williamson (John Lee Curtis Williamson, March 30, 1914 — June 1, 1948) was an American blues harmonica player, and the first to use the name Sonny Boy Williamson.

Finally, the man who is considered "The Grandfather Of The Blues"...no video is available for him, but the music he made carries on today to so many artists both past and present. Mr. Robert Johnson...did he make a deal with the devil down in Clarksdale, MS? Was he poisoned? The tales have been around for years...the answers...buried away somewhere.

Five On Friday: Blues Harmonica and an A**hat

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Friday, June 18, 2010 19 Of Your Sparks

We have a winner....a brand new A**HAT has emerged...

GOP Rep. Joe Barton of Texas — the ranking member on the House Energy Committee — made a decisive splash in his opening remarks. A staunch conservative who has a long record of backing oil industry interests, Barton apologized to BP CEO Tony Hayward for the "shakedown" the Obama White House pulled on the company. (Barton has received more than $1.5 million in campaign donations from the oil industry, according to Open Secrets, a nonpartisan watchdog group.) You can watch the video here—the apology occurs at the 1:45 mark:

Ruby Tuesday - Ellis Island...Sonny & Brownie

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Tuesday, August 12, 2008 19 Of Your Sparks

Welcome to another addition of RUBY TUESDAY - click on the logo above to head over to The Teach's blog to see all the entries this week.

Well we are getting into the way-back machine today. The summer of 1999, Mom Joan, Dad Vince, Brother Richard and SIL Cindy, Sister Lynn and BIL Kevin, me and the ex and all the grand kids took on New York City for a day. It was a whirlwind that brought us out to Ellis Island (I had never been there), then to the Empire State Building and then to Little Italy (what is left of it, Chinatown has grown and taken over much of what was Little Italy) for a great meal.

Anyway...we went to Ellis island and saw my grandparents name on the wall...(the families have to pay for inclusion).

I got this shot of Matt and his cousins Candice and Joseph. Now remember, Matt is going to be a Junior this year and Candice and Joseph are entering Freshman. If I weren't feeling so good from going to the gym 5 days a week I might feel old!

Not the greatest picture. Working on the old Mac in Photoshop has gotten tedious it is so slow...I have not been able to swing buying the bundle for the new Mac...so as I am doing this post, I am downloading Gimp onto the new Mac. Roger swears by it, so I thought I would give it a shot.

Yeah and maybe the sign is not BRIGHT RED, but it is reddish in color...so sue me!

I am in an off-site meeting working on plans for our 2009 campaign all day, so if I don't get to visit you, I will catch up Wednesday.

Thanks to all those who left their opinion of the artists we featured on Friday. I am going to try it again this week, only featuring two this time.

These two gentlemen were my first real lesson in the Delta Blues. Freshman year at college working one of my late shift radio shows and just searching through the racks of albums. The names on the side of the jacket looked cool. Let's give it a listen...So I put the needle down on the vinyl and the sweetest sound filled my ears.

I was hooked...Mr. Sonny Terry (October 24, 1911 - March 11, 1986) and Mr. Brownie McGhee (November 30, 1915 - February 16, 1996) on guitar.

This is "Midnight Special", the way the music gods intended - in my opinion...

Midweek Music (BUT, not a Meme)

Well...we were out last night and didn't see American Idol...
Can't tell you who did well and who flushed the crapper...

Doesn't really matter -

Figuring that with the voting public, Jordin says bye bye

Not gonna be real surprised if it is Blake, but shocked if they dump Melinda...
