Welcome to 2012!
Let's catch up with the last two weeks.
Recovered all the music I could - yet lost about 1,800 songs. Most were live concerts I had traded with other Dead Heads and the like. I can get some back, but not all.
Bought a new external hard drive and iTunes now resides there and is working just fine.
Burned 10 DVDs as a tertiary backup to my music.
Had a great Christmas Eve with Nancy...enjoying some fish (not 7 different fishes though). We had baked clams, and mussels fra diavolo and scallops...and Nancy had a Lobster tail (I am allergic)
Christmas Day was cool...after the boys left to go be with their dad, we lounged in the bed watching movies all day.
New Years Eve we almost went out to see some friends play music, but at the last second decided to stay in and make dinner and have cocktails and champagne.
I flew to SoCal yesterday on business and will be here until Saturday. MUCH warmer here than at hoe, so that is a good thing.
Getting geared up for the International Blues Challenge in 3 weeks. Bought the new mixer with USB capabilities and it is working nicely.
So much to do before they happen...think I will get it all together.

Work is still koo-koo-krazy but I have a few minutes and I wanted to reach out and make sure y'all are behaving out here.
Saturday, Nancy and I spent the whole day cooking fudge to send off to family members. We made 8 batches, with me doing the measuring and the cleaning of the pot between batches.
When we were done, we were both exhausted.
I will be in Dallas next week printing our 2010 mailings. I have informed the printer to expect us to be there around the clock so that we can finish by Wednesday. Last thing I want to do is have to fly on New Year's Eve.
NYE has always been amateur night as far as I am concerned. I have rarely gone out that evening...the desire to go out and spend the evening with people who basically only went out once a year (why I call it amateur night) was not - to me - a pleasure...
Well there was the 8+ years I was a DJ and worked that night. There was one bar/hall that I did a lot of parties for, located in northern NJ and they hired me specifically every NYE.
This was great because I ended up knowing many of the people who came there to party. I did many of their weddings or anniversaries or birthdays over the years.
This was a fun group and on that night I would indulge in a few cocktails.
I miss being the leader of the party like that...but also have enjoyed the years when I did my 7-course meal party at home.
Last year we held one of those at Nancy's and it was the first time I actually had help in putting the party together. In years when I had done it in the past, help was not forthcoming...but now..WOW!
Then there was the one year (1992) where 10 of us went to St. Thomas and spent NYE celebrating in the Caribbean.
At midnight I was able to accomplish something I always thought about...I grabbed a bottle of Champagne and walked into the ocean, fully dressed, and sat down and drank the bottle. Only one person...my dear friend Lynne, decided to join me - so the two of us killed a bottle in about 15 minutes!
This year we are going very very quiet...just the two of us...a few bottles of Champagne and some tasty treats along with a few movies...

Nancy and I hope y'all had as great a time as we did. Our evening with TURNBABY from "And As The World Turns" and sometimes blogger BRAD from "Pointless Drivel" and Nancy's friend Aline was SPECTACULAR!
The other friends canceled the day before and we were not pleased by that, but we made the night great with only 5.
I will say that my timing was a tad off and we did not sit for the main course until just after midnight. I miscalculated the time on the Green Beans with Onions & Bacon and that put me behind. I don't think it mattered as all were certainly not starved throughout the evening!
Decided to enter 2009 with our first Vlog (other than the cooking and Tuneage posts)...

The back is still giving me problems...Making me crazy after 10 days. I can not sit for long. Standing and walking (and even laying down on my side) works, sitting...not so much.
Yesterday I visited the Chiropractor again and had a massage there and that really helped. It has kept me out of the gym for two weeks and I actually miss it. Plus I can feel poundage sticking to my ribs and I hate that.

Yesterday the music players were not there for a period of time. The website was down and that was the cause. They seem to have reappeared around noon or so.

OK, I know I told you that you would have to wait until after the party, but because I don't want to seem like a real pi**ant...the Appetizer Course will consist of Mini-Antipasto Plates...These will contain a couple of slices of Genoa Salami, a couple of slices of Prosciutto, a few green olives and a few black olives, a strip of roasted red pepper, a chunk of Parmesan-Reggiano cheese, a tomato and mozzarella Bruschetta, one or two anchovy fillets and a slice of mozzarella cheese.
The rest you will have to wait to hear about...
Be safe, watch out for the other people on the roadways...Enjoy those you are with for the coming of the New Year...
2008 ended up being a very special year for me. My relationship with Nancy grew beyond my dreams...my son Matt has had a good year and other than my not seeing him enough, he is doing wonderfully...
My family has been healthy (for the most part) and other than the back thing, I have made strides in getting my weight and health better.

Man it has been raw here in Memphis the last few days. Now Memphians keep saying it is cold, but it is only about 40 degrees or so, and that is not really cold. But it is raw...which is when it is chilly, damp, rainy and the temperature just sneaks through every inch of your body.
Now, I know many of you up North with snow on the ground are saying "p-f-f-f-f-t to you...want some real winter, come on back up here and remember what winter is all about."
But when you do move south of the Mason-Dixon and you get acclimated to a warmer climate...well the word 'winter' takes on a whole new meaning...
I overheard someone say "What if all that rain had been snow...wow, that would be so cool". Well, we had about 2" - 2.5" of rain in the last 48 hours and that would equate to somewhere around 2 - 2.5 feet of snow. From my observations, if Memphis had 2.5 feet of snow everything would be shuttered tight, there would not be any bread or milk to be found for upwards of 200 miles and the roads would be littered with cars in ditches and more car crashes then at Daytona Speedway during a NASCAR Sunday.
Actually tomorrow there is a 30% chance of snow flurries and already the bread and milk is flying off the shelves. WHO EXISTS ON JUST BREAD AND MILK?????
Why are they not buying meats and vegetables????

Then one of the guests comes along and spoils the whole thing by listing the menu in my comments. Brad, the former Mr. Fab from "Pointless Drivel" guessed the entire menu on his first try...

Soup: Campbell's Tomato
Pasta: Spagetti-Os
Salad: Tossed. That will be a nice break. I haven't had that done to me since prison.
Main Course: Fish Sticks
Dessert: Popsicles
Well, other than needing Dad Vince or Anndi from "Transition" as an editor to learn how to spell Spaghetti, he almost nailed it perfectly. He did forget that along with the Fish Sticks, I would be serving Ketchup as a vegetable.
I guess I could publish the menu, but then some of y'all will be real upset you are not coming. Thanks to Mother Nature, it appears I have some fixin' to do on the lights at Nancy's home. Yesterday we had thunderstorms, torrential rains and high winds all day and some of those lights are now no longer on the home. dang dang dang...and Heck-a-doodle!!!!!!!!!

Getting ready for this weekend. Nancy and I get to fly to Durham for her company's Christmas Party. All expenses paid! WOOOO! Should be a blast.
Y'all I think I have mentioned the New Year's Eve Dinner Party Nancy and I are hosting. It is going to be a blast with a 6-hour dinner being served.
I have mentioned this before, but in case you are new, we begin with Appetizers at 7:00pm and serve one course per hour until Dessert/Champagne/Celebration at midnight!.
I finalized the menu today and I am pretty happy with it.
What? You think I am telling y'all what it will be? No way! You will need to wait and see pictures after it is all done. I will say the courses are, Appetizer, Soup, Pasta, Salad, Main Course, Dessert.

AND...her oldest, Ernie is starring in the HS production of "Beowulf (on a budget)" this weekend.
This his first attempt at theater and he was awarded the lead! I go tomorrow, front row seat with the video camera charged and ready.

This is The String Cheese Incident...a jam band that came together in the 90's and found a niche putting on shows at ski resorts, summer festivals and small venues. Band members are Michael Kang (acoustic/electric mandolin, electric guitar, and violin), Michael Travis (drums and percussion), Bill Nershi (acoustic guitar, lap steel guitar, and electric slide guitar), Kyle Hollingsworth (piano, organ, Rhodes, and accordion), and Keith Moseley (bass guitar).
The band has essentially broken up a few years ago with each of the members doing side projects, but they tend to end up playing the same summer fests and areas, so there are times they are on stage together.

This is The String Cheese Incident...a jam band that came together in the 90's and found a niche putting on shows at ski resorts, summer festivals and small venues. Band members are Michael Kang (acoustic/electric mandolin, electric guitar, and violin), Michael Travis (drums and percussion), Bill Nershi (acoustic guitar, lap steel guitar, and electric slide guitar), Kyle Hollingsworth (piano, organ, Rhodes, and accordion), and Keith Moseley (bass guitar).
The band has essentially broken up a few years ago with each of the members doing side projects, but they tend to end up playing the same summer fests and areas, so there are times they are on stage together.

So, we said this would happen on Monday, but what the hell...the pictures showed up and we will share the story today...
Music Maestro
Bright and early on Sunday, me and Nancy left Olive Branch, MS and hit the highway for Lexington, KY...The car was loaded with a tray of lasagna that weighed just short of 8 pounds...(YUP, we said 8 pounds...there was a pound of pasta, 2 pounds of ricotta cheese, 2 pounds of mozzarella cheese, about 3 pounds of beef and sausage and gravy)...
We had some Pepsi and Diet Cokes, a few Ham and Cheese sammichs and tunage galore...
The ride was smooth and as we headed north out of Nashville the line of Kentucky fan cars heading into Nashville for the Music City Bowl became long and deep...luckily we were heading in the opposite direction...
We made it to Lexington with no problem and walked into Casa DH/TurnBaby and were greeted with warmth and smiles...
The lasagna went into the oven to warm up as we were shown to our Executive Suite on the second floor...
Wine was opened and toasts were made and we sat to eat and laughs ensued, but they were minor compared to what followed.
We sat around the kitchen table and for the next hour the listeners of TurnBaby Talks on BlogTalk Radio were entertained with a constant barrage of giggles and fun....Matt-Man called in to sing his "Free Rice - Raw Hide" parody written by the whimsical Travis...If you have not heard it, check it out HERE...BUT come back and hear the rest of the story...LOL
Katherine called in and was her usual humorous self and, it appears, made a decision based upon her time on the show...she also got me to name my friend (and if you are interested in learning it, you will have to go to the archives for now...hehehheehehe)
Dixie called in to play around and let us talk to the Marine, Matt, and we wished him good luck as he went off to his next assignment...
Doc Blogstein called in from his time in Maryland to just say hey and we truly appreciated it...
Mr. Fabulous called in and promised to whip up penis bracelets for me and Nancy....waiting waiting waiting...we will be waiting...waiting for our penis braceletsssssssssss (Rawhide still on our mind...hehehe)
As the show went on, the Sambuca came out and it made the show even snarkier...at one point Turn even put me on MUTE! ...as she said "take back her show"...hehehehehehe
After the show more cocktails were had and eventually we headed for bed...
Monday was a day of shopping and prepping for the party that evening...But first, TurnBaby cooked up a wonderful breakfast of eggs and bacon and biscuits...
We had been asked to make up an antipasto...one of our favorite things to do...so:

Anti & BondTurn was very happy with the finished product...so we hugged and smiled...

The Kentucky Football team was playing in the Music City Bowl vs. a team from Florida and we had some cocktails and began to watch...the got dressed and continued to watch the game awaiting the other guests...
First to arrive were M & D..two really nice people...M is a real down-to-earth guy and we hit it off....
Then D & B showed up and we all had dinner....TurnBaby made delicious Tenderloin of Beef, which had been marinated in Bourbon and Thyme and garlic and some great creamed smashed red potatoes and green and yellow wax beans...
As we were finishing dinner J & T arrived and we set up the poker table for some Texas Hold 'Em Poker...
Laughter abounded and the drinks flowed freely...
Just before midnight we ended the game and got ready for the countdown...
Kisses and hugs were flowing as freely as the booze....LOL..some asked not to include their pictures, so we are honoring their wishes...

The next morning we were up and with the left over French bread we were asked to make French toast with bacon and we did and then we headed back to Tennessee and Mississippi...
Found a White Castle and introduced Nancy to real 'mushies" (not the frozen kind from the store) and also hit a Steak & Shake for a Chocolate/Strawberry side by side shake ...
We did hit some snow in the mountains west of Nashville, but otherwise the drive was uneventful...
TY TY TYVM to TurnBaby and the DH for being such incredible hosts for our days in Lexington...
