Check out the results over at TRAV'S THOUGHTS. Travis will have the full recap and, if he can, some video clips from the show on Monday...Always a great stop in your blog reading journey!

I am trying to make blog rounds as much as possible these days but it is preparation time for 2010 and I am deep into wrapping up my 2009 budgets. To top it off, the IT darlings have clamped down again and there are some blogs they will not even let me see as I eat my sammich at lunch. I mean really folks, what is wrong with a blog that talks about Peace and dancing??? Yet Travis is now forbidden...as are a few others and every day they cut them down. OH and forget about seeing any pictures...

I know, I complained about this recently and even got scolded by my mommy who wanted to know how I could work and read blogs all day - but that is usually my lunch time routine.

Promise...slowly I will catch up with y'all...and I am going to bring back some music since it seems people are not having troubles loading The Couch since I backed down to two days on the front page. I also got rid of the Google translate widget, since I heard from a couple of people that they were getting errors because of it...

I love writing this blog, but if people can't get here and sit and relax, then it is no fun...

Now, if there is no post tomorrow it may be because my external hard drive crashed and I am in the middle of rebuilding it. After the radio show last night, I am recovering the files that were stored on it onto my main computer, then I have to erase and rebuild the external hard drive. During that portion of the operation I may not have access to my computer...and we have a business dinner tonight which could go late...

Love fresh baked goodies? Our friend MAGGIE MOO of "Ms. Maggie Moo Talks 2 U" has opened up an online store where you can purchase home-made goodies baked in her own kitchen!

Check out the items you can be shoveling down your gullet at Fleur de Lis Catering, or just click the link along the right side bar under the Friends Shopping Sites heading.

And remember that I told you about it, so you can send me some treats as a thank you!

The rain has been falling for the last two days and it is chilly here in Memphis...

Dang, it is even cold in my new cubical. I actually worked all day yesterday with my coat on! i am right under one of those ceiling vents and the air blows down on me. I am going to be climbing up there and redirecting the air-flow with some intelligent usage of tape and cardboard in the next day or so...

OK, I have to say we are moving backward very quickly here folks...check out this story:

An airline passenger forced to cover his T-shirt because it displayed Arabic script has been awarded $240,000 in compensation.

Raed Jarrar received the pay out last Friday from two US Transportation Security Authority officials and from JetBlue Airways following the August 2006 incident at New York's JFK Airport, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) announced.

"The outcome of this case is a victory for free speech and a blow to the discriminatory practice of racial profiling," said Aden Fine, a lawyer with ACLU.

Jarrar, a US resident, was apprehended as he waited to board a JetBlue flight from New York to Oakland, California, and told to remove his shirt, which had written on it in Arabic: "We will not be silent."

He was told other passengers felt uncomfortable because an Arabic-inscribed T-shirt in an airport was like "wearing a T-shirt at a bank stating, I am a robber,'" the ACLU said.

Jarrar eventually agreed to cover his shirt with another provided by JetBlue. He was allowed aboard but his seat was changed from the front to the back of the aircraft.

OK, I have some questions here.

Why, in this day and age does one wear a t-shirt like that while traveling? You have to know that it is going to attract attention and could cause you delays. Is that right and proper? Heck-a-doodle NO...but was it right and proper when my hair was down the middle of my back and a cop would stop me for questioning for no other reason?

HECK-A-DOODLE NO! But I also did not run to the ACLU to sue.

Why does a t-shirt like this cause so much attention? The slogan on the t-shirt "We will not be silent" was written in English and Arabic. Folks, this is the slogan of The White Rose, a non-violent anti-Nazi group that fought the regime of Hitler through the use of leaflets distributed in Munich. The six members of the group were eventually arrested by the SS and beheaded. But how many would know that? Why is even the Arabic language now making people nervous?

Is this worth $240,000.00????????? This country of ours is so law-suit crazy and it is totally out of control. How can any jury award that kind of money?

Look, as far as I am concerned, Mr. Jarrar is as responsible for starting this mess as the T.S.A. agent and the JetBlue employees who blew this whole thing out of proportion.

I mean seriously folks, I own at least 100 different t-shirts that I wear in rotation, but I think about where I will be before putting on the few that could be considered 'controversial'.

The TSA agent's comment that Jarrar wearing this shirt to travel would be like "wearing a T-shirt at a bank stating, I am a robber,'" was poo-poo'ed by the ACLU lawyers. Well, guess what Perry Mason? I think that is pretty damn accurate.

Would you have thought him more accurate if he had said that wearing the t-shirt to travel was like "wearing a t-shirt into a Mosque that says "We Will never Forget"?

When are we going to learn that all Muslims are NOT terrorists and that those of Arabic descent who are citizens of the USA have all the same rights as any other citizen?

Also, when will people learn that freedom of speech does not give you the right to slander others or cause others to feel their safety is being threatened?

Two words kiddies....COMMON SENSE. You do not stick your hand into the lion's cage at the zoo to tease the big furry guy. BUT, if you do and the lion rips your arm off at the shoulder, you DO NOT GET TO SUE!

Mr. Jarrar, next time, leave the damn shirt packed in your bag...I can not believe you looked in the mirror that day and said "yeah, cool shirt to travel in"...but if you did, you are as big an a** as the jury that gave you the cash.

Why do I get the feeling this gentleman knew EXACTLY what he was doing that day?

1989...The Rolling Stones were in a conundrum...For the last six years, the band had a ton of turmoil...Mick Jagger had begun to release solo albums and he and Keith Richards were not seeing eye to eye.

Then they went into the studio again and put aside their differences to record STEEL WHEELS. It marked a return to the basic Stone Sound and heralded the return to the road for the band as they put on their largest concert tour to date.

The album is also the last studio album on which Bill Wyman appears.

This is one of my favorite songs from the album. It could be said that it is autobiographical based upon the band's troubles...

ENJOY......

Thursday with TREATS!

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Thursday, November 13, 2008 16 Of Your Sparks

Hey all...this is a shorty, as I decided to go down to Tunica and meet up with Nancy and her boss last night and stay over and have dinner and gamble a tad...

As I type this, I am still 4+ hours from leaving, but I am itching to get out of here (work) and get in the car and head down...

I will let ya'll know how it went on Friday...

Hey!!! Like treats???? How about FREE TREATS???

Well Maggie, of Ms Maggie Moo Talks 2 U is having a little contest. She will pick one winner and maybe a runner up to get free treats that she personally made - HEY if you do not know Maggie is a trained Chef and makes some scrump-dillie-isious foods...

Here are her rules:

3. If you are chosen as the winner, you must email me to tell me what items stood up to shipping and which items did not. After all, that is the main reason I am doing this.

Contest ends at 5pm EDT, Friday 11/21. At that time I will compile all entries and pick 1 grand prize winner. Depending on the number of entries received, I may also choose a runner up.

Winners will be contacted via email (as well as announced here) by 10pm EDT 11/21.

And The Winner Is....

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Tuesday, July 01, 2008 22 Of Your Sparks

Thanks for your comments on my review of WHERE THE LIGHT IS yesterday...yes even the comments that said "Whatever you do, DON'T give it to (me)", "Not a big fan..." or even "Ever since he dated Jessica Simpson, I deleted him from my memory."

Two people actually stated I should give it to Dana because of the hardship she experienced over the weekend...how sweet is that!

Then there were the five people who campaigned for the CD including the Dana...and she was actually asking for her son...who caused the hardship by not being too smart!

I thought...do I reward him for breaking the rules? Do I feel sorry and give the CD to him anyway?

Ah...the trials and tribulations of holding a prize in your hand and controlling where it may end up...

Lu' wanted the CD because she did not know that much about John Mayer...

Starr spoke of seeing John early early on in his career and spoke of all the times she has told me to get into him...and even came up with an alphabetical reason:

A. HUGE FAN and have been since before he was a star.

B. I think I deserve some props for hounding you about him early on :P

C. C ....well C is for Canolli which you can't make me, therefore it should be replaced with CD...see it's alphabetically prophetic!

The Cannoli comment cracked me up - even though she spelled it incorrectly!

Another Desert Rat spoke of holding her lighter high and jumping up and down...and you know if she jumps up and down her boobies will shake, not a horrible thing! LOL

Mags told her story of seeing him live in CT with his parents on the stage and how his songs touch her emotionally...

OH what to do...what to doooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!

I have darlin' Nancy and don't really need to see boobies bobbing....Matt-Man, you can try and get ADR to do it for you...so sorry ADR...

Lu' I think the CD should go to someone who has a love for Mr. Mayer....

Mags...great story, but this time it is not going to push me over the line...sorry...

So, I am down to an Prophetic alphabetical excursion and a lump on the side of the head and a mom who spent hours in a hospital tending to their child. She took the correct steps in confiscating the bike in the height of summer and is obviously disappointed, but she still campaigned for him.

Well, the CD is firmly embedded on my iTunes and I rarely use a CD now a days...so I am going to do a Solomon like thing..

NO, I am not giving them each one of the two CDs that comes with the package. I am going to give each of them the CD package. One will be opened and used. The other still sealed, but I don't think either of them will mind.

Dana and Starr, email me your snail mail address and I will ship off your WHERE IS THE LIGHT - JOHN MAYER LIVE IN LA CD.

Congrats to both of you and thanks all of you for playing. There will be more giveaways in the future, and both of you are not allowed to compete for the next two give-aways...

THEMS THE RULES!

From the CD....the Tom Petty song, "Free Fallin'"

ENJOY.................

Coming up this week on DR. BLOGSTEIN’S RADIO HAPPY HOUR:
(Live on Tuesday July 1st at 9PM ET and forever archived at
BlogTalkRadio.

Continuing in the great Blogstein tradition of bringing you the Hot, Young, and Talented, Radio Jesus and Dangerous Lee welcome Talia Coles.

taliacoles700-700.jpg

Coles is a singer, dancer and an actress. She was discovered by Warner Music Group A/R maven JoJo Brim, and made such an impression that they gave Coles her own label! “Couture Music” was founded with Brim last fall.

Her new single, “This Little Thing“, is blazing up the charts on New York City’s Power 105 FM which must be a dream come true for this Harlem native.

Also, this week God stops by–or at least a man who claims to be God. Science Fiction writer Thomas M. Disch declared himself to be the Almighty in 2004, began answering questions AS God, and then published his first novel in nine years this summer.

We’ll find out if his new book “The Word of God” was divine intervention, if Disch is just a raving lunatic and we’ll ask him, if indeed he is God, how he feels about getting second billing to Talia Coles on the Radio Happy Hour.

All that, plus Vinny Bond drags his Big Leather Couch into the Radio Happy Hour Lounge to chat live with the listeners, Justin the Weatherman and we’ll take your calls at 646-652-4804.

Join us live every Tuesday night at 9PM ET. The Radio Happy Hour Lounge-a live chat room during show time-is a whole new reason to make sure you listen live! It’s the show within the show!

Thank you Anndi...

Our friend Layla (aka Barbara) from Writing From the Inside Out, bestowed upon us, this new award...

Be The Blog award

We love getting and giving our bling. We went to the site of the creator of this award, Me & My Drum and this is what it says about the award...

Earlier this year I was tagged with the blogging tip meme in which the tip I offered was “Be the Blog“. That phrase stuck with me because I think that really sums up what a successful blogger does. And what I mean by successful is that they make it their own, stay with it, are interactive with their readers, and just plain have fun.

Since then I’ve been thinking about creating an award of my own, but with so many out there, it’s hard to find a niche that remains untapped for recognition. So I said, “What the heck?”, and decided to shape the phrase into an award called (you guessed it): Be The Blog.

So, with that in mind, we bestow upon the following...the BE THE BLOG AWARD. Now, if you do not like the 'midnight oil' version, there is a pink and a Cabernet version over at Me & My Drum...

Grab your bling kids....and spread the word...

We went on a rant over at Travis' site yesterday over the music selections chosen on the "Dancing With The Stars" program. If you are a regular reader over there, you know Travis has also complained about it this year.

Well this past week, it was just the worst you could imagine.

A Viennese Waltz to the theme from "Harry Potter"???? OH sure, as Travis pointed out, that is some romantic music to choreograph....sheesh

The other sore thumb was a Cha Cha to the ROLLING STONES "Brown Sugar"!.... Are they out of their ever lovin' freakin' mind?????

The rest of the music was also very weird. If you are going to ask someone to dance the jive, why would you not do it to a Big Band Sing song?

This is our first season watching this show, and we have enjoyed it greatly (OK OK, it has much to do with the SHOES, but we still enjoy!)...but we did find our mind wandering...
HA NOW THAT IS A KICK...HIS MIND WANDERING...SINCE WHEN DOES HE HAVE ONE
WHY ARE YOU SO CRUEL
LISTEN WHOOSIE...I AM THE BAD VOICE..GET WITH THE PROGRAM
BUT WE COULD HAVE SO MUCH MORE FUN IF YOU WERE NICE..OUCH...STOP THROWING THINGS..

Would you two please quit it out!

Where were we? OH yeah...with the sucky music selection, we found ourself not enjoying the dancing as much as we should. Hopefully this was a one week situation where they asked a couple of tone-deaf interns to do the selections...

Welcome back to "Make fun of celebrities" on The Couch:

(Or you might not...)

We are just feeling real good tonight (had a real nice evening), and smiling and all and this song came up on the i-Tunes shuffle...well, hell...PERFECT...All y'all might think we are crazy, but this song makes us want to get up and dance....

From the brilliant At The Fillmore East...yup...ALLMAN BROTHERS...

The back and forth between Greg's vocals and Duane's slide guitar is just incredible.

Originally recorded by Blind Willie McTell, and Duane taught himself to play slide guitar by practicing it over and over after hearing the Taj Mahal version.

Butch Trucks and Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson, the two drummers lay down a pounding blues beat while Berry Oakley completes the hot rhythm section.

This is also the song the band played at Duane's funeral with Dickie Betts taking over the slide part from that point on....

ENJOY!

Whimsical Wednesday

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Wednesday, November 14, 2007 18 Of Your Sparks

OK, so this is starting to become a habit...we have a full day and things are going a mile a minute and then BAM! it is 10:00pm at night and our brain is semi full of barely incoherent thoughts....

Sort of like having 1,000,000,000,000,000 little mini-Matt-Men running around the room that is our brain like a group of toddlers in an overcrowded day care just after they shared cupcakes to celebrate a birthday.....

LOOK OUT FOR THAT KID, HE IS EATING PASTE!

Television on in the background... ESPN SportsCenter talking about this Pac-Man Jones and his sentencing in Las Vegas. Sheesh...he gets off after the death of a bouncer at the club pleading no contest to conspiracy...and his lawyer is asked 'what is your client's mind-set' and the response is 'to get back to playing football'...DUDE get your life together, you spend more time in police stations than Jack Web for crimminy sake....

OK, OK, we know...'arrested but never convicted'...he is a walking talking illustration to show your kids about how NOT to act...

Sorry...we got lost there for a second..the image of a (would it be a gaggle? a herd? a flock?) of Matt-Men all as toddlers...running rampant...

When we grow up we want good friends like OJ Simpson has made...they are rolling over on him like Ron Goldman's family set this whole thing up....

HEY, if it was someone in my family that the un-convicted killer had murdered, we would come up with a scheme to get him back...

Someone please stop that kid from running with scissors....

The Washington Wild Things play in the Frontier League and are located in Washington, Pennsylvania. Yesterday they tendered a formal offer to one Barry Bonds. This is from their web site:

Washington, PA - The Independent Frontier League’s Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, have offered a contract to Barry Bonds, according to officials.

A move to the Wild Things’ organization would give Bonds the opportunity to return to the market where he started his Major League career. Bonds debuted with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1986, playing seven seasons in Western Pennsylvania prior to signing a contract with the San Francisco Giants in 1993. “Many of the great one’s eventually return to where their careers began,” said Wild Things General Manager Ross Vecchio. “Babe Ruth began his career with the Red Sox and then finished with the Boston Braves; Willie Mays started with the New York Giants and finished his career with the Mets; and, of course, Hank Aaron began and finished his career in Milwaukee (Braves & Brewers). This contract gives Barry the opportunity to play once again in Western, PA as he continues his career.”

According to the Wild Things, Bonds’ contract offer includes a base salary as well as a number of incentives. “He will have the opportunity to meet certain bonus levels based on breaking any Frontier League single-season offensive record,” explained Vecchio.

Bonus Level A for hitting 36 Home Runs (record 35 by Morgan Burkhardt in 1998)
Bonus Level A for 101 RBI (record 100 by Pete Pirman in 2005)
Bonus Level A for 86 Base on Balls (record 85 by Burkhardt in 1998)
Bonus Level B for breaking single season record in any of the following categories: batting average, games played, at-bats, runs scored, hits, total bases, doubles, triples, hit by pitch, and/or stolen bases

In addition, Bonds’ contract offer includes other considerations including a single king-sized room when the team is on road; 50% of all net proceeds of individual Barry Bonds/Wild Things merchandise; and The Wild Things will provide Bonds a host family if needed.

Let's review that press release for a second...Mr. Vecchio is equating the Washington Wild Things with the NY Mets and the Milwaukee Brewers (OK, that may not be a stretch!)...what do they put in the water out there in Western PA??????

Now...let's see, 'YO Barry, you can stay with a host family if you do not want to rent an apartment in Washington, PA'...well he might need it...base salary is somewhere south of $2,000.00/month...LOL...

'Oh Barry-dear, come on down and get your Captain Crunch and toast before you go play your little baseball game'

OH and he gets a single king-sized room on the road...and 50% cut on merchandise...

Gotta love this stuff...they are giggling in the Wild Things offices today....'hehehe first we name the team after a character in an off-beat baseball movie and not we are gonna sign Barry Bonds and then we will take over the National League!!!!!! bwahahahahahahahahahha'
