Five On Friday - Standards

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Friday, December 30, 2011 4 Of Your Sparks

Check out the other participants by clicking on the link to the left...and join in!

You can register for free at playlist.com and type in a band name and BAM the song will be there to assist in building your playlist.

Travis lays out some guidelines for this meme and they go like this:

1. Grab the banner, make your post title Five on Friday, and be sure to link back here.

2. Go to Playlist.com to make your play list of five songs. Choose a particular theme to share with us. You can simply post the play list, or you can add a little summary about what you are sharing.

3. No tags, but feel free to invite your friends to play along if they need a post topic on a Friday.

Last Five On Friday for 2011. I am so glad Travis came up with this fun idea. I have been exposed to music I would not have heard...followed Progressions that were amazingly well thought out...every Friday a group of people spend time to put together their sets hoping to share, hoping to entertain and they always do.

As I mentioned the other day, I had a fatal hard drive crash. Well I was able to retrieve 48+GB from my deleted files thanks to the wonderful Data Rescue 3.

Yesterday I purchased a new 1TB external hard drive and created a new iTunes Library. Then I brought all the files which were recovered over into that library.

There were a lot of files which were corrupt. Bits and pieces of songs and podcasts. Those got trashed.

The library was about 1,800 songs short of where I was before the crash. I found a huge portion of that loss was the music I had digitized from cassette from the Warner-Chappelle collection I had copied from a friend back in the early 90's. It was a 20 CD collection of music from the Warner-Chappelle Publishing. So many great songs from the 20's to the early 90's were included.

I have spoken to a friend who is going to try and get me the collection to reburn. I am hopeful...

So many of those songs were what I call Standards. The great music of Ella, Frank, Dean, Robert, Duke, Patti, classic show tunes. So today, five of those songs I know are no longer residing in my iTunes...

It could have been much worse, so I am thankful I was able to save so much. Now a little prayer the collection can be sent to me and I will be closer to normal.

BACK-UP your valuable data...music, photos, etc. I am already burning DVDs of playlists as a tertiary backup and looking into using the iCloud to ensure nothing is ever lost again.

Have a safe, healthy New Year. Rememebr, New Year's Eve is Amateur Night...be careful.

Tipsy Tow offered by AAA: You don't have to be a AAA member, from 6pm-6am on New Year's Eve/Day they will take your drunk self and your car home for FREE.

From 2010 to 2011 - A New Road

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Monday, January 03, 2011 12 Of Your Sparks

Hey all...thanks for coming back and taking your seats on The Couch. Looking to get back to a 5 day a week posting schedule, so I hope you join me...2011 has some obstacles, but at the same time it promises to bring some new interesting achievements...I am not one for New Year's Resolutions. Personally, I do not believe in them. If you want to do something, you just do it. You do not wait until one special day to change your life.

I am looking to do that every day moving forward. Getting back in some sort of shape is on the list of goals. I am also looking forward to growing my relationship with Nancy. I hope that the brand for Music On The Couch continues to grow further. It would be nice if I could rope off time to finish all the video transfers from Matt's youth which is on VHS at the moment. Speaking of Matt, it is planned that he come down and spend some time with us this summer. Something to look forward to indeed.

Before we do all that, I want to reflect on the last few weeks...because they have been special, even though I was a bad partner.

You see, on December 29th, we celebrated:

As I drove from Boynton Beach, FL to Cordele, GA, Nancy got to answer all the wishes sent to her via email and Facebook, sitting in the passenger seat. We then went to dinner at a nice place called The Olde Inn on Blackshear Lake, just outside of Cordele.

The next day, we finished the drive home and spent a relaxing New Years Eve watching "Sherlock Homes" and "Blind Side" and eating all sorts of little noshes.

But before that, on December 22nd, Nancy and I did the 14.5-hour drive straight through. 3 stops for gas/rest room/ driver change breaks. I did the first 5.5 hours, Nancy did 6.5 hours and then I did the last 2.5 hours. At the end I had to promise no more than 12 hours in any one day ever again! LOL

The time with Mom Joan and Dad Vince was great. They and Nancy got to spend some quality time getting to know each other better. I tried to help dad with his multiple address books and getting them to the iPad. I did not do so good with that based upon his desires, so he is rebuilding it all. OOPS.

Nancy and I got to go to the ocean ... but only one day, because it was 40 degrees the whole time we were there and the wind was blowing so strong...it was COLD!

When we first got there, it did not seem cold...

But all the chairs were up to block the wind...

The OCEAN!!!

Those are OCEAN SMILES

Thank goodness for the sweater in the car!

Toes in the sand!

Together

Oh, and we ATE! So much food over the course of the week. Some great Fish and Chips on the beach at John G's...some excellent Italian at Portobello Restorante...fantastic tenderloin on Christmas day with just the four of us...and of course, Christmas Eve was the 7-Fishes dinner.

A spread made with anchovies (1) prior to dinner
Fish salad with Scungelli (2), Calamari (3), Scallops (4), and Shrimp (5)
Linguini with Clam sauce and Littleneck Clams (6)
Mussels Fra Diavolo (7)
Baked Calamari
Fried Shrimp
Fried Fillet of Sole (8 - bonus fish!)

We spent the night with two special couples, friends of mom and dads. Ann Marie and Joe and Al and Nancy. The eight of us ate until we almost burst. We took some time after the Linguini to sit and watch the rough cut of the DVD I put together from all the pictures taken on our Family Cruise.

Wow..could have made this two posts! LOL

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Nancy and I hope y'all had as great a time as we did. Our evening with TURNBABY from "And As The World Turns" and sometimes blogger BRAD from "Pointless Drivel" and Nancy's friend Aline was SPECTACULAR!

The other friends canceled the day before and we were not pleased by that, but we made the night great with only 5.

I will say that my timing was a tad off and we did not sit for the main course until just after midnight. I miscalculated the time on the Green Beans with Onions & Bacon and that put me behind. I don't think it mattered as all were certainly not starved throughout the evening!

Decided to enter 2009 with our first Vlog (other than the cooking and Tuneage posts)...

Hope y'all enjoy....

And this is the promised visit to Graceland Video...

HAPPY NEW YEAR...

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Wednesday, December 31, 2008 20 Of Your Sparks

Nancy tried two times to leave comments while she was away and neither of them showed up. Last night when she got home, she posted this comment and I wanted y'all to know she appreciated your wishes...

OK this is my 3rd attempt to post ...

Thank you everyone for your sweet Birthday Wishes. You made a tough day so much easier to deal with.

Wishing everyone a Happy, Healthy & Prosperous New Year!

We both want to wish you all a wonderful celebration of the New Year no matter how you celebrate (or not celebrate as the case may be)...

Thank you for your visits, comments and support this year...y'all are really considered friends...and some of you have become most excellent friends this year - even though we have never met...

I send a wish for happiness, health, financial security and LOVE for all of you in 2009...

My Angel Nancy...this is going to be a spectacular year for us!

Matt...I Love you so and hope that this year you find your path...maybe in Texas

Some music to keep you company until next Monday...

Again...LOVE YOU ALL...HAPPY NEW YEAR...BE SAFE...

A 5 song mix...ya gonna have to listen to see who is included...heheheheh

The Year That Was...

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Tuesday, December 30, 2008 32 Of Your Sparks

An email showed up yesterday and this is what it said:
Sorry kiddo - you got that part of the Christmas Eve meal tradition all wrong.
It was the Marini side of the family (or as you should have referred to it) -
Dad's side of the family that did the Christmas Eve "thing" or actually Grandma Amelia who annually prepared the seven fishes etc. etc.
Love,
Dad, representing Amelia's side of the story (which has been acknowledged by Mom :)

PS If you wish, you may print this in the comment column

I really do not have clear memories of Christmas Eve's with Grandma Amelia and Grandpa Ernest...I do remember the Christmas Eve's at Cousin Donnie and Linda's...

At least we got that straightened out!

The back is still giving me problems...Making me crazy after 10 days. I can not sit for long. Standing and walking (and even laying down on my side) works, sitting...not so much.

Yesterday I visited the Chiropractor again and had a massage there and that really helped. It has kept me out of the gym for two weeks and I actually miss it. Plus I can feel poundage sticking to my ribs and I hate that.

Yesterday the music players were not there for a period of time. The website was down and that was the cause. They seem to have reappeared around noon or so.

Remember to check out Part Two of the Radio Happy Hour beginning today.

Some funny stuff in Part One...and more during Part 2...

OK, well work for a while today and then it is time to get into NEW YEARS EVE DINNER PARTY mode...

OK, I know I told you that you would have to wait until after the party, but because I don't want to seem like a real pi**ant...the Appetizer Course will consist of Mini-Antipasto Plates...These will contain a couple of slices of Genoa Salami, a couple of slices of Prosciutto, a few green olives and a few black olives, a strip of roasted red pepper, a chunk of Parmesan-Reggiano cheese, a tomato and mozzarella Bruschetta, one or two anchovy fillets and a slice of mozzarella cheese.

The rest you will have to wait to hear about...

Be safe, watch out for the other people on the roadways...Enjoy those you are with for the coming of the New Year...

2008 ended up being a very special year for me. My relationship with Nancy grew beyond my dreams...my son Matt has had a good year and other than my not seeing him enough, he is doing wonderfully...

My family has been healthy (for the most part) and other than the back thing, I have made strides in getting my weight and health better.

Part 1 of our New Year's Eve Concert for y'all...I just selected 6 songs from the Warner/Chappell Collection. Now, understand that these were arranged in alphabetical order, so I am only into the "C's"...
"Careless Whispers" WHAM!; "About Quarter To 9" Al Jolson; "And She Was" Talking Heads; "Beat Goes On" Sonny & Cher; "Ain't We Got Fun" Doris Day & Danny Thomas; "Begin The Begine" Ella Fitzgerald

Part 2 will be up tomorrow...See y'all in 2009!

LOVE YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Thank to everyone for their comments on the redecorating done here. We have tweaked already, darking the red that appears in the sidebars.

We have gotten one complaint of the vibrancy of the blue. Is this something that disturbs anyone else? If it bothers your eyes, you will not spend time here and of course that is the reason we are here..

So, while the world was celebrating the beginning of a new world, Saddam Hussein was executed for his crimes against humanity.

Tisha at Serenity Quest had asked if he should have been executed or put into jail until he died. To THE COUCH, what was done benefited everyone concerned. Putting him in prision would have meant paying for his upkeep for - what? - another 20-30 years? Hundreds of thousands of dollars? Nope.

Unfortunately, we are still occupying the country and he did still have many followers. Evidently those followere include anyone never tortured by he or his sons, or those who did not know someone who had been. THE COUCH thinks this is probably a small number given all of the pain he was responsible for over the years.

None-the-less, our troops and those covering them have now been subjected to the backlash of these supporters and will continue to be so.

Another reason for our President to try and restore some respectability to his legend by bringing our men and women home and out of harms way.

Let me tell you how to not spend New Year's Eve. Sitting in bed, with some tid-bits to eat and OJ and two boxes of tissues and aspirin and aches.

Nope, not the way to do it at all.

HOPE Y'ALL FOUND BETTER WAYS!

Wondering if you have heard the story of Jim & Mary Walker. They live in Colorado. They have snow. Lot's and lots of snow. They need a new snowblower and need money.

THE COUCH, having inside sources in every single home in the world...was able to obtain a recording made of the original conversation held in the Walker household.

"Hey Jim, what can we sell so that we can get you that new SNOWblower and then you will not drop dead of a heartattack and leave me to shovel all that crap outside?"

"How the hell do I know Mary, and anyway how do you think you are going to have a garage sale.. don't you see all that SNOW outside??? I just wish it owuld all go away."

"Well if I could make all the SNOW go away, we wouldn't need the moeny to get you a new SNOW blower...ummm wait.. did you see on ebay someone is selling ghosts? Maybe we can sell some of the SNOW and make the money."

"Who the hell would buy SNOW???" "How about those fools in the south? They never get snow. Or someone in Hawaii? No snow thre."

So, yup, ya got it...right HERE on ebay, you can bid on SNOW. The starting bid is $0.99 and only 10 bids will be accepted. FOUR people have already bid.

Only and they promise no yellow snow, but will not guarantee state of the product upon delivery. But, you can show up at their home and pick it up yourself.
THE COUCH will not be bidding on this product. We have an inside with TUG in Hell, CO, so we can get SNOW whenever we darn well please....right Tug?!
Speaking of cold and snow, yesterday as we did the spanning the world of New Year's, we made a mistake and are being taken to task for it, so if you happen to go back and look, we are no longer waving to Coco in Nova Scotia - but are now waving to her in New Brunswick, Canada where she actually lives.

All suggestions will be taken into consideration. We have begun formulating the next installment of the MONDAY MATINEE.

Thanks for sitting...

look forward to moving forward in 2007.

Of course we offer you music to begin your year…

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Thursday, December 28, 2006 43 Of Your Sparks

Well the general contractor has arrived and
promises to be through for the unveiling on
NEW YEAR'S DAY

We are looking forward to starting off 2007 with a bang
and continuing to post a minimum of 5 days a week...

The Couch moved over to Blogger on March 16 of 2006 after coming into being over on the American Idol site. The Couch came into being over there because the Taylor Hicks Threads kept getting deleted by the ijits who moderate over there.

We began to kid that it was getting tiring having to lug the Big Leather Couch from thread to thread. And on the personal blog, we began to critique each show.

I would rate the performances and predict the bottom three and my choice to say goodbye. I did pretty good, and two days out of the week,
The Couch was dedicated to Idol.

We began with a readership of two...three...maybe more with one or two comments a day. We commented on the world, silly people, lunatics, celebrities, my sojourn from free-lancing to total unemployment to finding the current position which resulted in my move to Memphis.

The Couch ranted on FEMA and environmental terrorists. We held a few pity parties and even left once or twicebut only for a couple of days.

For the most part we have posted 5 days a week.

You were introduces to my family and
our lives, both good and bad, with special tributes to Joan & Vince (the parents).

Posts were written honoring our Veterans and our Founders. We remembered Duane Allman, Thurman Munson, Jerry Garcia and Wade Winter on the anniversaries of their deaths.
You were introduced to my "first loves" and relived September 11th with us.

And all the while, we met more and more people across the Bloggosphere.
We found out Fred had a blog and let us hear about his life.

Cathy allowed us to be part of the difficult birth of her grandson, and Mo brought us 7 silly Questions.

Sanni always has a cup espresso hot for us and Sonny (who is NOT John!) brings us smile and cute stories. Lizza allows us to see her world in the Phillipines and introduces us to new blogs each Saturday.

Then Mimi brought us Peace Globes and Dating Horrors. We learned about tape radio WTIT from Bud and laugh constantly at his cutting humor. Miranda has allowed us to be a part of her life from way to close to the North Pole!
I saw one day I was linked from a Dr. Blogstein and went to find wit, intellegence and down right good times. The good Dr. brought Tisha to THE COUCH and us to her site. A nice Bronx girl who has made her way to Israel and now Brussels. Lola was also introduced at the Dr. B's and wooo...the girl is a blast.

We linked up with Starrlight and are now watching as her clock tells us how much longer before she heads to Maui (huff and pout)...

We met, from the desert, Songbird and from the mountains, Tug from HELL, CO...Need a shovel still?

Peggy spoke to us about Thanksgiving and we haven't heard from her again and hope she is ok.
From Pittsburgh to New York, BeckEye brings her unique take on music and the pop culture.

Maggie
is living the life we secretly wish we could have, becoming a chef. Tiggerprr lives near the ocean so arg! Just kidding...and TC let us hear her talented music.

Many many came over from the Bestest Blog site where we now have Blog Carnivals. Maybe THE COUCH will even get a BBOTD this year.

Some we met through Thursday Thirteens, some Wordless Wednesdays.

Of course our core audience from the beginning were the group of wonderful people we have met through a Gray-haired soulful singer on a reality show. Taylor Hicks introduced me to some incredible people. Many have blogs, some don't.

THE COUCH will be going to Birmingham, AL on March 10th for the Taylor Hicks concert in his home town at the Alabama Theatre... There I will get to meet Robin and Wayne, &TinaT and Right and dozens more.

Some of those who can not be there include my birthday twin, my Sista' From DA BRONX - Busy, The Newlyweds Sue and Frank. Dana will be seeing him but not in B'ham.
Then the others we will have to meet at another time are the DAMM DUCK!, Diana, Travis, Jo and Lynn, Bex and Gail, Yoda and Tez and Julie and Amy and Amanda
Coco, Anndi, Meri and Angell are foreigners so they can't be there! HUMOR FOLKS..

THE COUCH will be lucky enough to meet Maryfly, Dixie, Bento, Pia and Duff....what? OH... they are sneaking Anndi across the border dressed as a duck. sssssssssssssssh
Turn will be there, we met in Louisville. TayMyFav worked wonders and got us all rooms!

The problem with doing this is we just know we missed one or two people who have been a part of this - if you are one of those, we apologize.

Thank you to everyone who has ever stopped and sat on
THE COUCH this year. Your readership and comments has certainly shaped parts of the way we present ourselves. Stealing little bits and pieces of your style and pinache.

To all of you, and to your families and friends
THE COUCH sends out warm wishes for a safe and happy New Year's Eve and for y'all to be bestowed with the greatest of happiness in 2007!!!!

OK STAND BACK..
THIS SUCKER IS COMING DOWN..

SO, LET'S PARTY...

St. J - P.B.U.A.B.W.A.B

Thanks for sitting on THE COUCH, hope you enjoyed your stay.
