Monday and a new week begins...

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Monday, September 19, 2011 3 Of Your Sparks

Ever have one of those weekends...Not that it is a bad weekend...or an especially good weekend...not a weekend where you worked the entire time...not one of those weekends where you did absolutely nothing?

Yeah...I had one of those this weekend. Woke up TOO early on Saturday and took care of some business for MUSIC ON THE COUCH
BLATANT COMMERCIAL PLUG
Tonight's show comes to us with the assistance of good friend Julie who saw The Brighter Side Band at a Blues Fest in Canton.

She called me during their set to give me a cell-cert (which never really work, but we all love them anyway!) and after listening to some of their music on line I realized they were "Musicians You Should Know".

Then I sit with Rich deCicco who is the front man for the group The Ladies Of Sport out of Brooklyn NY. Their blend of pop-rock is cool and I hope you enjoy them also.

Now, I know this is week one of the Fall TV Season...and of course there is Monday Night Football...so aren't you so dang lucky that you can download the podcast after it ends and listen any time you want! You can even listen in parts if you choose!

END BLATANT PLUG
With Nancy having been gone the entire week and having long days, we opted not to drive the 2 hours to Greeenville, MS for the Blues Fest there. It is a great time and we knew a few people playing, but Helena and The Biscuit is just a couple of weeks away, October 6, 7, and 8.

The lineup is stellar once again with Buddy Guy, Delbert McClinton and Keb Mo headlining the three days. The cool part of this festival is the two second stages, which are free to attend. One is now called The Rising Biscuit stage where up and coming bands get the chance to show off their stuff. One of our past Couch-sitters, Cee Cee James is getting her shot on that stage. On the Lockwood-Stackhouse Stage, we will get to see friends Papa Don McMinn and Nightrain, The Wampus Cats, Andy Coates,
On the main stage, Lionel Young Band gets to perform as part of their winning the 2011 International Blues Challenge, along with Reba Russell and Room Full of Blues with James Cotton.

So many great bands are going to be there, the difficult part is deciding who to see and who to miss...

Digging my Fantasy football teams so far. This week's games are not all decided, but so far I like the distribution of points I am getting from the players on the teams. The money league is looking sweet.

Thanks y'all for coming!

  • Friday afternoon - Had my first feature published on AMERICAN BLUES NEWS where they used my review of Barbara Blue's new album "Royal Blue", which you can find HERE. This week my three day review of the Arkansas Heritage and Blues Festival (now the King Biscuit Heritage and Blues Festival). I hope to be a regular contributor there.
  • Friday night - big Yankee comeback
  • Saturday - big Yankee stumble
  • Sunday - NY Giants win
    • Doc's Blog and Twitter League - win 2 - 4- 0 (yeah, not so good here)
    • Jay's Open Bar League - loss - 3 -3
    • ABL Fantasy League - loss - 4 - 2 (thanks Phillip Rivers and your -3 points)
    • King Of The Hill Survivor League - win - 1 out of 3 of our "teams" left - 27 out of 126 teams left
    • Phone Calls From Church League - TBD, we are up by 9 points. This league is a scoring only league. You score, you get 6 pts. Def gets a point for Ints and sacks. So a running back can get 200yds and not cross the goal line...you get ZIP.  It is also the only money league I play and have played for 9 years.
  • Huge Game Tonight - Pettitte v Lee - The Ballpark in the Bronx
  • MNF - The NFL decided to give us Tennessee v Jacksonville - snorrrrrrrrrrrre
  • Music On The Couch -  Rob Drabkin a singer-songwriter who is making waves out of Denver with his infectious rock and pop and the band Tin Pan...a very cool swing, jazz, blues band out of New York City.
Yeah, I know I end up losing out on the live audience, but I hope y'all download and listen.   Some big shows coming up over the next few weeks.

      Tuesday Notes...

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Tuesday, August 17, 2010 11 Of Your Sparks

Well, my first day back at the office was kinda rough to be honest. These oral steroids and the anti-inflammatory meds are kicking my a**. Thankfully, I am done with them now.

I just feel as if I am outside my body at all times. My appetite is non-existent - I sit to eat and find I don't really want anything. It might be because my taste-buds seem to be all out of whack also.

I did get through most of the day, leaving around 3:30 and heading home where I napped for a couple of hours before doing the show.

Hopefully, I will begin to feel better today as I am not taking those meds any longer.

Working on rating my players for Fantasy Football. My main league drafts on Labor Day, but I have already had a draft in one of the other fun leagues I am in and another draft is scheduled for the third league soon.

Three leagues may be too much, as I am finding in baseball. But the fun leagues I just go along with, while the main league gets most of my attention.

I am getting a ton of spam comments every day. Fortunately they are all on older posts and I have it set that I must moderate comments on posts more than 5 days old. I don't really read the comments before deleting but they seem to have a ton to do with Carrie Prejean or sexual stimulation - or maybe that is one subject!

Any of you experiencing this barrage of spam lately?

Fantasy Football, More Blogs & Headline Monday

Welcome To THE COUCH...Sit on Down and Get Comfy...

      Happy Monday One And All

My fantasy football team stunk up the joint again this weekend.

It didn't help that our opponent had Carson Palmer starting and Palmer lit up the Steelers. Our quarterback Jake Delhomme of the Carolina Panthers has caught the dreaded "we drafted him and now he sucks" disease.

Seems like my partner and I put a curse on many good players once we draft them. Well, I shouldn't blame Dean...he is not walking around with the black cloud over him!

We have reorganized the COOL SITES TO VISIT area and after the first two, the rest are now alphabetical by title. You see, it appears that the Soul Patrol has decided to take over the world of blogging.

FOUR new entries on the list:
Anndi's Luggage - our good friend from Montreal will amuse and amaze.
SueAnn's Silliness - look out for a ton of silliness and some incredible poetry.
Uniquely The Same - a glimpse into the life of Amanda who has found a way to smile despite it all.

And finally...not a new blog, but a new link to the blog:
The Inner Sanctum - Dante/Yoda has a really insightful view on the world.

Find them all listed on the right. Welcome to THE COUCH gang!

Business out of the way....still no word... 'nuff said...

      NEWS FROM AROUND THE WORLD:

      All In The family:

LOS ANGELES - Aaron Carter has broken off his engagement to his older brother's ex-girlfriend. The 18-year-old pop singer called off his engagement to 22-year-old actress Kari Ann Peniche just a week after he proposed onstage in Las Vegas, Us Weekly reported Sunday on its Web site.
Does anybody find this as creepy as I do Kiddies? Is there another brother who is now in line to take a run at this young woman, and doesn't she realize there are other guys in the world to date?

Fear Factor Doesn't Have These Problems, Do They?
      By Associated Press
GURNEE, Ill. - People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals wants Six Flags Great America to scrap its Halloween-themed cockroach-eating promotion.A spokeswoman for the animal rights organization says the contest at the amusement park's FrightFest is "gratuitously cruel."
The park in Gurnee, Ill., is joining other Six Flags parks in offering unlimited line-jumping privileges to anyone who eats a live Madagascar hissing cockroach. The bugs are up to three inches long.
      The contest begins next month.
Amusement park officials are defending their menu choice. Great America spokesman Jim Taylor says the bugs are nutritious, high in protein and fat free.

HEY PETA, want to do something worthwhile, spend your time going after those people who beat animals. I don't believe in using animals for product testing, but using animals for scientific testing, where it can SAVE HUMAN LIFES...go for it. And I like eating meat...sorry, but I do. We're talking COCKROACHES here folks
      !

The World Is Going To Hell In A Handbasket:

Johnny Knoxville and his pals pulled another prank on Hollywood as their sequel of crazy stunts, "Jackass Number Two," beat a rush of serious movies to take the top spot at the weekend box office.
Basically a home video of a bunch of brainless idjits is earning all this money...now where the hell is my video recorder...ah there it is..."HEY TRAV, C'MERE AND JUMP OFF MY ROOF INTO THIS BUCKET OF JELLO!" We'll make millions!

      Finally, Someone Wakes Up!

By SETH SUTEL, AP Business Writer
2 hours, 4 minutes ago NEW YORK - Viacom Inc., a media conglomerate that owns MTV and VH1, said Monday that it was cutting the cash salary and bonuses of its chairman and controlling shareholder, Sumner Redstone, and linking most of his compensation with the performance of the company's stock. The new employment agreement ties Redstone's pay more closely with the interests of shareholders. Under the new agreement, beginning in 2007, Redstone's salary will be reduced to $1 million per year from $1.75 million and deferred compensation of $1.3 million per year will be eliminated.
Also, Redstone's target cash bonus will be reduced to $3.5 million per year from $6.1 million. He will also receive an annual award of stock options having a grant-date value of $3 million and an annual award of performance share units with a grant-date target value of $3 million.
Wow...now if the company tanks because he doesn't watch it, he actually doesn't make guaranteed millions while his stockholders lose their shirts. UNIQUE CONCEPT FOLKS! One all companies should implement immediately!
Now Sumner baby -- umm who the hell names their kid SUMNER anyway?!?! - Oh right SURI Cruise, CHASTITY Bono,
FIFI TRIXIBELLE Geldorf, MOXIE CRIMEFIGHTER Jillette (Penn Jillette's daughter). Do I really have to continue? Maybe we will just make this a posting of it's own here on THE COUCH one day! Where was I? Oh YEAH! Sumner, baby..if you need a couple of bucks, just let me know, I will do a telethon for you!

Do The Beach Boys Have To Rename The Song Too?

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Huntington Beach is taking its rivalry with Santa Cruz over the title of "Surf City, USA" out of the ocean and into the hands of lawyers, trademarking the name and chasing down businesses that infringe on it.
The Southern California town, which boasts a surfing museum and a hall of fame, announced in May that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office had awarded it exclusive use of the title. Now it is enforcing its rights, sending cease and desist letters to anyone wading into its waters.
One of its first targets, the Santa Cruz beachwear shop Noland's on the Wharf, has been selling bathing suits and beach hats for nearly half a century.

The shop has been warned it has until Friday to stop selling a T-shirt sporting the words "Santa Cruz" and "Surf City." Sales of the shirt have since skyrocketed, selling out and leading to a waiting list with nearly 300 names.
OK, so two towns are now fighting this "war" with laywers. Well, Kiddies, who do you think is going to pay all these costs? THE TAXPAYERS OF COURSE. Let the politicians pony up the millions of dollars this stupid little "pissing match" is going to cost. Or better yet, pistols at 50 paces between the Mayors...think if you insisted on that they might find a way to compromise??? SHEESH!

      Well, enough silliness for today....

Wait, SueAnn uses Silliness in the title of her blog. Does that mean, by my just using that word it constitutes trademark infringement....Quick, get me my law firm Armbreaker, Kneesnapper & Jablonski on the phone!

Thanks for sitting on THE COUCH, hope you enjoyed your stay.

FIND AN OPPORTUNITY TO PAY IT FORWARD!
