Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Wednesday, June 29, 2011 5 Of Your Sparks

Where the heck has Vinny been? Have not seen hide nor hair of him in about 4 days...maybe you did not notice, but in case you did...
(pssst all photos go biggie by clickie)

Well kiddies...On Thursday night, Matt and I headed about 10 miles away to Hernando, MS to watch Eric Hughes Band playing a free show on the green in town...beautiful night sitting under the open skies.

I took Friday off to spend some time with Matt and work on getting prepared for our Grillin' and Chillin' get-together on Sunday.

Saturday was a day of food purchase and preparation...and cleaning the house.  Cooked 24 chicken thighs and 36 chicken wings and 18 hot Italian sausages with onions, red peppers and green peppers as the main courses.  So, off to Costco to get the chicken (already had the sausage).  Got home, mixed up some sweet paprika, ancho chili powder, salt and pepper and rubbed that into the chicken nice and good - pulled back the skin on the thighs and rubbed the meat too..

Cut all the peppers and onions for the sausage and peppers..and then made the sauce to baste the chicken.

That consisted of ketchup, tomato paste, juice from some oranges and a lemon, onions, garlic, ancho chilis, and some frozen red sweet cherries. Into the pot and let it cook down and then grabbed the submersible mixer and made it nice and smooth...let it rest overnight.

Made a big ole batch of macaroni salad and then relaxed for the evening as we watched a movie.

Sunday, bright and early, put the sausage and peppers together and put it in the oven to cook slowly. got the chicken on the grill, getting them all nice and brown and then layering on the basting sauce while the grill was on low and let it sink in. Then it all went into the oven with the sausage and peppers to just marinate and cook slowly.

Made some delicious dips for the chips and pretzels and a great sangria that was enjoyed by all who indulged.

As always, putting it all together and sharing the experience with Nancy was just the best.

Ended up being a great time for all except for the arrival of a mass of flies at one point. They were obnoxious to say the least, but some more protein on the plate never hurt a soul!

Matt was a huge help and had a grand time talking to friends and the musicians who all flocked to have a good meal.

Party broke up around 10:30, then clean up and much needed sleep.

Get shots early on and then I get into the party and the camera is forgotten...missed some late arrivals, Eric and Donna and Jack and "Sweet T" and Pete was there early, but left before the camera even came out!

On Monday, it was finish clean-up and relax after a busy three days.

Tuesday, back to work - ugh...

So, what was your weekend like?

Want some delicious chicken? There is left-overs!

Matt leaves tomorrow to go home and I hate it, because as he said on Monday "Dad, just hanging and watching a movie like old times is good enough for me."

Though...tonight we head to Beale for Bike Night and to let him see the fantastic Brandon Santini play live again. You see, when Matt was here 3 years ago we saw Brandon for the first time and Matt has been a fan ever since.

If you have a child living at home, give them a hug, because before you know it, they will not be living there and you will MISS THEM!

But you will never miss...these guys...

Monday and a new week begins

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Monday, June 13, 2011 5 Of Your Sparks

My son Matt arrives this Friday for 10 days. This will be the longest we have had together since I moved to Memphis. I do have to work most of the days - I am still figuring out which days I will take off - but will have two weekends to share during his stay.

Peter has a number of baseball games and I know Matt wants to attend. We are having Grillin' & Chillin' 2 while he is here...a day of friends and food. The menu includes Italian Sausage and Peppers and chicken wings and thighs which I will rub with a paprika-chili powder mixture, grill and then coat with the Cherry Bar-B-Que sauce I adapted from something I saw on the Food Channel. Potato salad, a green salad, sangria and soft drinks here. Everyone brings the alcohol of their choice. Date is the 26th. Come on down!

Been working on financing for a number of items surrounding Music On The Couch. Also thinking of opening a CafePress Shop to sell merchandise. Since it costs me nothing to design and list the items, I might give it a go.

GREAT SHOW tonight! Hope to see you in the chat room...no dancing, no Final Fours, reruns on TV...come sit meet and hear two musicians you should know.

Carlos del Jungo bent his first harmonica note at 14 and has not stopped since.

His list of awards and honors is impressive; winning Harmonica Player of the Year at the Canadian Maple Blues Awards 7 times, he was nominated for the Juno Award (Canada's Grammy) for two of his albums, and he won two Gold medals at the 1993 Hohner World Harmonica Championship.

Carlos just returned from a European tour. Who are his influences? What are his plans for 2011 and beyond?

We will talk with Carlos while listening to some of his fine music from his latest album Mongrel Mash.

Then, Danny Django will join me on The Couch.

A native of Colorado, Django describes himself as "Woody Guthrie with digital capabilities" and has been compared to Tom Petty and Neil Young.

With three albums under his belt Django has honed his musicianship and creates a wonderful sound that incorporates the best of folk, rock and Americana.

We will sit with Danny and discuss his journey and listen to music from his latest Child Indigo

We will take your calls and questions for both guests at 1.347.633.9400.

Come sit on The Couch and meet musicians you should know

The live interactive chat room opens 20 minutes before show time. Follow this link HERE and click on the Chat Now icon. Come hang with the fans and musicians who visit each week.

Remember, unless you take the two minutes to register, you will not be able to participate in the chat room or send me questions to ask our guests, but you will still hear the show.

Tuesday Notes

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Tuesday, May 31, 2011 4 Of Your Sparks

DAMN BLOGGER- POST WHEN YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO PLEASE!

Long week out in California. Got to spend a few hours with my Fraternity brother Jaime, his son Taylor and girlfriend Krista. He let me read a treatment for this thing that would take place on the web and it was very cool...

Got home around 7pm Saturday night and spent the weekend catching up with all the stuff we had around here. Was a good weekend for it as Peter was with a buddy on a near-by lake for the whole time.

Grilled both days... Sunday a couple of filets and some portobello mushrooms and thick sliced Vadalia onions on the grill - BAM!

Yesterday was some fantastic wings marinaded in a sesame-teryaki-habanero marinade I concocted.

What did y'all do for the weekend?

This week I will be slammed with billing at work. UGH...hate these weeks.

Check out last evening's show...4 cool guests with good sounds.

That is all...

Wordy Wednesday

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Wednesday, September 29, 2010 12 Of Your Sparks

Sunday was fantabuloso! Everyone had a grand time and there were lots of laughs.

it was wonderful to sit with these great folks without them having to be rushing to get back on stage.

unfortunately a couple of people could not join us due to last minute obligations and an illness...

Also unfortunately, we were having such a good time I totally forgot about my camera..so no pics (bad me)

A guitar came out for a little while, but I had promised no one had to play for their meal and Eric came from a gig so he was not in the mood to play!

For those who did not get my email --- gee, did I mention this already? But I did not make the cut into the second round of the FoodBuzz contest. I guess I really did not work hard enough...

Oh well...

Please add Dad Vince to your prayers at night. He will be getting radiation over the next weeks as he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

F**K I hate that F**KING WORD!!!!

Good news is that it is contained, so the prognosis is good.

To my male friends...you need to get your doctor to run a PSA test with your blood work especially after 50...EARLY DETECTION is the key

Dad..you are one strong S.O.B. and you will be getting on that ship with us in 8 weeks...Love you

Yesterday on FaceBook I was involved in a conversation regarding this years inductee list for the Rock and Roll hall Of Fame and it once again brings my call to change the name of the place.

You CAN NOT induct Donna Summer into a Rock and Roll Hall OF Fame. Beastie Boys? Love em...Rock and Roll? Nope...

Rush snubbed again...dumb...

When will the committee take their heads out of their collective a**es and stop the tomfoolery?

If you want to allow people like Summers and Madonna and the Beasties in, change the name of the place to the Music Hall Of Fame.

And then, OK...open it up to the last of the genres which seems to not be involved...classical music.

BUT you can not continue calling it the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME and have these artists included.

Jann Wenner is now the force there in Cleveland and I for one am glad he began Rolling Stone Magazine, but Jann, seriously...your personal taste in music is not and should not be the defining nature of this Hall.

Monday I got hit with a migraine and left work.  Slept until about an hour before show time and then did the show.  During my second segment my internet went down!  Thankfully, my guest stayed around and we were able to complete the show.

Unfortunately, there is a five minute gap there.  I am trying to see if there is a way to delete that gap in the archives, but as I am not a PREMIUM host (meaning I pay money - not happening now), I am not sure that will happen..so if you download the show...fast forward when the gap comes, because there is more interview and more music to be heard.

Today...is the migraine hangover day....sucks, but I am at work.

Thanks for coming by and making a comment...those of you who remain here are special indeed.

My friend and fraternity brother Bruce Byers is a photographer by trade, passion, talent. This is from an email I received yesterday:

Since 2006 I have taken a side track into the world of Non-Profits. It has been a real eye opener as I have traveled into Cambodia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, India, China, The West Bank documenting the great work of the doctors who are helping children without much in their lives.

This Fall I go back into Bangladesh with Hope Foundation and Smilebangladesh.org

They will be doing cleft repair on children in the area of Cox's Bazar in southern
Bangladesh. My documentation of their work brings the stories of these children
back home.

I have set up a project on:

www.crowdrise.com/medicalmissions

To help fund raise to make my work possible.

Donations can also be made to Smile Bangladesh by sending them to me directly and
I will make sure they receive the funds.

I know this is a hard time for everyone and it is the connections you might have that will help the most. Of course funds help a lot, but also frequent flyer miles, supplies, equipment and connections to sponsors goes a long way too.

Thank you for passing it on.

Missions so far www.brucebyers.com/missions

If you know a non-profit that could use photography please also pass on my info.

I promised I would put this up here and hopefully generate some interest...if you would like to pass this on to your readers, please do so. Bruce is doing some very special work - check out the link to his missions.

Monday and a new week begins

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Monday, September 27, 2010 5 Of Your Sparks

Two men who were unable to stay away from the music business this week on MUSIC ON THE COUCH

Savio Rego was born in Bombay and ended up a banker in California, but music kept calling and the call has been answered with the release of ALL I WANT, his debut album. Full of songs combining blues, jazz, soul, and folk, I found it very enjoyable and look forward to chatting with Savio

Bobby Joe Owens owns a restaurant in Bowie, MD. The lure of the stage kept pulling him and eventually, he began writing excellent songs and working with various local musicians. Out of that came Retro Deluxe and now, with a revised lineup and a new album WATERMELON TEA recorded at the famous Delta Studios in Mississippi, Bobby Joe and Retro Deluxe are looking at breaking out big.

Join me this evening a 9:00pm Central - or anytime after midnight in the archives HERE or HERE as we talk to both gentlemen and hear selected songs from their albums.

Thanks to all who voted over on the FoodBuzz contest. Unfortunately I did not make the cut to the second round. Honestly, when I think back on it and kind of phoned it in and did not put together my best effort...maybe next year.

Have to get ready for a Chillin' & Grillin' event here at our home today as we welcome some of the local musicians who have been so welcoming to me in getting Music On The Couch going...

Bought 5 lbs of Cheese and Basil Sausage Rings from Brooklyn...burgers, raspberry-jalapeno marinated chicken wings, baked beans and macaroni salad are on the menu...

Might have some pictures to share later this week.
