Thursday Tidbits....

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Wednesday, April 06, 2011 7 Of Your Sparks

So I hope y'all remember that the place to find out what happens each week  on Dancing With The Stars is to visit TRAVIS of "Trav's Thoughts" each Tuesday and Wednesday. It is great for me, because I always miss a portion of Monday's show.

And don't forget he is the originator of FIVE ON FRIDAY, a cool way to share a set of music with others on Friday's. There are some real music fans who lurk around here and some who show their faces...I double-dog dare you to take the challenge and post your 5 song 'themed' set on Friday and link it back to Travis.

And you...yeah you, you know who you are, sitting there saying 'well I don't blog, so no worries.' Well, you have a Facebook page, OH yes you do too! You can post it on your Facebook page. Just go to www.playlist.com and you can register for free and then search for the songs that make up your list. Then click the SHARE MY LIST at the top, select the list and it will post immediately to Facebook.

The theme can be anything you want.  5 from the same band.  5 of the same song done by 5 different artists. 5 that have a common theme (love, sun, beach, dance etc etc)...I think you get the idea...so

Remember...

I DOUBLE-DOG DARED YA!!!!

I have spoken of my Fraternity Brother, Bruce Byers. He is a photojournalist who has been fortunate enough to now have the chance to travel the world on missions of hope. His main focus has been in bringing need to those in third world countries with cleft and dental conditions. He has given his time to organizations like The Hope Foundation.

Bruce is the creator of a video after his latest trip with Dr Shahid Aziz from Smile Bangladesh.Org and
and it will be running on the 7 story Nasdaq screen at 43rd and Broadway between 3:30 pm and 4:30 pm on April 6th 2011.

So, if you are in New York, you can check it out.

Thinking I am going to get to see some friends playing tonight. Perfect storm on Beale street with two different acts playing across the street from each other.

Should be fun

Didn't miss me I see...

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini 13 Of Your Sparks

Nope, there was not a post yesterday and I want to thank all my readers who sent notes of concern, as they do when other bloggers do not make a post for one day…

OH wait…sorry, never mind…I only got two notes of concern and one of those was from my mom!

Not that anyone wants to know...but our entire area was without cable, internet and telephone service from Comcast Monday night as a motherboard needed to be replaced and apparently that took from 6:20pm until past midnight.

So, Monday evening…all set to watch the finale of “Dancing With the Stars” and TiVo was set to record “Big Bang Theory” and we have nothing…

Luckily, TRAVIS of “Trav’s Thoughts” was there to describe all we missed on Dancing.

As far as “Big Bang Theory”, CBS does not stream its shows, so I either wait until it replays or I buy it over at iTunes…

Did anyone see the Adam Lambert performance on the “American Music Awards” on Sunday? I did not watch, but it has stirred up a whole wasp nest of controversy indeed. His live performance scheduled for this morning’s “Good Morning America” on ABC was canceled. But “The CBS Morning Show” jumped right in and booked Lambert for this morning to perform and discuss the ‘incident’.

It really was three incidents that have caused the furor…While singing his new song "For Your Entertainment" at the awards program, Lambert kissed a male keyboardist, fondled a dancer and had another dancer briefly stuff his face in Lambert's crotch.

It appears he warned ABC his performance would be sexy and indeed it was for many far too sexy. ABC reported it received 1500 complaints, a number they term as 'moderate'.

I am not sure of the difference between Madonna and Brittney swapping spit on an awards show and Lambert doing the same; but stuffing a dancer’s face into his crotch on a show that is in prime time is over the top IMHO.

Some say Michael Jackson grabbed his crotch for 20+ years, why get down on Adam? But Michael never grabbed someone else’s crotch (well not on stage and not someone over the age of 16 that is!)

Lambert appears to be flaunting his sexuality now…allowing it to lead his decisions and he seems to want to cause the controversy.

In the end, it should be about the music…from what I have read; if he had done this performance on American idol he would have heard “Dawg that was just too pitchy” or
“Adam, I love the way you look and you are just so progressive and I love your shoes and your hair…” or
“Shut up Pawler…Adam, that was very karaoke and I have heard better at weddings”.

Every child deserves an education and medical care. Yet these basic rights remain unavailable to a large majority. New York-based photographers Bruce Byers and Annabel Clark work with non-profit organizations that provide these services to children and teens in disadvantaged communities around the world.

In tandem, their photographs provide a glimpse into the lives of children in need. Given a free education and medical care, these children are able to rise above the challenges they have been born with so that they can not only integrate, but flourish in our world.

If there ever was a time to create these photographs it is now. The photographers produce these images independently. Help is always welcome.

Bruce Byers

Byers has photographed medical missions in Bangladesh, Cambodia and China through the charities Healing the Children Northeast and the Chinese Agape Foundation. He also photographs children living with cancer in the U.S through the St Baldrick's Foundation.

Byers has spent over 35 years perfecting the art of observing. With a wealth of professional experience matched with a sensitive eye, Byers captures his observations photographically with evocative results. The images reflect a range of emotions, immersing the viewer in a world of private moments that most of us would otherwise miss. Unstaged and unstructured, these images reflect spontaneous moments of introspection, isolation, joy, serenity and playfulness. The genuine feelings communicated in Byers work represent the true spirit of life in its everyday guise.

Byers has traveled all over the world preserving his observations on film. He explains, "I am intrigued by the emotional power of an individual's private reveries, typically unobserved by the outside world."

Byers is represented in NYC at the Old Print Shop and also teaches at NYU.

Annabel Clark

Clark connected with the Sierra Leonean charity Action for Child Protection to photograph a school that provides free education to street children, some of whom grew up as soldiers in their country's civil war. She has since gone on medical missions with Healing the Children to photograph youth in Colombia and Brazil for whom cleft lip and palate surgeries are life altering.

Clark was born in Topanga Canyon, California in 1981. She received her B.F.A. from Parsons School of Design in 2003. During her final term at Parsons, she photographed her mother, actress Lynn Redgrave, during treatment and recovery from breast cancer. It was published as a six-page spread in the New York Times Magazine and then as the book Journal: A Mother and Daughter's Recovery from Breast Cancer, by Umbrage Editions. In June 2007, she began a traveling exhibition of Journal at the Minnesota Center for Photography and has since exhibited at Peer Gallery, the Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing in New York City and Vassar College. Her editorial work has been seen in The New York Times Magazine, The Observer Magazine, Marie Claire, Glamour and Proto Magazine and she has worked as the stills photographer on several independent films. She also teaches photography workshops at the Creative Center, a nonprofit organization that provides free art classes to people living with cancer.

All the prints on display are for sale and part of the proceeds will
benefit the organizations we document. Your contributions will help Bruce and Annabel continue to inform and inspire the world with the power of storytelling that is the signature of photography.
