Monday and a new week begins

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Monday, April 11, 2011 6 Of Your Sparks

Hope your weekend was the enjoyable break from the hectic workweek...well, that is IF you have a hectic workweek and IF you work. I know there are a number of people out in the blogosphere who, for whatever reason do not work or work from home. Now I could deal with working from home.

Had to complete two album reviews this weekend. All I can say before they are published is that one was a struggle to deal with and one was a pleasure, though difficult to write about.
Both were instrumental guitar albums. One with multiple guitar tracks and synthetic backing instruments. The other was fingerstyle acoustic guitar. Unless you go all educational and technical on technique - which I am not qualified to do - how do you describe each song? With a band or even a solo artist who has vocal, you can comment and dissect the songs.

Well, I did it and one artist is not going to be happy and one will be pleased.

Headin' to NOLA this Thursday evening to meet up with best bud Andy and his bride Janice. Have know them for almost 40 years. Due to circumstances beyond their control they could not make the wedding, so they have never met Nancy.

We will be staying at the Dauphine Orleans Hotel and seeing music on Friday and Saturday evening. Sunday might bring on an airboat tour so we can see some gators and snakes and hear banjo music no, that was Georgia. Will be their first time there and mine also! I have been in the city the night before the cruise, but did not get a chance to do anything after our family dinner. Should be a blast!

This week:
JOHN-ALEX MASON
and
the band
THE SUGAR PROPHETS

SIT ON
THE COUCH

Promo shot by Heather Greene

John-Alex Mason hails from southern Colorado and he is a unique artist.

His new album "Jook Joint Thunderclap" is a world boogie collaboration of master players from Chicagoland, Holly Springs, Guinea and Colorado.

On this project Mason added djembe, bolofon, fiddle, mandolin, harmonica, bass and flos to his one-man band of kick drums, electric guitars and vocals.

During the IBC this year, John-Alex performed in a showcase and it is true that his shows are a celebration and the crowd becomes a willing participant in the performance.

What are some of those instruments John-Alex is playing? What is the driving force behind his desire to incorporate all of these sounds into his music? I will chat with John-Alex and find out these and other answers.

Then the band The Sugar Prophets will sit on The Couch.

The band, less than 18 months old and with a brand new drummer were finalists in last year’s International Blues Challenge and made their presence known to the blues world.

Josh Spence-Vocals/Harmonica, Joe Asselin-Guitar/Vocals, A.J. "Apple Jack" Williams-Guitar/Vocals, Al Chapman-Bass, Vince "Fuzz" Elam-Drums combine to create a fresh sound. They released their debut self-titled album and it is a winner. All original numbers with some tight playing and top-notch lyrics.

What is next for the band and what did they learn from their appearance in Memphis? We will discuss that and more.

We will take your calls and questions for both guests at 1.347.633.9400.

Come sit on The Couch and meet musicians you should know.

The live interactive chat room opens 20 minutes before show time. Follow this link HERE and click on the Chat Now icon. Come hang with the fans and musicians who visit each week.

Remember, unless you take the two minutes to register, you will not be able to participate in the chat room or send me questions to ask our guests, but you will still hear the show.

So tune in on Monday evening or remember, you can always listen anytime after the show ends from the player HERE or check out Music On The Couch for additional artist information, and show recaps.

You can download to your iTunes and even subscribe to the show for weekly automatic downloads, from my iTunes page.

Just A Tuesday...

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Tuesday, June 26, 2007 23 Of Your Sparks

Good morning, good afternoon, good evening...
Please grab a seat, sit back and relax...

Had a great weekend with Andy...we hit the local place on Friday night with burgers and cocktails...then came back and watched some baseball...

Saturday out and downtown...drove to Tom Lee Park on the river and then parked and walked through downtown over to Beale Street...

Walked the entire two blocks stopping for beers once...ummm...yeah once...it was hot out but beautiful!

Ended up at B.B. Kings...seems everyone wants to see the original...Great band playing with a 20-year old guitar player Corey Osborne. Kid played a great guitar...yes he did...

Went to Corky's that night for dinner and were debating on calling a cab and heading back to Beale...ended up buying a couple bottles of wine and enjoying them...

Sunday we went back downtown and did the Sun Records Tour - #3 for me...three different tour guides...the one with mom and dad has been best so far...

Drove over to Graceland...Andy decided he didn't need to tour...headed back home..had some wings and nachos for lunch and a big 'ole bowl of pasta with meat gravy for dinner...

Up at 4:30 yesterday morning and took him to the airport....was great to spend time and catch up and bitch and moan and laugh and drink and eat together again...

Been a long and busy day...
If you listen...enjoy the music...

Today's selection is from Roosevelt Raceway on Long Island. A horse track, they held the concert on the infield.

It began as an overcast day, the rain came during the day, then it cleared...

It was September 8, 1974 R.I.T. was on a trimester schedule so we began school later than most and we were still home and were leaving the next day to get there before the freshman orientation began and get the radio station running...

So, happy we stayed an extra day... this was a special concert...

Crosby, Still Nash & Youngand then we found a copy of the concert and can relive it over and over...

Remember...it a live recording made by a fan...

[couchdivider.gif]

OH...And it seems many of our guests enjoyed the thought of me as a woman...

here is a peek...

want the rest?

BEG FOR IT!
bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahah

Thursday Thoughts...

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Thursday, June 21, 2007 21 Of Your Sparks

YOU REALLY SHOULD HIT PLAY YA KNOW...

Wow.. thinking we got to and commented on all the FAVS on the right yesterday...Been a long time since we were able to do that...If we missed you, let us know please...

Work has been very busy and there are days we can only get halfway through so we alternate beginning at the top or at the bottom...we always go in order...

So Kiddies...how do you go through your daily journey through your favorite sites?

[couchdivider.gif]

Well it would seem the leaders of the Church Of Scientology has put their collective heads together (which has been proven to have the brain capacity of a gnat) and realized that maybe....just maybe Mr. Tom Cruise's credibility with the public at large is on shaky grounds - though his absence from being in our faces has been a nice break.

ARE YOU KIDDING?...DON'T YOU READ ANYTHING? FREAKIN' CRUISE IS LIKE THEIR DALI LAMA NOW...HE HAS ASCENDED TO THE SEVENTH OF EIGHT LEVELS...YOU BETTER WATCH WHAT YOU SAY...THEY LISTEN...

Well fine whatever the reason - sheesh just be quiet OK? - Mr. John Travolta has thrown his hat into the Major Tom - Brooke Shield catfight....

ISN'T THAT LIKE REAL OLD NEWS?

HUSH!

Anyway, in the July issue of "W" magazine Gabriel Shear is quoted as saying,
"I don't disagree with anything Tom says. How would I have presented it? Maybe differently than how he did, but it doesn't matter. I still think that if you analyze most of the school shootings, it is not gun control. It is (psychotropic) drugs at the bottom of it."

"I don't want to create controversy; I just have an opinion on things, and there is nothing wrong with stating your opinion if you are asked," he continues. "Everyone wants that right, and because you are famous doesn't mean you have less of a right."

Now before Beckeye and Turn have cows (not Bessie Dana), let me say we like James Ubriacco. We have no problem that he practices a "religion" that is based upon a science fiction book...Look, we don't care that Tom Terrific does, what we have not liked over the last few years is his erratic behavior and proselytizing.

We just think Vincent Vega should stay out of this whole controversy and not become a mouthpiece for the church...

[couchdivider.gif]

Best friend Andy coming into town Friday night...should be a great weekend...

LOL...and the phone rings and it is...drum roll please...

push the play button please
YES...it is Andy calling from CA, where he is visiting Jamie first, checking in making sure everything is in order...

[couchdivider.gif]

UGH...I hate Colorado .....
Baseball reference

[couchdivider.gif]

When Larry Birkhead looks at his 9-month-old daughter, Dannielynn, he sees her mother, Anna Nicole Smith. "She has long legs and chubby little toes exactly like Anna's; it's like a mirror image," Birkhead tells "OK" magazine in its latest issue. "It's really incredible. And I think her lips are her mom's lips; especially when she pouts. ... She also gets what she wants exactly like her mom always did as soon as she'd pout."

Birkhead also said he was in negotiations for a Playboy spread for her when she reaches her 18th birthday...

[couchdivider.gif]

So, it is by no means official...

"I have not been asked for my opinion, nor have I expressed one," Bob Barker said on Wednesday. "I think there are several candidates who could do the show, and Rosie is certainly one of them."

Among those reportedly in the running, besides O'Donnell, are Todd Newton of the "E!" network, Mark Steines of "Entertainment Tonight," George Hamilton (isn't he as old as Barker???) and John O'Hurley.

Rosie talked about this on her blog and said she would accept it if offered.

Barker was asked about the possibility of this happening.

"She told me at that time (on her now defunct talk show) that she liked `The Price Is Right' and some day wanted to host it," said Barker. "I thought she could do the show. She's a very talented lady and I thought she could do most any show."

So when asked after the Emmys about her qualifications, he responded, "She knows the show. There's no doubt in my mind she could do the show."

On Wednesday Barker began backpedling saying it would "terribly presumptuous," for him to have an impact on the final selection...yeah surrrrrrrrrrrrre

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Tuesday, May 29, 2007 23 Of Your Sparks

The apartment is clean...
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Spent about 2 hours Saturday and then 2 hours Sunday and it is as good as it is gonna get...

[couchdivider.gif]

Have so many tapes to transfer to DVD... Gotten about 10 hours done, but that was the easy part...About to tackle the digital tapes from the digital video and the mini-tapes from the analog video recorder. That stuff is not edited, and in rough shape. Will need to transfer it to the MAC, work in i-Movie and then transfer from there to the DVD recorder.

[couchdivider.gif]

Mom and dad arrive on Friday afternoon and leave Monday morning. Going to be great to see them. The Italian Fest ends Saturday, so I guess that day is planned. It is about three miles away I gather...have to check into the "gravy-making contest" sign-up area for next year...

[couchdivider.gif]

Also found out We will be having a guest over the weekend of June 22. Frat brother and best friend Andy coming in after visiting our friend Jamie in California for a few days.

Checking out the goings on that weekend...though it is quiet in June...Beale Street one night, probably Graceland...

[couchdivider.gif]

My Yankees are really struggling right now. They get hitting and no pitching, or get a good pitched game and can't get a hit...This all started with the rash of pitching injuries early in the season. It put a ton of pressure on their relief staff and those guys are just overworked.

We still have faith they are not out of this thing...it is only end of May...long road...but one pitcher is not going to help. The starters need to pitch deeper and our left hand bats need to wake up...

Someone wake up Anndi and tell her the baseball talk is done...

[couchdivider.gif]

GOOD NEWS, BAD NEWS ON THE COUCH:
GOOD NEWS: Lindsay Lohan does not look up to Paris Hilton as a role model.
BAD NEWS: She didn't learn and is still too thick-headed to realize you do not put yourself in a DUI (with "cocaine" found in the car) situation because guess what?

pssssssssst....the cops are watching ...

It isn't like when the Rat Pack, or the Brat Pack, or even Team DiCaprio were around.

Going out for the night? Be our guest in making yourself look ridiculous to the photogs (Oh, yeah, they WILL be there, promise), but hire a freaking car service....PLEASE!

[couchdivider.gif]

Have that tickle in the back of my throat. Little stuffy...

[couchdivider.gif]

Congratulations to my niece AMELIA
Who graduated high school this past weekend...

[couchdivider.gif]

RIP
CHARLES NELSON REILLY

1931 - 2007

He passed away of pneumonia on Friday.
Reilly was the flamboyant celebrity seen on
"Hollywood Squares" and "The Match Game" in the '70 & '80's.

But, did you know....?

Reilly began his career in New York City, taking acting classes at a studio with Steve McQueen, Geraldine Page and Hal Holbrook.

In 1962, he appeared on Broadway as Bud Frump in the original Broadway production of "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying."

The role won Reilly a Tony Award.

He was nominated for a Tony again for playing Cornelius in "Hello, Dolly!"

In 1997 he received another nomination for directing Julie Harris and Charles Durning in a revival of "The Gin Game."

After moving to Hollywood in 1960s he appeared as the nervous Claymore Gregg on TV's "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" and as a featured guest on "The Dean Martin Show."

[couchdivider.gif]

My friend read the thoughts from you, my guests, last week
They wanted all y'all to know how much they appreciated the support.

All plans for a mass gathering to cause some hurt are on hold...

Will the ramblin' ever stop????
