JULIE finished her 5 Questions Interview HERE

Only Coco Left....
yooo hoooo Coco??!!??!!??

Two saying ciao this evening...

Lot of conjecture over the state of affairs.
Jordin did poorly last night,
but the week before was on top.

LaKisha (YES, I know I have been spelling it incorrectly),
has not been great and seems to be losing her base.

[couchdivider.gif]

Jon Bon Jovi gonna rock the house tonight...
Here we go....

OK, that proves it.. he is only a computer...
OK, LaKisha has to go, she would kiss him again????

[couchdivider.gif]

Hellllllllllllllllllllo Ruben...

[couchdivider.gif]

So, I am real tired of them pimping artists on their label..
Robin Thicke - he couldn't get through the audition process for this show.
That was awful..my ears are bleeding.

[couchdivider.gif]

MELINDA - SAFE
LaKISHA - SAFE
PHIL - GOING HOME?
Wrong
Wrong
Did not deserve to go home after his last two weeks.

[couchdivider.gif]

JORDIN - SAFE

[couchdivider.gif]

Time for Jon & the boys...

Excellent
You can rock without having to be loud and screaming.
Excellent

[couchdivider.gif]

Wow...who is that guy?
Finally making an appearance on this season's shows.

[couchdivider.gif]

BLAKE - SAFE

AI Results - Another Interview -

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Wednesday, April 25, 2007 20 Of Your Sparks

OK.. the most shocking results in the history of the show????

Didn't they say the same thing last season? The only real shocker in our eyes would be if Melinda went home and we are saying it now.. if that is the case, this will be the last IDOL post ever...

Ellen DeGeneres...not a fan...sorry...

Earth Wind & Fire...BIG FAN.. neighbors might complain, the surround sound is cranked...

No sign of Bono..

A video presentation - the first of the evening...

Quincy Jones and a song he wrote and then the Idols sing it...never been a big fan of these "help the world songs"...

Making fun of Sanjaya...then it appears Ben Stiller will be the running "joke" of the night...

Another video... 27 minutes and two songs... yawn

Back to business...

MELINDA...SAFE (so we will continue doing these)

Anyone seen Bono?

Another video

Umm IL Divo... I enjoyed them a lot.

Jack Black...and another Sanjaya joke...

Back to business...

BLAKE...SAFE

Video

Ellen and another Sanjaya joke

Rascal Flatts...don't get these guys.. nope...

Ford Commercial

Montage of stars singing and dancing to Staying Alive...cute

Still no sign of Bono....

Back to business...

PHIL...SAFE

Video...

Ellen throws down a challenge.

Josh Grobin with the African Children's Choir. These kids are incredible. We truly enjoyed that.

Video...This one mentions something we have been behind here on THE COUCH since almost the beginning...."NETS FOR MALARIA" - see the link on our sidebar.

Kelly Clarkson and Jeff Beck... Still one freaking' hot axe player...and she can sing... we even got a little Janis vibe off of that performance...

Ben Stiller joke...what, no Sanjaya?

Simon on American Idol on the Simpsons...

Back to business...

LaKEISHA...SAFE

OK, so WTF...what can be so freakin' shocking?

Wait, was that Bono? Ummm nope....

Video of Celine and Elvis...technology is pretty incredible...

Madonna... is she going to try and adopt another kid?

Wait.. they are giving $10,000 to the winner of their challenge? Isn't this about CHARITY???

Back to Ellen...after a technical glitch.. BUT we got to see Elvis sing live... ummmm OK...

Annie Lennox...the woman still has it. What a talent.

Back to business...

CHRIS and JORDIN left..

Wait??? BIG SHOCKER? Is America sending home Jordin????? Is that really a BIG Shocker??? ummm not really, but...

CHRIS...SAFE ---

Jordin going home?? Tears flowing from her...I am stunned...

WHAT? OH, give me a break... no one goes home????

OH, so sneaky...two go home next week...

But they screwed with the head of a seventeen year old...why couldn't they have told Jordin she was safe and let Chris think he was gone...

that was WRONG!

OH LOOKIE LOOKIE... Bono! finally....

Final song of the night...

2-hours..good cause...crappy show....

[couchdivider.gif]

Christine from EPIPHANY SANCTUARY, asked that we answer these... so here goes:

1. Your site introduced me to One Day Blog Silence (thank you), a gesture of charity ~ what would you say is the charity or charity gesture that is most meaningful to you, and why?

Thank you Christine.. there are two charities that mean a lot to me. The Lymphoma Research Foundation, as mom is a survivor and it has hit home and then AIDS Organization as we have seen first hand the horrible consequences of this epidemic.
From a volunteer stand point we have also worked with Little League for years, long after my son moved on. For the last five years we managed the concession stand for the Little League in NJ where we used to live. We raised upwards of $10,000.00 each season and sent equipment to Little Leagues after Katrina wiped out their fields and homes.

2. Do you remember the first time you heard the Rolling Stones?

Wow.. the very first time we can remember was their appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. We saw them live for the first time in Buffalo, NY in 1972 at Rich Stadium.

3. Favorite childhood toy?

OOOO I had a Man From U.N.C.L.E. gun I loved, and I was a big Mousetrap fan...plus my Lionel Trains (which I still have)

4. What differences does your NY heart notice between Memphis and NY?

Funny, I was having a discussion with someone today who was telling me about their trip to NYC. I miss the vibrancy of Manhattan...it truly never sleeps... and The food. Yes Memphis has great bar-b-que, but OH how I miss pizza, and good Italian (that I have not had to cook), and I have not found sensational Chinese here yet...

5. Your profile says you like cooking (go, you!). ~ Favorite meal to cook?

Well being Sicilian/Italian, I have an affinity for that cuisine. Taking after mom, I make a great Lasagna...It begins with home made gravy (tomato sauce for the non-Sicilians in the crowd) and homemade meatballs.. ground the meatballs and mix with ground Italian sausage (mix hot and sweet) then layer the noodles with the meat mixture, some gravy, ricotta, parmesano-reggiano and mozzarella cheeses. Keep layering and bake it up... OK, I am hungry....

That said, I also love to cook veal stew, my grandmother Amelia's chicken with onions, I have a killa chili recipe (no beans), I used to have a smoker and would smoke pork-butt with a special rub and basting sauce but will take on any recipe if it catches my attention.

Even though I live alone, I still cook most nights and on the weekends will go into a cooking frenzy and make a few dishes and then freeze them (of course using a vacuum-sealer system to keep them just like new).

Thanks Christine...not asking for volunteers this time around...

[couchdivider.gif]

The questions for Julie, Coco, Angell and Dana are coming...

Tomorrow on THE COUCH, we go spanning the world for those stories that just make us insane...time for a little rant and rave....

OH and in case you are wondering why this musical selection...?
I just freakin' love this Zappa tune...

AI Results, an award

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Thursday, April 19, 2007 28 Of Your Sparks

Received an email this morning alerting me that our "Mystery Guest" post about
Jackie Robinson was given the "RISING BLOGGER - POST OF THE DAY" Award.
Rising Blogger acknowledges individual posts, not blogs which we think is a great idea.
And you don't have to do anything to get the award or after you receive it.
Thank you to Judd Corazin for this honor.

American Idol Results

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Thursday, April 12, 2007 21 Of Your Sparks

OK results show... we took some grief for putting S.M. in our top two last night... well, for one night he was better then the rest...except Blake.

STOOPID thing at the farmer's market... why are we subjected to an hour tonight? Ans then we have musical guests that have absolutely nothing to do with the show. DO we need to promote an artist on your label who is already at #1?????

[couchdivider.gif]

OK, let's make fun of Simon time...yawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwn

[couchdivider.gif]

Now, some silly "audition sketch"... ummm this is a singing competition...you are NOT a comedy show....

[couchdivider.gif]

We just wasted 26 minutes....well, not totally wasted, got to clean up after dinner...and read some of the 92 emails that piled up today...

OK, commercial over and now we have to watch the lousy performances from last night, once again...

[couchdivider.gif]

FINALLY... picking the bottom three...

PHIL STACEY
HALEY SCARNATO
CHRIS ROBINSON

Who is the safe one?

Well, another break, because ...hell we are killing a full hour....

[couchdivider.gif]

Commercial...heading back...

CHRIS IS SAFE....

[couchdivider.gif]

We are 2-2 on the bottom Two this week....

[couchdivider.gif]

Now, let's see what we missed from last night... OK, everyone gush over J-Lo....OH yeah, Sanjaya getting her number....ummm sorry, but ...bwahahahahahhahahahah...

Marc Antony gets on the phone and calls Guido and Bruno... "Take the rooster out"

[couchdivider.gif]

Jenny from DA Block sings...

Ready gents... THIGH HIGH BOOTS WITH HEELS.....Oh baby!

See, now this is how Latin music sizzles......

[couchdivider.gif]

Well, now we get Haley and Phil back out center stage...

GOING HOME TONIGHT...
HALEY SCARNATO

go with your gut Bond... you had her going home, but changed it to Phil because you figured the boys would want more S*X...maybe the rumour we started last week that she was going to join Antonella on "Girls Gone Wild" was taken seriously...

8-6 on Bottom Three picks
1-3 on Going Home picks

should give up my AI selector card...

Radio Happy Hour; American Idol Results; Eddie Robinson & The Good Rats

Sparks Of Insanity By Vinny "Bond" Marini Thursday, April 05, 2007 28 Of Your Sparks

We had a FABULOSO TIME on the Doctor Blogstein Radio Happy Hour.

Thanks to Doc and Jamie for their hospitality. If you missed it, there is an archive of it. Just click on the link for the show back a sentence or two.

We were sorry that Joey G. bailed on the show as we were going to contract him to take out Paula for her comment that Phil was like The Chairman of The Board!

To those of you who were listening, thanks. How was my accent? I worked hard trying to lessen my new found southern accent and I tried hard to sound like a New Yorker again. Hope I did well with it! bwahahaahahahahahaahahaaaaa

Doc has asked that I call in next week when one of his guests will be discussing the Weird One from AI. (NO, not Simon!). The show will be back on Tuesday at 9:00 PM.

THE RESULTS

The Bottom Three:
PHIL (we called it)
HALEY (we called it)
GINA (Huh? What? Huh?)

GOING HOME:
GINA????
WTF!!!!WTF????WTF?????

IS AMERICA ON CRACK???????

We are seriously going to have to think about whether we are going to continue to watch this train wreck.
It has been said by many...but we wil say it here -
The Producers have done this to themselves. They can talk about the most votes yadda yadda,
but with VFTW and Howard Stern pushing for votes for Sanjaya that is giving them the votes.
What will happen if he actually wins?
What happens to the credibility of the show?

OUR RECORD:
Bottom Group: 8-7
Going Home: 1-3

[couchdivider.gif]

R.I.P.
EDDIE GAY ROBINSON

February 13, 1919 – April 3, 2007
A Great Football Coach
A Great Teacher
A Great Mentor
A Great Man

Football coach at Grambling University for 56 years, Eddie Robinson amassed a stunning record of 408-165-15 during his reign.

He coached through 11 Presidents, and the civil rights movement. "The real record I have set for over 50 years is the fact that I have had one job and one wife,'' Robinson said.

Even during the era of segregation white coaches praised “Coach” for his ability to develop young talent. He was so successful at doing so that over 200 players from Grambling were drafted into the NFL.

Grambling first gained national attention in 1949 when running back Paul ""Tank'' Younger signed with the Los Angeles Rams and became the first player from an all-black college to enter the NFL. Suddenly, pro scouts learned how to find the little school 65 miles east of Shreveport near the Arkansas border.

Players drafter out of Grambling included seven first-round draft choices and Doug Williams, Super Bowl XXII MVP, who succeeded Robinson as Grambling's coach in 1998. Others went to the Canadian Football League and the now-defunct USFL.

Robinson's pro stars included Willie Davis, James Harris, Ernie Ladd, Buck Buchanan, Sammy White, Cliff McNeil, Willie Brown, Roosevelt Taylor, Charlie Joiner and Willie Williams.

Let us introduce you to another band we were a huge fan of during the early 70’s on Long Island.

The self proclaimed “World’s Most Famous Unknown Band” is The GOOD RATS.

In 1969, founder/lead singer/songwriter, Peppi Marchello and his brother, Mickey put out the self-titled album THE GOOD RATS.

I became aware of them in 1974 after they added John “The Cat” Gato on guitar, Lenny Kotke on bass and Joe Franco on drums and released their album “TASTY”. They were the kings of LI bar bands at a time when Twisted Sister, The Illusion (last week’s band), and others were also touring and ripping up the club scene.

The Rats have played at Madison Square Garden, The Philadelphia Spectrum, The Hammersmith Odeon in England and many other famous venues.

They were headliners or opened for bands such as Rush, Kiss Aerosmith, Ozzy, The Grateful Dead, Bruce, and Styx among others.

When we were in Rochester we began playing them on our radio shows and talking to club owners and helped bring them to the upstate NY area where they drew huge crowds in the clubs they played.

Peppi is wild on stage, playing a baseball bat and showering the audience with rubber rats during the show.

The band is still touring, with Peppi’s sons, Gene and Stefan in the band now.

Here are “Tasty” and the autobiographical song “Back To My Music”.

AMERICAN IDOL – RESULTS

Diana Ross sang One of THE COUCH’S favorite songs… good thing the dress was glued to her or we might have had a Janet Jackson moment.

IF the Judges had spoken:
Randy: When I heard you were singing this, I was excited. You tried to work it out… but it was real pitchy dawg.
Pauler: Let me start by saying, you look beautiful tonight...but you need to make it...
Simon: PAULER, SHUT UP! It reminded me of a mother at a wedding getting up with the band after a few too many drinks...
RANDY & PAULER: NO, it wasn't THAT bad...

[couchdivider.gif]

America left in the bottom three:
Brandon Rogers – He deserved it…
Phil Stacey – Not a good choice America
Sanjaya Malakar – OH MY FINALLY

American Idol continues to have it’s behind the scenes troubles…

Magdaleno Olmos sued American Idol Productions, Fox and season-four contestant Mario Vazquez for wrongful termination Friday, alleging that Olmos was fired after complaining to various higher-ups that Vazquez had sexually harassed him by making unwanted advances, flashing his genitals and engaging in other inappropriate behavior.

SHEESH!

[couchdivider.gif]

When is the government going to give up the fight?????

SAN FRANCISCO - A woman whose doctor says marijuana is the only medicine keeping her alive can face federal prosecution on drug charges, a federal appeals court ruled Wednesday.

The ruling was the latest legal defeat for Angel Raich, a mother of two from Oakland suffering from scoliosis, a brain tumor, chronic nausea and other ailments who sued the federal government pre-emptively to avoid being arrested for using the drug.

On her doctor's advice, Raich eats or smokes marijuana every couple of hours to ease her pain and bolster her appetite.

Incredible that millions of dollars are still being spent to try and stop pot from being used. Either legalize it and regulate and tax like liquor, or allow citizens to grow up to a certain amount on their own each year. Selling it can still be a crime, so that anything grown is for personal use.

Let’s use this money we are burning on the interdiction and prosecution on more important things like education or stopping the spread of other drugs that do much more harm - like Methamphetamine perhaps???

Oh and the thought that it leads to harder substances is hooey…sure people who use harder substances might have used marijuana, but that does not mean the marijuana caused them to move up the ladder.

What are your thoughts on this??????
